Turkey pot roast, brought to you by the letters Jennie and O
I received a Jennie-O turkey post roast for purposes of review. All opinions here, however, are my own
So a couple of months ago, I made a toss-off comment in a Dominick's deals post about "what the heck is turkey pot roast?"
Well, now I know! Look what showed up on my doorstep this morning, courtesy of the nice folks at Jennie-O, who read my post and wanted to spread the word. 🙂
This was fortuitous, because I didn't have dinner plans for the evening yet. So, I opened one up...
And I cooked it... and I pulled out the bone per package directions...
And I shredded it...
And we ate it! Easy-peasy. You can oven cook or microwave this. I opted for the oven method -- it's pre-cooked, so only takes an hour -- and it shredded easily and made the house smell like Thanksgiving.
Yes, but how did it taste?
This is dark meat, which isn't Mr. Mashup Mom's favorite. He pronounced it: "OK, I'd eat it again." The boys pronounced it: YUMMY. I pronounced it: Pretty darn good. They have a nice recipe on the back for making turkey tortilla soup with the leftovers, which I may try if there are enough left. (Or just eat it for lunch tomorrow. Decisions, decisions.)

interesting. Never heard of it before and its not what I thought it would be. From the bone picture it looks like it might basically a big ol' turkey leg. weird. I'd try it if I could get a SUPER deal on it, but at that normal price - not a chance.
Saw this post earlier. This afternoon I made a trip to the St. Charles Dom to get some of the mini cream cheeses (they had none) and as soon as I walked in the door...BAM...big sign Turkey Pot Roast....freaky!
I've NEVER heard of such a thing as Turkey Pot Roast! I think Jennie-O should have you do a giveaway so we can try it too :)!
Well, I live in CA, and turkey pot-roast in carried at Stater Bros. It's 7.99 for the package that is shown in Rachel's pics. And I think it is YUMMY! I've been an adict of Mimi's (restaurant chain) pot roast for about the last 10 years...but when I tried Jen-o's, I converted. I'm a TPR groupie. And 7.99 is MUCH cheaper than pot roast and eggs at Mimi's for 8.99 (even IF it IS delicious!)
I had a friend over for Christmas Eve dinner. Had the TPR, mashed taters, stuffin', cranberry sauce and sweet tater pie. Yummy! And enough left over to make "carnitas" burritos with next day. That's a bargain.
Wow, sorry to pop into a conversation that ended months ago.. :p But while googling "Jenni-O turkey pot roast" I found your awesome website!
I picked up one of the J/O turkey pot roast today @ Costco here in Anchorage. Since the boxes were identical to the photo on here, but since they varied in weight, they had them priced anywhere from 6-something to 9-something.
I haven't figured out how I'll use mine yet.. but I'm really glad that I stumbled in here! Very fun posts to read!

They have these with the roasted chickens already made at our grocery store. They sell for $5.99. Delicious.

I LOVE Jenny O's Turkey Pot roast. I did get it at Costco in Issaquah WA but now they no longer carry it. I'm trying to find it in the Seattle/Bellevue WA area. I think part of the confusion is the name pot roast. But, whatever, it's fabulous and I'm sick that I can no longer find it in my stores..

I found your conversation when trying to figure out exactly what it is that I bought and how to prepare (I was determined to find SOMETHING for dinner in there). I think I'll pop it in the oven at 350 for 1 hour and hope it turns out looking like yours. Thanks!

lol, Erinn, that is precisely how I found this blog (googling "turkey pot roast"). I think it is incredibly yummy. Stater Bros in CA cooks it and has it for 7.99. Fresh & Easy has it non-cooked (well, it's not raw, but you have to prep it) for around 10.00. I sort of like it non-prepped so I can use the drippings for gravy. Wish I had a Costco card so i could search for one there.
Just finished dinner. All 5 of us agree that it was good and that we would eat it again. Note: I added cut carrots and onions which were good.
Jennie-O has done it again. That great turkey ham and now the turkey POT ROAST...delicious!! Stores like Henry's, Sprouts, Vons, Albertsons, etc., seem very reluctant to carry it. They say it doesn't sell. Well, I know the reason for that...people don't understand what it is. One taste, and I guarantee future purchases. It's really great!
Ron- so true. When I saw it in Stater Bros. for the first time, I thought "what's this? Can't be good". But it smelled so wonderful (it is in their pre-cooked case, for $7.99....no, you don't get any 'gravy' this way, but you also miss out on the fat, as it drips off on their spit).
I tried it, and the rest is history....more stores should carry!
