Last updated: April 26, 2022

Mashup Mom is a personal blog found at https://www.mashupmom.com/ and written by Rachel Singer (formerly Rachel Singer Gordon) ([email protected]). Mashup Mom is governed by the following privacy policy, which outlines what personally identifiable information we may collect and how that information may be used. This policy applies only to this website, where we are committed to preserving your privacy.

Mashup Mom may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. This policy was last updated, and is effective from, 4/26/22.

What information do we collect?

We may collect personal contact information such as your name or email address. For instance, you may voluntarily submit information to this site through actions such as subscribing to an email newsletter or commenting on a post, or you may create an account on the site.

We may receive information about you from other sources to whom you have provided personal information, for instance, if a social media profile such as Facebook, Instagram, or Google account is linked to your user profile.

Automatically collected information

Some information about you and the device(s) you use to access the Internet is automatically collected when you visit this site. This includes your partial IP address (showing country of origin), operating system, browser type, device type, the pages you view on this site, links you click on this site, and the date(s) and time(s) you visit this site. Google Analytics data collected from this site is anonymized.

Email newsletters

When you choose to opt in to receive email newsletters from Mashup Mom, these newsletters may contain tracking pixels. Tracking pixels are embedded in these emails for the purposes of tracking the success of marketing campaigns. These may allow use to see if and when you open a particular email message and which links you click inside that message, as well as to adapt future newsletters to user preferences. This behavior will not be passed on to third parties.

Cookies and advertising

We may log information about you and the device(s) you use to access the Internet using cookies, which are small files stores in your browser. This may include both session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stay in your browser until manually deleted), and which help provide a more personalized experience.  This site uses cookies to store visitors’ preferences, record user-specific information on what pages users access or visit, ensure that visitors are not repeatedly sent the same banner ads, and customize content based on browser type or other information. Cookies may also be used by third-party services, as described below.

Mashup Mom also displays third party advertising. As on any site that displays ads, third parties may place and read cookies on your web browser, or use web beacons to collect information through display ads served on this site. In doing so, these vendors may collect non-personal data such as your browser type, your operating system, Web pages visited, time of visits, content viewed, ads viewed, and other data. The use of cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies by these advertising service vendors is subject to their own privacy policies; we do not have control over cookies placed by advertisers.

From time to time, we may use anonymous data, which does not identify you alone, or when combined with data from other parties. This type of anonymous data may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses. Examples of this anonymous data may include analytics or information collected from cookies.

From time to time, this site may also engage in remarketing campaigns with third party sites such as Google or Facebook in order to market Mashup Mom. Those companies also use cookies to serve ads based on past visits.

Mashup Mom also contains affiliate links to sites such as Amazon and other online companies. Affiliate links work by embedding tracking links into this site. If you click on one of these links, a cookie will be placed in your browser which tracks sales for the purpose of tracking payable commissions.

Users may, at any time, prevent the setting of cookies in their web browser settings or delete already set cookies via their Internet browser or other software programs. However, if you deactivate the setting of cookies in your Internet browser, not all functions of our website may be entirely usable.

How might this information be used?

We may use the information we collect to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • To operate and maintain the site
  • To create your account
  • To allow you to comment on the site with an account you create
  • To send you opt-in newsletters and emails (each of which includes unsubscribe information at the bottom)
  • To send administrative communications to the email address you provide
  • To respond to your comments and inquiries and otherwise provide support
  • To track and measure advertising on the site
  • To protect against, potentially investigate, and deter unauthorized and/or illegal activity

How might third parties use your information?

We may share your information with third parties when you have specifically authorized such use, such as if you win a giveaway on the site and the sponsoring organization requires your information to send a prize.

In addition, Mashup Mom uses third party service providers which may collect certain information. These services include:

  • Google Analytics. This is a service that tracks website usage. Analytics for this site are anonymized.
  • Mad Mimi. This is an email service provider through which we send out double-opt-in newsletters and other emails using the name and email address you have provided for this purchase.

How else might your information be shared?

Except where required by law, Mashup Mom does not sell, give out, or reveal the personal information of site visitors, with the exception of providing address and other contact information for giveaway winners to the sponsoring organization. Mashup Mom does not rent out or otherwise share the email addresses of subscribers, with the exception that these are stored in a database at our email newsletter service provider.

If at some point Mashup Mom is purchased by or merges with another organization or third party, we may disclose or transfer the personal information we hold on users of the site.

Please note that any personal information you yourself provide in comments on the blog, Facebook page, twitter account, or elsewhere on social media, however, is visible to anyone who visits; you are responsible for the information you put out publicly on the internet, here or elsewhere. Once you have used these links to leave our site, we do not have any control over that other website and cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such sites.

Disclosure and affiliate program participation

Mashup Mom contains both advertising and affiliate links. My policy on posting affiliate links is to keep all content relevant to YOU and to the focus of this blog. Giveaway posts, sponsored posts, and reviews always disclose if I received a product or anything else from the sponsoring entity.

Opinions in reviews, giveaways, and every other post are 100% mine. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider.

When site visitors click on an affiliate link and make a purchase or other action, Mashup Mom may receive a small compensation. Affiliate links work by embedding tracking links into this site. If you click on one of these links, a cookie will be placed in your browser which tracks sales for the purpose of tracking payable commissions.

Mashup Mom is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. This site does not specifically target potential customers who are Illinois residents.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.0)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at https://www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
