Truvia — A giveaway and a contest!

This post is sponsored by Truvia. I received Truvia samples for the purposes of review; however, all opinions in this post are my own.

truvia1

MashupDad is very excited about these Truvia blends that bake and brown like sugar in recipes, since they’re both low calorie and lower in carbs. What’s are they made out of? Truvia brown sugar blend contains erythritol, sugar, molasses, and Stevia leaf extract; Truvia baking blend omits the molasses.

Check out these brown sugar blondies made with Truvia to see how it bakes up. (The entire recipe can be found under the YouTube video if you click through to watch on the YouTube site itself.) And if you like those, you can view more YouTube Truvia recipes for Brown Butter Cookies, Banana Nut Muffins, and Apple Pie Crumb Bars.

truvia2

Truvia Baking Blends come in both brown sugar and sugar varieties so that you can use them in all your own favorite baking recipes. (Note that Truvia does contain sugar alcohols (erythritol), so be aware if you’re sensitive to those.)

Try your own hand at Truvia for your chance to win

To celebrate the launch of the new Truvia Brown Sugar Blend, you have the chance to share your own baking talents in the Truvia Baking Star contest! Giveaway — TeenyMates NFL Collector Tin

This giveaway is sponsored by TeenyMates. I received a product for purposes of review; however, all opinions in this post are my own.

teeny-mates-tin

TeenyMates recently introduced a new NFL Collector Tin, including 4 packs of NFL Series 3 TeenyMates, storage tin, stadium display, and rare glow-in-the-dark figure. Mr. 7 was initially somewhat skeptical, but after opening the tin and finding all the teeny-tiny stuff inside, became an instant convert. I have a feeling I’d better check his pockets before doing the wash…

now-in-order

You can place the cute little TeenyMates from the blind packs in order on the stadium — each spot has a team name, and then you can pick up additional foil packs (currently available exclusively at Target stores) to try to collect them all. Each pack also included two puzzle pieces, which you again need to collect in order to finish the entire puzzle.

organized

Mr. 7 was quite pleased with his own organizational efforts here, and sounding out the team names to place each figure in the right place was good reading practice, lol.

Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words Level 3 review — and giveaway!

Prizing and information for this giveaway have been provided by Rock ‘N Learn. I received a DVD for purposes of review; however, all opinions in this post are my own.

rock-n-learn-sight-words

I’ve actually been familiar with the Rock ‘N Learn brand for years, because when Junior High Guy was much younger, he loved some of their live action math and Spanish DVDs and would sing along with an enthusiasm that would probably embarrass him now. So when we had the opportunity to check out one of the newer Rock ‘N Learn DVDs with Mr. 7, I thought this would be a great chance to see how things have changed over the years and if they were as catchy as I remembered.

checking-out-rock-n-learn

Here’s Mr. 7 opening up Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words Level 3, which targets grades 1 and up and covers all first grade Dolch sight words plus some of Fry’s. (And yes, he’s in PJs — how else do you watch DVDs?!)

stop-when-i-would-come-back

Unlike the earlier Rock ‘Learn DVDs I remembered, this one was entirely animated, and you can check out a clip on YouTube here. We had to look up the gray guy here online to confirm he was an armadillo — Festus by name, apparently.

waching-rock-n-learn

Still catchy! Catchy enough to hold Mr. 7’s attention through the whole thing — and yes, there was some dancing involved. Each sight word is presented individually, then as part of a song with a bouncing dot to help kids follow along with the words. It’s always good to see videos that are both attention grabbing and educational, and Rock ‘N Learn has quite a few to choose from.

Battroborg Warrior Battle Arena Set Review & Giveaway (9/20)

This giveaway is sponsored by Battroborg. I received this product for purposes of review; however, all opinions here are my own.

battroborg-warrior-battle-arena-set

So are you thinking ahead to the holidays yet? Check out this new Battroborg Warrior Battle Arena Set, now available at Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target with an MSRP of $69.99. Here, you operate battling robots with wireless controllers and try to knock each other down inside the included arena.

battroborg-parts

We tested out the Samurai vs Ninja battle arena set, and these wireless motion control battling robots came with a battle arena, two warrior robots with interchangeable snap-on weapons and armor, and two single handed “katana controllers.” Each controller takes four AA batteries to operate (not included), and you recharge the robots for about 20 minutes of game play by plugging the controllers into their backs. I really do wish that the set came with rechargeable batteries instead — since the robots and the controllers run off the same set of batteries, you’re going to be burning through eight AA batteries pretty fast if this is a hit with your kids.

