Chickens in the snow…

chickens-in-the-snow

Yeah, I’d be huddled together under the bushes too… Unfortunately I’ve instead been running around all day in this mess. Welcome to spring in Chicago, everyone! 🙂

To chime in on fresh eggs - I'm in Indiana and they are reasonably easy to come by here, although still $4/dozen. I don't even hesitate on spending that. The taste, knowing where they come from and how they were raised is priceless! One tyson chicken video and it's tough to go back LOL

I'm still dying to try fresh eggs. I haven't run across an opportunity to buy them, so that's probably why. I think about your chickens every now and then, especially when you post "where to buy".

You can buy fresh eggs at most farmer's markets in the Chicago area. The first outdoor markets begin around May 1st. Fresh eggs at the farmer's markets usually cost $4-$5 a dozen, but they are way better than anything you find in the grocery store.

Here's a list of some Illinois farmers who sell fresh chicken eggs:

You must have more lenient codes in your town. Still, cool.

I've been running into a lot of people talking about buying live chicken, etc, for slaughter at the store. But I'm told that fresh tastes 'off', maybe game-y?, compared to the heavily-processed chickens we buy from big-name grocers.

Btw: do you use them for eggs or does your husband kill them?

We use them for eggs -- which are great, by the way. :)

Tell me these aren't chickens on your property (lol)

We've had chickens for a while now -- I posted about them a couple times a while back. :)
