Taco Naan Pizza — Make your own naan taco pizza bar!

Taco Tuesday, Pizza Friday, or any day of the week — just how fun is your own Taco Naan Pizza Bar! This easy weeknight dinner idea can be on your table in just 30 minutes.

OK… so you probably know how sometimes it’s hard to decide whether to have tacos or pizza for dinner. I say: Why should you be forced to choose! Taco Naan Pizza, to the rescue.

What prompted these lovely naan taco pizzas today? Well, I had half a jar of yummy organic black bean dip left over from making a batch of chicken nachos a while back, see, and then I also had this pack of naan looking at me, see… If you don’t have black bean dip on hand, though, refried beans will do just as nicely.

Here you just cook up your easy-peasy naan pizzas using a pack of naan, some refried beans (or black bean dip), seasoned taco meat, and shredded cheese. Then, set out a simple buffet of taco toppings so that everyone can customize their individual taco pizzas to their own personal tastes.

Speaking of personal tastes: Want to make your taco pizzas chicken-y instead of beef-y? Go for it. Want to make them vegetarian? Season up some black beans and use them instead of the meat (making sure, though, that if you use refried beans for the “sauce” that they do not contain lard).

Taco naan pizzas are infinitely customizable to your own family’s tastes and dietary preferences; make your own naan taco pizza bar!

Ingredients

4 pieces of plain naan (or 8 pcs mini naan)
1 can refried beans (or about half a jar of black bean dip)
1 lb ground beef
1/4 medium yellow onion, diced
1 packet taco seasoning mix or equivalent homemade taco seasoning
2 cups (8 oz) shredded cheddar or cheddar-jack

Taco bar toppings of choice, such as: Sour cream, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, black olives, green onions, cilantro, chopped avocado, salsa…

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place naan on two rimmed baking sheets and pre-brown at 400 degrees for three minutes, then remove baking sheets from the oven.

Meanwhile, brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as you go, until meat is browned and cooked through. Drain beef, then stir in the taco seasoning and saute over medium heat for another minute or until nicely incorporated (omit the water that’s called for on the package, to avoid a soggy pizza).

If using refried beans, place them in a small bowl and microwave for about a minute, until spreadable. (If using a thinner black bean dip, you can skip the microwaving step.) Spread each piece of naan with refried beans or black bean dip to taste, then top each with an equal amount of the seasoned ground beef.

Top each taco pizza with shredded cheese and bake for 12-13 minutes (switching oven racks halfway through), or until cheese is nicely melted and beginning to brown.

Remove taco naan pizzas from the oven and add your favorite taco toppings.

Note: For the shredded lettuce shown here I just chopped up part of a bag of garden salad, which got me a little of the pretty purple cabbage, too. Find an easy homemade taco seasoning recipe here, and adjust the spice level to your own family’s taste.

It’s a taco… it’s a pizza… It’s… It’s… Taco Naan Pizza!