The Battroborg Warrior Battle Arena Set is recommended for ages 6+, so Mr. 7 and Junior High Guy put it to the test. While they had a blast, I’d say that the set would be best for the 6-9 age range, as Junior High Guy grew jaded more quickly, while Mr. 7 had to play with it again by himself as soon as he woke up this morning.

Then again, MashupDad had himself a good old time too, once they finally let him get his hands on one of the controllers…

knocked-over-the-battroborg

The set as a whole was highly entertaining, although the robots are fairly hard to control with any accuracy and tend to walk themselves into the side of the arena and get stuck. Mr. 7 cares not, as he practices his own ninja moves and is already plotting which friend to invite over to check it out with him, but Junior High Guy got a bit frustrated after a while. There are, however, special and more accurate moves controlled by a power move button + specific motions, with instructions on the Battroborg site to check out — I’ll show Mr. 7 once the initial jump in and get going (without reading directions) excitement wears off.

Target Weddings — Unexpected Adventures + a $25 gift card giveaway

Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Target. All opinions are my own.

Today let’s talk about the Target Wedding Registry, memorable experiences, and unexpected finds. The registry was a lot of fun to browse, since MashupDad and I have been married for 17 years now — so it’s really been a while since I’ve taken a good look at a wedding registry. There’s lots of neat new stuff out there! For instance, I never would have thought to include a Canon EOS Rebel T5i on ours (not that they even existed 17 years ago…) but how cool to be able take your own high quality honeymoon photos and more.

jellyfish4

Our own most memorable trip recently was to Monterey California to attend my brother’s wedding. It’s so gorgeous out there, and we need an excuse to see far flung family every once in a while. I’m glad I had my phone along to document the whole experience — and I took this jellyfish photo at the Monterey Bay Aquarium just with my phone, but if they’re that impressive with a phone camera, how lovely would Canon Rebel photos have been? The neatest experience there was a little penguin who kept coming right up to the window and following the kids’ every movement with his bobbling head. That, I didn’t get a usable photo of since the penguin moved too fast and the glass was too water streaked, so probably another argument for a real camera.

board-games

One of the things I’ve learned over 17 years of marriage, though, is that you don’t have to travel far from home to build memorable experiences, and that the most important are those you create with family and friends. So when picking products from the Target Wedding registry, I stuck a little closer to home. How fun is it, for instance, that board games are a suggested registry option? This both gives people a lower cost gift alternative, and starts you off with the basis for game nights with friends — and, later on, family!

wine-glasses

Of course, you might want some wine glasses, too, both for use on game nights and for entertaining in general. (These are a nice size, I’m kind of eying them myself, registry or no registry…) Have a summer game night out on the patio, sip some wine, and enjoy the experience.

canon-t5i

And yes, you might also want to included that Canon EOS Rebel T5i to document all these experiences and get togethers — plus, it’s a wedding registry, so it’s fun to put wishes on there too! :)

EcoTools Konjac Facial Sponge Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is sponsored by EcoTools. I received Konjac Facial Sponge products for the purpose of review; however, all opinions here are my own.

konjac-box

I recently had the opportunity to try out EcoTools Konjac Pure Complexion Facial sponges, which come in both deep cleansing and sensitive skin versions. These are handmade with 100% natural ingredients including Konjac vegetable fiber, “a highly renewable root plant indigenous to Asia. It’s traditionally used as a detoxifying dietary staple and as a naturally exfoliating sponge for delicate skin by the Japanese.” Check out the glowing reviews on the EcoTools site, then read on for mine!

softens-in-water

Out of the box, both varieties of EcoTools sponges were hard and unyielding and you wonder how they’d ever make a useful facial sponge. Once you run them under water, though, they become perfectly squishy, and just the right texture for facial cleansing. After use, just rinse with water and leave them out to dry naturally and they harden right back up again.

how-to-use

You can use the sponge with or without cleanser, which is kind of neat! I was a little apprehensive about the deep cleaning version, thinking it would be rough and scratchy on my face. Although it wasn’t as soft as the sponge for sensitive skin, it was still gentle and left my skin softer and smoother rather than reddened like some exfoliating products tend to do. My face also feels very clean after using — and it even felt cleaner when I tried the sponge with just water, no cleanser.

using-sponge-2

(OK, you try to take a selfie while cleansing your face with a sponge! lol) — but you can see that the facial sponge is a nice size to hold, and also a handy shape to get around your chin and nose. One sponge should last you 1-3 months depending no how often you use it and how well you let it dry out, so is really fairly affordable, especially for an all-natural product.

