Garage saling -- how are you doing this year?

I haven't had a lot of luck garage saling this year (haven't honestly done a lot of it, but finding a lot of sales with verrrry overpriced items and stuff that is in just plain bad condition). Scored on Friday, though!

New toy

Mr. 3 fell in love with this Peg Perego bulldozer/loader thing, which cost... $10.00! It's quite old and missing a pedal, but you know what? That's OK. Because when we went online to see if we could pick up the pedal, the closest thing I could find is the new John Deere branded version, selling for $179.99 (!).

Mr. 3 has played with it pretty much nonstop for the last two days. So, what have you scored lately? 🙂

  1. I've done pretty good this year, got a bike trailer(or whatever they are called) for $20 - in really good shape!

But yesterday I was visiting my mom in WI and went to this garage sale where there was no price on anything. Ugggh. Annoying.

  2. My 12 year old son came home from overnight camp raving about this great "new" game called .... Foosball! He's been looking on Craigslist and Ebay constantly and asking me if we can please please buy one. On Friday, I stopped at a garage sale on my way home from Dominicks 🙂 and what did I find? A foosball table in great condition - and I got it for only $20!!!!! Score!

  3. My older kids had this when they were younger and loved it. Littlest one hasn't quite the strength to pedal it through the grass at Nanas. (where we keep all thier big toys becasue she has a much bigger yard) COuld you possibly use a bike pedal on the pedal? We had a couple good finds this year but with my knee beign messed up I haven't felt much like going anywhere. Did find Mr 9 a brand new $75 bike for $10. It still had all the papers on it. Found one of those heavy duty plastic storage shed for outside, that I think retailed for over $100 for $25. Been having fun finding girl baby clothes for SIL, ahe is having the first girl in hubbys family in 3 generations!

  4. A very nice lady at a garage sale gave my 5 yo a nintendo DS with a broken hinge...for free (it pays to be cute!). I called Nintendo about getting it fixed and they wanted me to pay $85 plus shipping. I said I would have to talk it over with my husband (honestly, I wasn't sure we shouldn't just buy him a new one) and after some conversation, the price was magically dropped to $50 with free shipping. It came back in the mail in 5 short days with a 1-year warranty, and it was priceless on the drive to CA and back 🙂

  5. You might try contacting perego for the replacement pedal. we had purchased a ride-on from them and they were quick with a replacement handle - for free.

  6. I have'nt been on the ball w/ garage saling this summer. It was so rainy in June then its been hot hot hot!!! I was successful having a sale w/ about $400 made and got rid of some serious stuff!!!

  7. I got a portable baby swing for $5 on Friday 🙂 I love garage sales, but how do you find them? I'm sure there's gotta be a way other than driving around, right?

  8. Heidi~ check craigslist and your local newspaper. Mine has an area in the classifieds section w/ garage sales.

  9. join freecycle in your area and the post on there if they put a free box at the garage sale and most do to get them posted Junk but it is advertised then on group

  10. Love garage sales for books, who is going to pay 7.99 when when it's out there for .50! Great find on the bulldozer and nintendo. Had a block sale this year and made $300 for our vacation fund.

Went to a garage sale and the person had a table full of stuff that was obviously "purchased" using coupons. AquaFresh, Old Spice, bars of soaps, Oil of Olay etc.
Not sure how they did becuase it was priced close to what you would pay in the store with coupons : ) Has anyone else sold there stash at garage sales?

  11. I picked up someone's entire cd library at a garage sale... About 500 cd's at 50c each, which sounds like a lot of money but most of them are hot albums, classic albums. I knew I would be able to sell most of the ones we didn't want. Well... after shipping them off to secondspin in the next few weeks it will end up a moneymaker... and we are keeping 100+ of the best ones for ourselves!!!
