Reader deals 4/24/15: Here are the deals, heads up, and requests you shared over the last 24 hours — Thanks! How do you share your own deal?

ACE

  • Some good deals seachicago spotted: “Ace is having a 3 day sale, Fri. 4/24 – Sun. 4/26. Of particular interest to me: 50 oz. Ajax laundry detergent (30 load) and 64 oz. Clorox Concentrated Bleach for 99 cents each (limit one of each). I don’t know if that’s a good price for bleach, but I needed some anyway! I’ve never used Ajax for laundry before, but if it’s not your preferred brand, it might make a good donation item.”

Costco

  • From seachicago: “Another plug for Costco (they don’t employ me, I swear!): for those of you unsure if a membership pays off, keep an eye on the gas prices in your area. I filled up with Premium at the S. Loop Costco yesterday, and it was $1.10/gal. more at the gas station a block down the street—yes, you read that right: $2.89 at Costco v. $3.99 at Citgo. My neighborhood gas station was a little cheaper, at $3.59/gal. for premium. Also, Costco’s “regular unleaded” is 89, which I notice other gas stations label as mid-grade. Around me, I find that Costco gas usually runs at least 50 cents a gallon cheaper than anywhere else. So for me, the membership pays for itself after only a few fill-ups a year!”

Here are some of the deals (and heads up!) YOU found recently — Thanks! How do you share your own deal?

Big favor: If you mention other sites, online coupons, etc, please include the link. Disclaimer: All of the deals below come straight from readers.

Amazon

  • Sandra warns: “I got mayo from Amazon about 2 weeks ago and it had separated probably due to freezing during shipping. Just something to keep in mind depending on where you live. I contacted Amazon and they gave me a refund (even though these items say they are not eligible for return) apology, and assurance it wouldn’t happen again when I told them what had happened. I’m thinking, though, that mayo may not be a good choice to get through the mail.”
  • Tina on Facebook suggests buying yourself a gift [Prime] membership and setting it to deliver after your current one expires, then cancel the current one before the gift one starts.
  • An option from Mari: “For those who think Prime is still expensive, you can share your membership with a friend or family member. I currently am added to my friend’s Prime account (where I guess he has me listed as his brother/sister), and as a sub-member, I am only eligible for the free 2-day shipping/$3.99 1-day (no minimum). This means no free streaming video, but as I have other ways to watch television and movies, I can live without it. We split the cost of Prime down the middle, and it’s a great arrangement as I get much use out of it. Even at full price, it’s totally worth it, IMO.”

Coupons

Butera

  • Outlander comments: “Also use those BOGO Qs for Nutella. They expire 3/15.”

Ebay

  • A warning from Sandi: “Be careful with these shoes! They are made for speciality runners and only should be worn a short periods at a time until you become used to them. Read the reviews…also there use to be a warning when you placed them in your cart stating this.”

Freebies

Groupon

Hy-Vee

  • An idea from Shirley: “You can also buy 4 Totinos Pizza Rolls for $10. Use $2 in ad coupon and 4 x $1.25 off IP (NLA) to get it for $0.75 each.”

J.C. Penney

  • Allison comments: “JcPennny in Stratford Square mall is closing. Everything is 30% off.”

Jewel

  • From letsshop on the tiny Tides: “No problems in Countryside or Willow-brook still has display”

Meijer

Piggly Wiggly

  • Outlander says: “Piggly-Wiggly in Carol Stream opened yesterday 3/11.”

Reader requests

  • From Katharine in Hot Deals: “Has anyone seen a coupon from Office Depot for free printing? They usually have coupon for free printing around tax time. Thanks!”
  • Outlander is wondering: “Is that CB meat any good? What does it compare to? Thanks.”
  • And Maribel asks: “Anyone knows if the Jewel in Elk Grove has any [tiny] tide?”
  • From Nancy: “I would love a few ‘sisters’ to join my family as my [Prime] membership with my other family is not being renewed.  I think the limit is 5 so I am looking for 4 ‘family’ members!”

Surveys

  • From mary: “I have been a member of [Global Test Market] for a long time, and they do send out a lot of surveys, and you won’t qualify for all, but I have qualified for a ton of them, as well as many at home trials of products. The points you accumulate you can redeem for cash as well.”

Target

  • Kelly on Facebook reports: “”I finally broke down and bought the Belvita Soft Baked breakfast biscuits today at Target because it kept showing up on my Checkout 51 week after week. As someone posted yesterday, it is also on Shopmium and Ibotta. So I bought 1 box for $2.99 (not a sale price) and got back 50 cents from Checkout 51 (mine was good for 1 box, not 2), 75 cents from Ibotta, $1 from Shopmium, and 15 cents for using my Target Redcard (5% off) for a grand total of 59 cents plus tax. It would have been even cheaper if I had remembered to use my Cartwheel! Tried one as soon as I got home–it tastes just like a Fig Newton! Now we’re eating cookies for breakfast!”