It’s some KIND of Giveaway (yes it is…) + Kind Bars Review

This giveaway is sponsored by KIND. I received products for the purpose of review; however, all opinions here are my own.

kind-bars

Have you guys seen all these newer and different flavors of bars from KIND? They now have over 22 varieties: So fun, and some combinations you don’t generally see in snack bars, so you can break up your routine! They sent over a sample pack with some more unusual flavor combinations, including Thai Sweet Chili, Honey Mustard, Caramel Almond & Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate Mocha Almond, and Hickory Smoked.

boys-eating-kind-bars

All the boys in this house were eager to help out with the product testing, no surprise there! KIND bars are gluten free and non GMO, so Junior High guy was able to partake in Thai Sweet Chili — one of the new all natural STRONG & Kind flavors that packs 10g of protein, with no whey or soy. Thumbs up from him on the flavor, which he pronounced “kind of spicy, but not too bad.” He also ate it in about 30 seconds, so I think “not too bad” is middle school speak for “more of that, please!” This flavor also contains no dairy ingredients, but some KIND bars do, so check nutrition information if you need to avoid dairy like Junior High Guy does.

Mr. 7 here is enjoying Dark Chocolate Mocha Almond, mostly because he hears “mocha” and thinks he’s being a grown-up and getting coffee. ;) I thought those were pretty good too, but my favorite was the same as MashupDad’s…

mashupdad-eats-kind-bar

… Caramel Almond & Sea Salt. Seriously, are all men such a goof when you say you’re going to take their picture? ANYway, he was pleased with this particular flavor because it has 8 net grams of carbs — and all the bars I received are low glycemic.

caramel-sea-salt-kind-bar

But seriously: Yum. Look at all those whole almonds! and caramel! These are crunchy, sweet, and salty for the perfect flavor combo, and I highly recommend them. They also pack a good amount of protein to help fill you up longer.

eating-kind-bar-3

But beyond Almond Sea Salt & Caramel, I really do recommend KIND bars in general. They’re filling, they’re tasty, they’re all natural, and, well… I KIND of like the name. I usually don’t eat a lot of store-bought bars because I don’t care for the artificial flavors or aftertaste, and you just don’t get that with KIND: You get almonds, you get chocolate, you get caramel, you get pumpkin seeds and honey.

Tropical Traditions organic raw honey review and giveaway!

This giveaway is sponsored by Tropical Traditions. Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

tropical-traditions-organic-raw-canadian-honey

Welcome to a great new giveaway sponsored by Tropical Traditions! Read on to find out how to enter to win some of this delicious Tropical Traditions Organic Raw Honey. This Canadian honey is 100% organic, raw, wild, and unprocessed — and just look how thick it is. Most honey cannot be certified organic, because bees range out for miles from their hives. Certified organic honey has to come from hives in isolated areas, so this honey is from the remote frontier regions of Canada.

tea2

We’ve already found a lot of uses for Tropical Traditions Organic Raw Honey. MashupDad was recently down with a summer cold, for instance, and made an exception to his low carb rule by adding Tropical Traditions Raw organic honey to his evening tea. He’s been raving about the quality ever since!

avocado-pudding-with-tropical-traditions-honey

And, I used Tropical Traditions Organic Raw Honey when making Dairy Free Chocolate Avocado Pudding earlier this week. So far it’s been lovely in tea, on its own, or as a natural sweetener for recipes. I’m going to try substituting this for sugar in other recipes, too, since it added a fantastic flavor.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Tropical Traditions Organic Raw Honey is unprocessed, unheated, and unfiltered, resulting in a thick, creamy honey that contains pollen and fine textured crystals very unlike the processed honeys you might be used to. The difference, however, is all good: Try organic raw honey, and you’re unlikely to go back.
