This week of 5/19/13: Two SmartSource and one Red Plum.

In Chicagoland, the Chicago Tribune generally has the most coupons in it — even if the Sun Times or the DuPage Daily Herald or the other smaller papers have the same inserts, they’re often thinner. (On rare occasions, the Sun-Times will contain a coupon not found in the Trib, but it’s rare enough that it’s worth remarking on when it happens.) If you are outside of Chicagoland, you will want to pick up the largest-circulation paper in your area.

So, what looks good to me?

  • $1.00/1 4-pack Activia. These go 3/$5.00 pretty often.
  • $.55/1 crumbled Alouette. The Gorgonzola is $2.00 at Pete’s this week, and the feta also goes on sale often.
  • $.50/1 Hormel Natural Choice sandwich meat. This is $2.50 at Jewel this week.
  • $2.00/1 Johnsonville Grillers. These are $5.00 at Dominick’s and you can extend that price on JFU through Sunday.
  • $1.00/1 La Victoria tortillas and $1.00/2 La Victoria products.
  • $.75/2 Nabisco cookies or crackers.
  • $1.00/2 Pillsbury refrigerated baked goods products. If it’s good on “any,” we see the cans go on sale for $1.00 pretty regularly.
  • $.50/2 Sargento natural slices. These are 2/$5.00 at Ultra this week.
  • $1.00/2 Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce. Hopefully we will get this one this time — it’s $1.00 at Jewel and $.99 at Tony’s and $1.00 at Angelo Caputo’s and $.99 at Ultra this week.
  • $.55/2 Barilla blue box pasta. This is $.75 on the buy ten save $5 instantly sale at Jewel this week, and goes $1.00 all the time.
  • $.25/1 Heinz ketchup. Low value, but rare.
  • $2.00/1 Infusium.
  • $.50/1 Maruchan bowl or Yakisoba. These go $1.00 regularly.
  • $.55/1 Morton Kosher salt. If you don’t have any Kosher salt, get some — it’s great for cooking!
  • $1.00/1 Star olive oil.
  • $.75/1 Vlasic pickles.
  • $1.00/1 and $3.00/2 Banana Boat, same for Hawaiian Tropic. We’re starting to see sunscreen deals…
  • $1.00/1 pint Ben & Jerry’s. Need I say more?
  • A couple BOGO Clear coupons, which we have seen drugstore deals on galore. That was not a sentence, but you know what I mean. I also see a couple of Clear offers on Ibotta again to stack!
  • $.75/1 Jack’s pizza. This goes on sale for $2.00 regularly.
  • $.40/1 Lipton to go. This is $.98 on the buy ten save $5.00 sale at Ultra this week.
  • $.50/1 Snuggle dryer sheets. Are the small boxes still $1.00 at DG?
  • $1.00/1 Wet n’ Wild eye, lip, nail. More free makeup.
  • $.75/1 Welch’s 100% juice.
  • $7.00/1 24 ct+ Zyrtec. At Jewel through Wed: Zyrtec 25-30 ct, $17.98. Stack this $7.00/1 with the $5.00/1 store coupon in the allergy relief booklet and get it for $5.98.

So, how many?

Lots of food coupons this week — that’s a change! I’m getting six.

Not getting inserts in your paper?

The Tribune is apparently no longer including inserts in some papers, the further you get from the city — and some people in Chicago and the southern burbs are also missing one or both inserts in both delivered and purchased papers. This decision is made by the inserts — they’ll decide not to distribute in certain ZIP codes, or only to distribute a certain number in given areas so not all papers have them.

Here are a couple of places you can get clipped coupons and/or whole inserts, if the Trib isn’t working for you:

  1. Coupons & Things by Dede. Dede also has a loyalty program where you earn points for each order, and then can redeem those points towards $ off later orders. She ships fast.
  2. WeClipUSave — some cheaper than Dede, and often more stock. They also have whole inserts available.
  3. eBay — Be careful with eBay, though. I recommend that you stick to insert coupons, and stay away from FREE coupons, which are sometimes not legit, and avoid sellers that look fishy.

