This giveaway and post has been sponsored by Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market. I was compensated for this post; however, all opinions here are my own.

This looks like such a fun and fresh new store launching in the Chicago area! Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market (scroll down to sign up for weekly emailed ads, coupons, and deals) will be holding their grand opening celebration on April 23 at their brand-new Mount Prospect location at 211 W. Rand Rd. The store opens at 7:00 AM on 4/23.

The grand opening event will feature food samplings and giveaways including a grocery bag giveaway to the first 200 customers on grand opening day. The celebration will continue throughout the week with events for kids including face painting, balloon animals, and performances by Miss Jamie from the Farm.

Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market believes you “shouldn’t have to give away the farm” to eat nutritious food. They focus on fresh, healthy, natural, and organic products, including an extensive produce section featuring organic and local produce, a natural meats section, locally roasted organic coffee beans, Earth-friendly cleaning supplies, and more. Following the Mount Prospect grand opening this week, they’ll also be opening five more Chicago area locations through 2015 in Deerfield, Fairview Heights, Downers Grove, Naperville, and Joliet, plus many more stores throughout the Midwest. I’m looking forward to seeing the new store and how their prices stack up — the prospect of affordable local and organic foods sounds fantastic.

Giveaway — Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas (4/22)

This giveaway has been sponsored by Saffron Road. I received Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas for review; however, all opinions here are my own.

saffron-road-crunchy-chickpeas

I’ve been a fan of Saffron Road since picking up their delicious broth at Whole Foods a while back, so was excited to try their new globally-inspired Crunchy Chickpeas flavors. They sent over samples of the new Korean BBQ and Chipotle flavors, both of which are non-GMO project verified, made with organic chickpeas, and certified gluten free. (The entire line of chickpea snacks is gluten free and made with organic chickpeas, and other flavors include Wasabi, Falafel and Bombay Spice.) All Saffron Road products are made with all natural products and are Halal certified.

saffron-road-chickpeas

These were a great little protein packed crunchy snack! And, the flavor variety worked out perfectly in our house: Mr. 7 thought the Chipotle were a bit too spicy, but went nuts for the sweeter and slightly spicy Korean BBQ — while Junior High Guy opined that the Chipotle had just enough of a kick, and polished his off without even asking for water.

saffronsnacks

Both varieties are nicely crunchy and packed with flavor. I also liked that they’re a healthier snack option, with good amounts of both protein and fiber to help give energy and keep you full.

Giveaway — All natural Pomi tomatoes (4/8)

This giveaway has been sponsored by Pomi. I received products to review for purposes of this post; however, all opinions here are my own.

pomi-tomatoes

I have a tasty giveaway for you guys today, sponsored by all natural Pomi Boxed Tomatoes from Italy. These are processed from fresh Italian tomatoes shortly after harvesting, and Pomi tomatoes are non-GMO and have no preservatives or added ingredients. Since they’re boxed rather than canned, they are also BPA-free — plus, the aseptic packaging is recyclable.

in-the-box-2

Now, I really should have read the directions on their site about how to open the box neatly before ripping on in… But I persevered nonetheless, and eventually popped open this lovely box of chopped tomatoes they sent over for review. These smelled great right out of the box, but were much more saucy than pictured.

spice-it-up

I used about half the box to make Pomi Portobello Pizzas, using this basic recipe from last summer. Rather than using out of season fresh cherry tomatoes, however, I simply spiced up half a box of Pomi chopped tomatoes to make a nice chunky and flavorful sauce to fill each portobello cap, mixing them together with 1 tsp basil, 1/2 tsp oregano, 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper, and 1 tsp minced garlic.

pomi-portobello-pizzas

After marinating the portobellos for about half an hour in some minced garlic, oregano, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and a little sea salt and black pepper, I filled each cap with the spiced up Pomi chopped tomatoes. I then topped each with mozzarella (some also got a little pepperoni and/or fresh spinach) and baked them on a foil-lined cookie sheet for 25 minutes at 400 degrees.

four-portobello-pizzas

Pomi Portobello Pizzas were so good! I’m glad we still have the other half of the box, because I’m making these again this week. :) Once you’ve opened your Pomi tomatoes, you can transfer any leftovers to another container and refrigerate up to ten days.

