Simply Ground peanut butter -- Not so simple

So I'll preface this by saying that this peanut butter is no worse than (with about the same ingredients as) the Jif I last bought, and I did know the ingredients before purchasing and bought it anyway. But... quick: When you hear Simply Ground peanut butter, what's your first assumption? A friend stopped by before I'd put away the pile of cheap Peter Pan Simply Ground peanut butter from Ultra Foods yesterday, and thought it was "that just peanuts natural stuff, right?" No, no it is not. Apparently the "simply ground" part refers to... the texture?
So, wondering: Just us, or did you also assume from the name that this was natural PB without sugar and/or hydrogenated oils?

Yes, I think the name is definitely misleading. I really thought it was a natural peanut butter. On the bright side, it makes me feel not quite so bad that the $1 coupons are no longer available (although for 79¢ I would have bought it too).
From the name, I thought it should be a healthier pb (less additives, etc.) but still knew that I would have to check the ingredients to be sure. I couldn't face buying 10 jars anyway, so am kind of relieved to not miss out. I'm always tempted to buy Nutella on a good sale, too, but the sugar content stops me.
I also was excited to think it was a natural pb.
I got it at Meijer a few weeks back for .29 cents/ jar (wyb 5.)
I did read the disappointing ingredients in the store, but bought anyway. Like my daughter said, you should make your own....lol
Keep track of your purchaes, I see a lawsuit happening, if one hasn't started already. It is misleading though.
I was thinking the same thing!
Just like our "organix", kettle chips, etc.
Could one take it as being ground in a simple way? that wouldn't mean that other things weren't added AFTER the peanuts were ground "simply".
I got the honey, slightly chunky? type at Kroger 2 weeks ago. It was regular priced at $2.50 but there was a digital coupon for $2 online, so I picked 1 up to try it. I didn't even see the regular kind like you bought but I noticed AFTER I got home that the coupon did not come off! They are usually pretty good about giving you back the cash when that happens but they scan thru all of your loaded coupons online using your card somehow and check to see if you actually bought the correct item. I have 150 coupons loaded, so that takes awhile! It was there for exactly the 15 oz. size listed so they gave me my $2 back. I looked in the store before I bought it and compared to the other PBs on the shelf mainly to see if you needed to stir it or refrigerate it though. I figured for 50c I'd get it. We eat a ton of PB here and I had just stocked up at Kroger on Jif and store brand, so I was not all that mad I forgot to print the good coupons for the Ultra sale. I have been making homemade granola bars (no bake) with the natural kind of PB lately but yes this is quite misleading to say the least!
I've been looking at the homemade granola bars recipes -- which one do you use and like? Ultra only had the regular kind and not the honey kind.

Here is the recipe I have been using. I soften the PB in the microwave so you can mix it. This time I used creamy PB by accident, so I added chopped walnuts. These are very rich, so adapt to your own tastes!
* I toast the oats and let them cool before I make these. If you use a glass pan, there is no need to grease or put down wax/parchment paper, they are easy to get out. Enjoy!
I have been making this recipe every other week for at least 3 years now and everyone gobbles them up. http://tammysrecipes.com/chewy_oatmeal_chocolate_chip_granola_bars
Thanks guys!
I normally read labels. I've been eating this stuff. But today while at Meijer, I read the label. Not buying this anymore. I don't like the ones you have to stir. Not sure what I'll buy next time.
I just found this wonderful peanut putter. The oils mentioned are very healthy one. Cottonseed and rapeseed. At least I think they are very sought after oils for other foods, too. I like this peanut butter and will be buying it at Wal-Mart cuz I can't find it anywhere else.
I cannot find it anymore and loved it!! I thought nothing of it being anything but "simply ground" a little crunchy and little creamy...That's why I LOVED IT!!!!! But sadly it's no where to be found!!
I thought the same thing that it was just a little crunchy and a little creamy and I also love it. I can still find it at Publix here in Jacksonville FL,
I literally bought it for the texture! lol No where on the label does it say "organic", "natural" or anything of the like, so I was not surprised. It actually states "Creamy with a bit of crunch". And with less than 2% of the vegetable oils I don't find it so horrible as peanut butters go?? Curious, to those of you who make your own stuff, what, besides the peanuts would you put into your peanut butter?
I am obsessed with this peanut butter. I found it at Big Lots in a 26 oz size for $2.00. I love it - bought several jars and now I can’t find it anywhere and I just ran out!
Its creamy meets crunchy perfection and I'm about out 🥺
I bought 32 jars online a while back because I couldn't find it at the stores anymore. Then I started seeing it at the stores again so I would buy 5 to 8 at a time. My kids and I put it in our oatmeal every morning. We are down to 8 jars left and I can't find it anywhere 🙁
Omg I'm in the same boat. They don't make it anymore and I usually buy 3 jars at once but I didn't know bc the small independent grocery store near me always had some but now I've bought all of it! Best. Peanut butter. Ever.
Are you sure they don’t,make it anymore! This is my favorite peanut butter ecer also. It doesn’t seem to ever get stale tasting. I googled it and it doesn’t say anything about it being discontinued. I may try ordering it from Amazon.
I'm sure. On Amazon you can only get it from a reseller and it's over $1 per ounce. I'm distraught age have tried several avenues. I'd gladly give someone $10 for a jar. I've made my husband and daughter stop eating Any of our last jar. It's mine
Its creamy meets crunchy perfection and I'm about out 🥺
It was recently discontinued. Here is how we bring it back. Contact the manufacturer, Con Agra at 1-877-CONAGRA or https://www.conagrabrands.com/contact-us. Select 'Product Feedback'. They do take consumer feedback under consideration to determine if bringing the product back is warranted. This was the BEST peanut butter ever. Let's see if we can't get it back!!!
