In case you missed the big news: ALDI is now accepting credit cards! You can use your Visa, Discover, MasterCard, or American Express card at all U.S. ALDI stores nationwide as of March 1, 2016.

March 1, 2016 – We heard you, ALDI fans! You’ve been asking about credit cards for a while now, and we’ve decided to finally make Simply Smarter Shopping… simpler. Starting today, you can swipe your way to savings. And don’t worry – we’re still dedicated to keeping your grocery cart full and your wallet even fuller. Our acceptance of credit cards will have no impact on the prices you pay for the ALDI products you love.

I paid with my Visa card at ALDI for the first time last week, and it almost felt naughty, lol. But what great news, especially for those of us who bank credit card rewards or don't like to carry cash. Options, it's good to have options!

What's even better than using your credit card at ALDI? Using a gift certificate at ALDI -- so read on for your chance to win. 🙂

  1. I think it's great. I have not used it yet. I am still used to using my debit and getting cash back. It's like my ATM....

    1. Yippee! Now I'll be able to shop more at Aldi. I never carry much cash; thus, I'll really be able to shop at Aldi going forward. My neighbor highly recommends their gluten free products. Thanks for the opportunity!

  2. I used my credit card in ALDI on 3/6 in a Chicago location (on Montrose and Western). They have a sign up saying taking credit card, and I have been following your blog so I knew it already (my husband felt strange as he did not know that!) BTW, this location would be closed for remodeling soon (forget the exact date), but I think it's around summer.

  3. I didn't use a credit card at ALDI. I prefer to use debit and get cash back as needed. I might use a credit card if my debit balance becomes zero.

  4. This is great. Use credit card for rewards and this is one of two places that make us pull out the debit or cash. Helps track the budget! Headed there soon and will have to try it. Next question, chip or no chip options?

  5. Never used to shop at Aldi because my bank card was credit, not debit. Now I have a reason to stop there. Have already tried it. Like having more options now for my shopping needs.

I'm truly happy that this is now an option because sometimes when I'm low on cash being able to use my Credit Card allows me to shop at Aldi's instead of going someplace else. Also, I love how now the Cashier's have to remember to include Credit in their spill as a payment option :).

  28. I've shopped at Aldi's but don't like to carry too much cash on me. So I don't go often. Most of the time I avoid it if I need to go and get cash just to shop there. I am really busy and prefer the convenience of the credit cards. I am also moving to an area where my closest grocery store will now be Aldi's. I hope to do a LOT more shopping there now. 🙂

  31. I like that Aldi's is now accepting credit cards. I think some people may have been put off by the fact they used to only accept cash or debit cards. I have not yet been to Aldi's since this started.

  38. ALDI will now get more of my grocery business now that they accept credit cards. I no longer have to count how much cash I have on hand before shopping at ALDI. I love the fact that credit cards are now accepted. I plan on using that payment option once I shop there again.

  41. Have not used my credit card yet, i do shop there every week.I think a credit cards offers more security than a debit.

  44. After all the security scares with other stores, I quit using my debit card at Aldi and started bringing just enough cash for the purchases I intended to make. This kept me from making impulse purchases so even though I am happy that they accept credit cards, I'm resisting the urge to use mine.

  49. I don't have a credit card, and I was there this week and used my debit. Was VERY happy when they started taking debit! I guess it is good, I am pretty anti-credit cards but to each his or her own! More ways to pay.

  52. I am so happy they finally accept Credit Cards. My bank charges me when I use my debit card, so I can only go shopping there when I have cash on hand, which is usually never. Or if I do have cash, I end up going over what I have. This makes it so much easier. I'll be going a lot more now because I don't have to plan it out ahead of time.

  61. I ran in there for a few things and ended up filing up my cart. I was a little panicked that I might not have enough cash. Then saw the sign they had up by the register that you could pay by credit card and was so relieved! Didn't have to be embarrassed and put things back! 🙂 It totally felt weird though! So used to having to pay cash there!

  64. I think it's great that they are accepting credit cards now. I haven't paid by that option yet. My purchases lately have been small dollar amounts, so I've paid with cash.

  66. I've used it twice and am so happy they now take the credit cards. There were times, especially when I saw the deals on the marked down items, that I had to put some items back b/c I only had a limited amount of cash on hand.

  79. I have not used my CC there yet but will soon. I think they were smart to start taking them because now people will spend more money on big ticket items (meat etc.) and last minute impulse buys. I know one of my friends never shops there BECAUSE they didn't take CC, now others like her will at least try the store out. They will get repeat business! This was a smart business move for Aldi.