Ultra Foods

  • Something susie remembered: “Last week someone on here posted about a catalina that if you buy 10 items we get a $5 OYNO, and I think the fruit snacks were included. If so that could make for some cheap fruit snacks.”
  • And susie confirms: “The Kellogg’s Catalina is printing at Ultra, I tried it today when I bought for boxes of cereal and i earned a $3 OYNO”

Walgreens

  • Kitty emails: “did anyone notice that the $2 colgate rr is rolling?? and  it comes out as soon as the toothpaste is rung up. I have been getting the optic white but should be the same for all.”

  • Ashley found: “Jewel has these new tiny tide bottles for $1.49 so free with $3/2 coupon, they don’t say trial or travel and are stocked in regular aisle.”

Mariano’s

  • Something to look for from aimee: “i rec’d a coupon in the mail for a $25 gift card with a new or transferred rx, expiring 1/31.  i think there was a sign in the store about it too, so an actual coupon might not be necessary.”

Meijer

  • From Kristina: “Meijer on Rt 59 in Aurora has their 1.75 (?) qt Purple Cow ice cream – limited edition pumpkin pie flavor marked down to just 99 cents. They had more than a dozen left. I only bought one which is good because it’s surprisingly delicious.”

Menards

  • Don posts on Facebook: “Sooooooo with the double dip at Menards tomorrow – 14% instant and 11% M I R , who is buying what? I need some fresh ideas…..”
  • Debbie comments: “I also learned the hard way with the 11% running for 3 weeks straight at the beginning of the month each week had a different rebate number and a different postmark deadline to mail them in. Ultra Foods

  • A heads up from Mary Ann: “The Nature Valley cat deal is not rolling in Prospect Hts. I’ve done 6 transactions so far and needed CS intervention every time.”

Vonage

  • Francesca says: “I have to say I tried Vonage a few years ago and it was a huge mistake. Dropped calls constantly. And when I called to cancel they told me I had to pay for the caller id receiver and it wasn’t rented equipment so they billed me for that. It was not worth the $ saved.”
  • But Outlander had a better experience: “I love Vonage and have had it for years now. I used to pay more than $200 a month for my phone bill because of the international calls, but with Vonage it’s $25 + taxes/ month! Yes, there are occasionally not the best quality calls, but altogether it’s great. And every time I called about anything, they have the best customer service. Those guys helped me when I had trouble with other devices too, like the router or int. modem (where the other guys wanted money).”

Walgreens

  • A deal from Emily for anyone still going out tonight: “There is a 1.00 off 2 Dial Soap in tomorrows paper and at Walgreens the hand soap and bar soap are b1g1 free (today’s the last day). They price is around 1.89-2.29 for 2 minus the 1.00 coupon”

I used 2 $1/1 store and 2 $0.75/1 MQ (came in e-mail a week after signing up on OV web site). Got 10 cents back for bringing own bag. Total OOP $1.87 with tax for 2 16 oz containers. Big favor: If you mention other sites, online coupons, etc, please include the link. Disclaimer: All of the deals below come straight from readers.

7-Eleven

  • From Shandelle: “Had a couple new freebies in the 7-Eleven iPhone app yesterday. Any 20 oz bottle of TEN soda (7-Up, Dr Pepper, A&W, Sunkist) OR regular! A warning, the ecoupon would not scan for any of these products (TEN or regular) last night at 7-Eleven in the city. The clerk was nice and just gave it to me, and I’ve already submitted a ticket to 7-Eleven to fix it. The other freebie is for Pillsbury Cookies, which neither of the 2 stores by me carried. It’s a new product so it may not even be in the Chicago area yet. It’s hit or miss whether or not Chicagoland 7-Elevens carry the freebies in the app!”

Coupons

  • Ashley found: There’s $1/1 peelies at Meijer for those [Tyson Grilled & Ready] strips.”

CVS

  • Julie suggests: “Check you MCM coupons and CVS mailed coupons for a possible great deal on Flintstones Vitamins or other vitamins from Bayer. I received a $5/$30 vitamin purchase coupon in the mail (2 actually, 1 good now until Feb 15, the second good after Feb 15th). I also got a $4/$20 vitamin purchase from the MCM. Flintstones are on sale BOGO 50% and the 60 count gummies and chewables are $8.49 reg price. (second one rings up at $4.24) Buy 6 @ $38.19, Use 3 $5/2 Bayer products (includes Flintstones) from the 1-5 SS (the one with the general mills coupons), $5/$30 CVS mailed coupon and $4/$20 MCM coupon and you are down to $14.19 with $6 ECB back for a net of $8.19 for 6 pack of 60 count kids vitamins, or in our house about a month and a half’s worth.” And: “Also hubby wanted to add that he is a bit ticked off at Bayer on the vitamins. We got 1 pack of chewables for our 3 year old and he discovered that his childhood favorite of the Flintstone’s car was replaced by the Great Gazoo.” LOL!

Then I popped down the road to Jewel, picked up 10 Tyson grilled & ready strips for $20.00, and used 10 $.55/1 coupons from the 1/5 SS1. AtkinsDad likes to bring these for lunch, so $1.45 each seemed decent.

I’ll do a Pete’s/ALDI trip later for produce — maybe today if Mr. 6 is in a good mood when he gets off the school bus, lol. Yeah, that’s a lot of stores, but they’re all close together and I’m DARN STIR CRAZY. (Thanks, Polar Vortex!)
