Caturday with the Notorious BKL and Friends: Jailhouse Rock Edition

Bad Kitty Lucy in Kitty Jail on Caturday -- watching you from the window

Welcome back to Caturday with the Notorious BKL and Friends: Jailhouse Rock edition. It’s been a while, so we’ll just do a little catch up on what they’ve been up to lately — especially the one who started it all, the Notorious BKL.

Bad Kitty Lucy has always been an indoor cat, but lately she’s developed an obsession with the outside. Open the door into the garage without looking? Whoosh, she’s out and hiding under the car. Go outside to do a little yard work? There she is, watching you accusingly from the window. Not a bird nor squirrel nor leaf passes unnoticed, as she stands unwavering guard by the back sliding glass door. I’m not sure what is behind this sudden interest, but maybe as a mature woman of four now, she’s having some sort of midlife cat crisis?

Now Jeremy, he just lurks on the stairs and peeks around the railing to watch for his chance to trip you up. What is it about cats, stairs, and running in front of you while you’re walking? No sense of self-preservation here, because who’s going to keep feeding them if I trip. 😉

Bad Kitty Lucy climbs the corporate ladder -- happy Caturday.

I actually had a heck of a time typing this up because BKL has been firmly ensconced on my lap the whole time — taking just a bit of a break from her patrolling duties. Maybe she got too cold today, or maybe it’s just exhausting… climbing the corporate ladder.

Although, to be fair… she has been very lap cat lately. You know. When she’s not busy ensuring the security of the perimeter.

Or, you know: The security of the stove. SMH.

So, how’s YOUR Caturweek (or cat-free week) going?

So, I’ll leave you with the usual question on this chilly Caturday: How’s your own Caturweek (or cat-free week) going? And.. be sure to tune in next time for the latest installment in the exciting ongoing Caturday adventures of the Notorious BKL and Friends.

Cats are so great. Thank goodness ours never got on the stovetop like BKL does! We used to have a gas stove at the old house.....and when she was young she'd get up there and even the windowsill to watch birds and could actually get on the fridge as well. She'd hop on couch, then up on counter since it was right behind on the peninsula and one Christmas I made choc. bark dipped pretzels and she stepped right in my pile that was drying!!! Didn't blink an eye on her way to stalk the birds! Here we have a Corian glass top electric stove and was always thankful she never tried to hop up and possibly get burned. Most cats won't jump blindly and since she couldn't see what was up there as she could from the couch/counter situation, never got burned. Once we let her outside to roam freely it was hard to get her to stay inside. If we ever get another cat....I will not make that mistake again. (they stay safer inside and generally live longer) Oh....your son has very nice hair. It is nice to see it grown out some. Hate to insult BKL but his hair is stealing the show in that picture on his lap! (Normally you don't even notice the human in pics lol)

Thanks! :) He spends a lot of time on the hair...

And I don't know what's with her and the stove lately, honestly. This is NEW.

I've always been amazed that people raise cats in the house for their entire life. I thought they were hunters, just like dogs. We always had dogs, and all but one loved to go outside and sniff around. The one dog thought she was human, except she did realize it was easier for her to do her business outside, but, immediately came back in the house. How do you get BKL back in the house when she escapes?

She's not as hard to catch as she thinks she is, lol. Just getting out the door seems to be excitement enough! Cats live a lot longer as indoor cats; we've always kept ours in.