  102. I used my credit card the other day at Aldi and it is GREAT! I do not have a debit card, so I always had to estimate how much cash I would need when i went there. Once I didn't have enough money and couldn't get everything I wanted. How embarrassing! Now I won't have to worry about that happening again.

  148. Yes, I did! Last week I bought our daughter a three tiered green house, some seeds and little planters for her 10 year adoption anniversary next Saturday! She is 12 years old, loves to garden and will be so surprised. Aldi is great and this just makes shopping there so much better!

  174. I used my credit card BEFORE they officially released the news to the public! In conversation the cashier told me they were making the big announcement but were allowing customers to use C.C. two days early! I was stocked since I didn't have to use what cash I had on me!

  207. Used it already. Expect pricing to go up to offset the credit card fees they will incur. Selfishly hope it doesn't bring in more traffic. Aldi stores are not big enough to handle high traffic.

    We like it because it consolidates all of our purchases onto our credit cards...not a fan of debit cards as they have much higher risk/responsibility if compromised, have overdraft risk, and they do not help improve a credit score with regular use....but like other comments, we wonder how pricing will be affected.

    With Aldi's pricing pretty stable and relatively low, and Aldi customers typically with a keen eye on prices in general, I suspect we may be able to spot the 'credit card price bump' if it's not a myth.

  208. I've used my credit card twice so far and plan to use it again today. I think it might encourage me to spend more because I'm not as worried about sticking to however much cash is in my pocket.

  212. I usually pay with my debit card, so I was expecting to not have to punch in my pin, but the "enter pin" screen came up, so I entered it. Maybe that is a default, or maybe the store hadn't switched over yet. I don't use credit cards, but not having to punch in the pin for my debit will be good.

  234. I run into Aldi's when I need cash back on my purchase since my bank is not close by. I did use my credit card for the first time last week and felt a little funny about it, like you, Rachel. It was odd enough that I asked the cashier if the merchant bank fees were going to drive Aldi's operating costs up (and in the end, the costs would be passed on to us. He said no. (Weird that they'll take Discover which has high merchant fees.)

  245. I have not used a credit card yet but over the years a couple of times I had to stop by my daughter's house & borrow $20 so I could get the rest of my groceries from Aldi's. Like most people I don't carry a lot of cash & once in a while I needed more $ than I had on me. Thank you Aldi's for accepting credit cards!

  246. I have not used my credit cards at aldi yet. Been using them a lot for our daughters wedding in May. I might use them in the future though it's a nice option if low on cash.

  248. Haven't used a credit card yet, but it's great to have the option. There have been a few times I had to scrap plans to go because I didn't have cash or bank card.

  249. I have used my credit card several times and what a great thing - I can get my bonus points with my credit card and not have to worry about not having cash on me! it did feel weird though "choosing" that card versus the debit card!
    Even Sam's club now accepts credit cards besides a debit card or only a discover card!

  251. I'm very glad they are accepting credit cards although have not tried yet. Lol, last time I was there, used my debit card out of habit!
    I do not like using my debit card at any store unless absolutely necessary due to fraud. Thanks for the contest! I love my Aldi!

  253. I have not had the opportunity to use a credit card at Aldi yet. I am planning a trip to Aldi on Wednesday so I will keep this in mind. My take on this is that it will open up options for people which is nice.

    I had sent my husband to Aldi about a week before they announced it officially. He hadn't been before, and came home saying "there were things you didn't let me know" - mostly meaning the carts and bags, and I said,
    "Oh no, I meant to tell you to take cash!". He had me very puzzled when he insisted that was no biggie, that he used his credit card!

  259. I've gotten so used to NOT using credit cards there that it didn't bother me that they didn't accept them. I think it's great, though - flexibility is always nice!

  270. I used my visa rebate card from past Kohl's deal, do know if that counts as a credit card but I am happy to hear Aldi will accept credit cards now! Thanks for the giveaway $50 goes a long way at Aldi.

  273. I used to shop at Aldi regularly when my children were younger, but I haven't been there in a few years. My youngest daughter re-discovered Aldi a few months ago, and it's now her go-to grocery store. I've been so impressed with the deals she's been getting, that I've been planning to make a shopping trip there soon.

  278. That is great that they take credit cards now. My mom and I used cash before and had a hard time keeping track of our running total, and didn't want to be embarrassed at the checkout if we didn't bring enough money. I think we both will be using CC at Aldi now. 🙂

  280. I have not used a credit card at Aldi since they started taking them. It is such a relief I do not have to worry if I have money in my wallet or if I do how much & calculate how much I can buy. It definitely takes the worry out of my shopping trip to Aldi in the future!
