Garlic Soy Mushrooms

It’s a topping! It’s a side dish! It’s… it’s… Garlic Soy Mushrooms, the most versatile & savory little recipe you can imagine.

Here’s a super simple recipe that I make all the time, but haven’t ever written up: Garlic Soy Mushrooms work equally well as an easy side dish, a savory topping for steak or chicken, as a topper for avocado toast, and so much more!

I enjoyed mine the other day in this different take on avocado toast, where the salty, savory, slightly chewy shrooms provided a terrifically tasty counterpoint to creamy avocado and crunchy sourdough.

I mean: Talk about your salty, garlicky, umami flavor! Garlic and soy sauce play nicely together together to make everything that much more delicious — you can check out these easy garlic green beans with soy sauce for another case in point (or green veggie alternative).

Garlic Soy Mushrooms

garlic soy mushrooms ingredients

Ingredients

1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp olive oil
8 oz mushrooms, sliced somewhat thickly
2 tsp minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
2 tsp soy sauce

Directions

Wash or wipe mushrooms clean, then slice them.

Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until butter is just melted, then swirl to coat the pan. Stir in the mushrooms and saute for three minutes, undisturbed.

Stir in the garlic and continue to saute over medium heat for three more minutes or until mushrooms are golden brown, stirring occasionally.

Stir in the soy sauce and saute for another minute or so, or until mushrooms are nicely glazed and most of the liquid has evaporated.

Serve: As a side dish, as a topping for steak, on avocado toast as shown here, as a topping in a baked potato bar, on grilled chicken…

Note: This recipe makes two servings, but easily doubles to serve four — or, if you just want extras… 😉
