Ulla Popken review and 20% coupon for you

This post is sponsored by Ulla Popken. I received apparel to review from Ulla Popken, but all opinions in this post are my own.

Ulla Popken carries apparel for women size 12 and up, and I recently had the chance to try out their Via Moda Knit Swing Tunic and the Ul-la-timate knit swing dress. These look somewhat different on the tall blond models on their site than they do on me (but things always do, don’t they, lol). So here’s how Ulla Popken clothes wear on a real non-model person!

This Ulla Popken knit dress was a nice length with tall boots, but ran just slightly large. As a shorter and more curvy person than the model, I did find that I needed a little more shape than this unstructured dress provided, so used a long scarf to belt it — which also helped break up the color — plus a long necklace. I do love the color, though, and am working on breaking out of my addiction to basic black, right?!

This very comfortable casual tank dress came with its own matching jacket, which was a good length for me. This would have made an easy work-appropriate outfit back in my librarian days.

OK, back to black — but with a lot of bright blue to pop out of that rut! I love the pattern on this tunic, which I paired with black jeggings and tall black boots. Again, this was a somewhat unstructured piece to which I added the belt, because on its own it hung a little too loosely for me.

Isn’t the blue paisley print fun? And with the black sleeves and jeggings, an easy way to incorporate some color while still not straying too far from basic black. Both the dress and the tunic were well-made, and a nice way to step up from the jeans and t-shirts rut while staying comfortable and semi-casual. Just be aware that their clothing seems to have a bit less structure, so you may need to add a belt or accessorize as I did here depending on your own body type.

First, the colors and styles are beautiful on you. My questions:

1. how tall are you? I'm 5'10' - and my fear is that the second outfit would be too short to use as a dress. (Most of the time, I have to pair pieces like that with jeans because I'm too old to pull off the leggings/boots look. LOL)

2. how did they look unbelted? Were they really too loose for you to wear comfortably - or was is simply a preference? (Many times, loose outfits are so loose that I trip over the dresses when I climb stairs. It's hard to tell from the photos if these would be that loose.)

3. finally, great jewelry choices! They really give the outfits a finished look.

Thanks, Nora! I'm only 5'3", so the blue one would be a lot shorter on you. It's pulled up with the belt but hits me a bit lower than mid-thigh without. They were both very loose, so since I'm top heavy they hung badly without being belted -- the models from the photos on their site are not, so they might drape better on people who are not.

Both outfits look great on you! I really like the pink one.

You look really cute in the blue outfit, but, that pink dress overwhelms you! Did you try belting the jacket too, and then maybe shorten the skirt about 10 inches? The color is certainly good on you, but, too much material on you in my opinion.

I think the pink is super cute and really like the leggings and boots. I admire the way you put yourself out there. I recognize the necklace from Amazon?

Yup, that's the owl necklace from Amazon that keeps popping up for cheap -- I was so curious a while back I had to get one. And thanks!

Didn't your mother/father/teachers tell you "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything!"? Well apparently not, so I'm telling you!