Want to try Pomi?

Check the store locator on their site. In Chicagoland, you should be able to find Pomi tomatoes at both Meijer and Jewel. (I am pretty sure I have also seen them at Whole Foods!) Also, give a go at the giveaway below, since one lucky Mashup Mom reader will win both chopped Pomi tomatoes and strained Pomi tomatoes for themselves. (Psst — make Pomi Portobello Pizza!)

Giveaway — Tropical Traditions Organic Coconut Flour (2/26)

This giveaway is sponsored by Tropical Traditions. Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have a great new giveaway for you guys today, sponsored by Tropical Traditions! You might remember that we recently talked about their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. Well, today we’re moving on to another part of the nut and talking Tropical Traditions Organic Coconut Flour.

coconutflour2

Tropical Traditions sent over a sample of their Organic Coconut Flour for review. I’d never before cooked with coconut flour, and on first glance? This resembles nothing as much as Moon Sand in appearance and texture, lol. But the smell and taste? All coconut, all the time. I will say that I wish this came in a resealable bag — it was messy to open, and then I had to find a storage solution. But that minor quibble aside, what did I make with it right off the bat…

paleoglutenfreeporkchopsheader

Why, Paleo Pork Chops, of course! And you can read the full step-by-step recipe over on Sunday Scratchups. These were super easy to make, and a huge hit with both Junior High Guy and low carb MashupDad. We’re not Paleo here, but I do have one wheat free guy and one low carb guy, and some of the Paleo principles translate well to gluten free diets and low net carbs. Plus, I was curious to see how the earlier Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil worked together with the coconut flour, since it’s fun to scratch new things up in different combinations.

coconutflournutrition

The other thing that I do wish is that the nutrition information were in a more usable format. 3.5 oz is not a measure I’m normally going to use in baking or cooking, so I’d prefer to see that in something like tablespoons, which you could more easily convert. But again, that’s a minor quibble, and it is definitely low net carbs — especially when I ended up using only 1/4 cup for 11 chops (with some left over in the bottom of the bowl, even).

CD One Price Cleaners — Review and Giveaway (2/17)

This review and giveaway is sponsored by CD One Price Cleaners. I received a gift card for purposes of review, but all opinions in this post are my own.

cdoneprice

So, we’ve driven by this CD One Price Cleaners a million times but never gone in. I work from home, so don’t have a lot of need for dry cleaning or laundering, lol. (Yeah, sometimes I even wear yoga pants… on days I don’t even have yoga! shhh) MashupDad, however, is somewhat fancier in his work requirements than I, so duly took a batch of his clothes over to our local CD One Price Cleaners earlier this week. We visited the Lombard location, but they have 30 Chicago area stores to choose from.

snacks2

Now, MashupDad was of course most impressed with the free lollipops and coffee at CD One Price Cleaners (and check out the hanger recycling — brilliant!).

readyalerts

Me, I’m impressed that you can sign up for alerts and get an email when your dry cleaning is ready, because nothing’s more annoying than a wasted trip. Plus: Drop off before 10 AM, and you can pick up after 5 PM that same day. Super handy when you have an occasion coming up and realize last minute that you need to have something cleaned.

bag

And, they even gave him this handy bag to bring in his cleaning next time — which should be more useful than the “crumpled heap of clothes on top of the dresser” method he’s employed in the past. ;)

outside

I’m also pleased with the “per item” pricing. I’ve never understood why women’s clothes tend to cost more at the cleaners, but at CD One Price Cleaners, they live up to their name. Current pricing: Any dry cleaned garment is just $2.79 (doesn’t matter if it is a women’s silk shirt or a men’s winter coat), and each laundered shirt is just $1.49. I do wish that they were open on Sundays, since that is a typical errand day here, but they’re open early enough on weekdays that it is not a problem to drop off before work.
