So are you thinking ahead to the holidays yet? Check out this new Battroborg Warrior Battle Arena Set, now available at Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target with an MSRP of $69.99. Here, you operate battling robots with wireless controllers and try to knock each other down inside the included arena.

We tested out the Samurai vs Ninja battle arena set, and these wireless motion control battling robots came with a battle arena, two warrior robots with interchangeable snap-on weapons and armor, and two single handed "katana controllers." Each controller takes four AA batteries to operate (not included), and you recharge the robots for about 20 minutes of game play by plugging the controllers into their backs. I really do wish that the set came with rechargeable batteries instead -- since the robots and the controllers run off the same set of batteries, you're going to be burning through eight AA batteries pretty fast if this is a hit with your kids.

The Battroborg Warrior Battle Arena Set is recommended for ages 6+, so Mr. 7 and Junior High Guy put it to the test. While they had a blast, I'd say that the set would be best for the 6-9 age range, as Junior High Guy grew jaded more quickly, while Mr. 7 had to play with it again by himself as soon as he woke up this morning.

Then again, MashupDad had himself a good old time too, once they finally let him get his hands on one of the controllers...

The set as a whole was highly entertaining, although the robots are fairly hard to control with any accuracy and tend to walk themselves into the side of the arena and get stuck. Mr. 7 cares not, as he practices his own ninja moves and is already plotting which friend to invite over to check it out with him, but Junior High Guy got a bit frustrated after a while. There are, however, special and more accurate moves controlled by a power move button + specific motions, with instructions on the Battroborg site to check out -- I'll show Mr. 7 once the initial jump in and get going (without reading directions) excitement wears off.
