Update -- This post was originally written back in 2015, but: While the particular sale it refers to is looonnnnggg over, whenever pub burgers go on sale they'll still be found priced either per pound or individually. So, the same advice holds true! Continue to weigh packs, and/or look for bigger burger patties when they're priced per each.

8 oz pub burgers are on sale $1.25 each at Jewel through today 6/7. Heads up: They pack these in multipacks without weighing them individually, so packages might be a bit more or less than you're actually paying for. To get the best deal on pub burgers when they go on sale, either weigh yours before buying, or eyeball the packs to choose the one with the biggest patties. Make sure you're getting your money's worth!
I bought two four packs yesterday (one for the grill, one for chili). When I weighed them after looking at reader comments, both turned out to be just under two lbs. But, in comments, feelgood found one that was quite a bit short:
He notes: "If you’re buying the Jewel 8 oz pub burgers 4 for $5 this weekend, check the weight! I took a random $5.00/4 package and placed it on the store’s meat scale, it weighed 1.90 lbs. Placed another random $5.00/4 package on the scale, that one weighed only 1.73 lbs! And that doesn’t even account for the package and wrapping tare weight!"

Every time I've bought sale pub burgers since this original post, I've been sure to check the weight and/or look for the ones with the biggest burger patties. Since they're hand-sliced, their size can vary dramatically.
What can you make with your pub burgers?
Jewel pub burgers are delicious when just serves as burgers. When they go on sale $1.00-$1.25 each, though, that works out to $2.00-$2.50/lb -- which is a great price for ground beef! So, buy extra whenever Jewel (or any other store) has this sale, then break the burgers up to use them just as you would ground beef.

I picked some up in Lisle on Friday morning and they only had them in the butcher case so he weighed them, but the price was wrong in the system and they came up at $5/lb. He corrected them and said the scales must not have updated.
Interesting how in Indiana they priced them at a straight $2.50 a lb. Memorial day when they were 1.00 a piece in Il they were 4.00 lb in Indy.
The packages I bought did say $2.50/lb, but they were all four packs and the true weight can vary.
I used to weigh them all the time when I bought them as it seemed that some were quite a bit larger than others. Def. true. I also weigh multiple bags of pre-packaged produce like 3# bags of apples and they vary quite a bit. I assume the produce loses water weight as it ages, or I've seen people open the bags and re-pack them to their liking. I spend so much more time than ever reading labels and making sure I'm getting what the label says that I think I will soon be charged rent by the store for the amount of time I'm in there! By the way, the Jewel on Geneva Rd. in Wheaton just remodeled and removed the self checkouts. They replaced them with small stations with cashiers for 15 items or less, and it's the Disney type line where you get in line and the next person is served.. It looks like a great idea, and I hope it works out. I have awful line Karma, and rarely have a big order, so, I'm excited that it gives me a chance to get out when I finally arrive to the check out.
They appear to all gradually be removing the self checkouts -- some of the others I have been to lately have that same small station system. Which is great if people know how to use it, but I've also seen people jump the line and just go straight to the further station, lol.
Well, I hope it helps at least a little. There are always people that beat every system. I've learned to be very patient because I'm always in the wrong line, but, sometimes it just wears me out!
At the oswego on Orchard jewel they were selling the "tubes" of pub burger meat at $2.50 per pound. They ranged from $10-14 per tube.
I just had these over the weekend and thought there was something off with the meat. It didn't taste anything like regular ground hamburger meat, maybe they added a filler?. This was my first time buying these pub burgers, tempted because of the pricing, but never again.
I had bought these pub burgers with the last awesome sale and I did weigh all my meat at home. I actually froze them in one and 2 lb ziplock bags. I purchased my Pub Burgers from the Jewel in Mundelein. I was very impressed that the weight of the meat was accurate. Meat also tasted great! I have no complaints 🙂
It's mid November and the same 8 oz pub burgers are on sale at 4/$5.00. Pub burgers are made with 85% lean meat. On a different page in the sale flyer, 85% lean ground beef is on sale for $3.99/lb. At $2.50 vs $3.99 for basically the same product, I'll stock up on pubs and not worry too much about the weight discrepancies.