These are also good places to try if you just want a lot of a single coupon, as it can be more cost effective than buying multiple papers.

Not getting inserts in your paper?

So, how many?

It’s another week with decent coupons for the drugstores but not a ton of food coupons. So look at what your family needs and how heavily you play the drugstore game. I might only get two because I’m not doing the drugstores as hard core anymore, and am more looking for grocery coupons. You? :)

Not getting inserts in your paper?

In Chicagoland, the Chicago Tribune generally has the most coupons in it — even if the Sun Times or the DuPage Daily Herald or the other smaller papers have the same inserts, they’re often thinner. Urgh. Usually I like to get four on a P&G week, but there are NO other inserts and this is kind of a zzz P&G week. I’m doing two.

This week of 3/24/13: A Red Plum and a SmartSource.

In Chicagoland, the Chicago Tribune generally has the most coupons in it — even if the Sun Times or the DuPage Daily Herald or the other smaller papers have the same inserts, they’re often thinner. (On rare occasions, the Sun-Times will contain a coupon not found in the Trib, but it’s rare enough that it’s worth remarking on when it happens.) • Dove $.75/1 6pk+ bar excluding Men+Care and trial (4/21). There are additional Dove coupons, for those drugstore deals!
  • I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! $.75/2 spread products (4/21). This is often $1.99 at Dominick’s.
  • Lipton $.75/1 Recipe Secrets soup & dip mix packets (5/5). Don’t these go on sale for $.99 sometimes?
  • Weber $1/1 seasoning bottle, BBQ sauce bottle or 2 marinade packages (5/31). Should be useful when the marinade packets go on sale around Memorial Day.
  • Wisk $1/1 45oz+ laundry detergent (5/5).
  • Birds Eye $.50/2 Steamfresh (4/30). On sale for $1.00 at Jewel this week.
  • Brut $1/1 2oz+ antiperspirant/deodorants (4/24). On sale at Walgreens starting Sunday 3/24 for $1.99 with 1000 BR points. Some Dollar Trees also carry the 2 0z size. Either way: FREE.
  • Cuties $.50/1 2, 3 or 5lb product (4/24) DND. Produce!
  • Fast Fixin $1/1 20oz+ regular or restaurant style item (5/31). I have seen these go super cheap at Ultra before.
  • Schick $4/1 Hydro Silk razor or refill excludes 1ct single razor pack (5/5). Useful for CVS deals.
  • Seattle’s Best Coffee $1.50/1 12 or 20oz bag (5/24). This runs around $6.00 regular price at Target and sometimes is on $5 Friday at Dominick’s.
  • Smart Balance $1/1 spreadable butter or blended butter sticks (5/8). The spreadable butter was recently on sale for $1.50 at Meijer, so maybe they will do that again.
  • Sure $1/1 2.6oz+ deodorant (4/24). This is also on the deodorant Walgreens deal Sunday 3/24: $1.99 with 1000 BR points, so FREE after coupon + points.

So, how many?

There are some decent food coupons this week. I’m picking up at least four papers.

This week of 3/17/13: A Red Plum and a SmartSource. There are a whole ton of Hasbro coupons, so I’m wondering if they’ll be in their own insert again or in the SmartSource as shown — will let you know Saturday in Notes from the Chicago Tribune!

  • Aveeno $3/2 products excluding cleansing bars, trial sizes and 2.5oz body lotion sizes (4/30). Always useful on drugstore or Target deals.
  • Bic $3/1 disposable razor (4/14) ETS. Sometimes Ultra puts them on sale for $2.00.
  • Claussen $.55/1 pickles (5/12). Needs no explanation!!
  • Cracker Barrel $1/1 6oz+ block, cracker cuts or snacking bars (5/15). Hee, maybe Dominick’s will have another $1.99 sale, as that was awesome.
  • Duncan Hines Free frosting creations flavor mix up to $1 (6/30). Well, it’s free.
  • Fisher $.55/1 10oz+ baking nut item (5/31). If Jewel has another good sale — maybe with Easter coming?
  • French’s $.75/1 french fried onions (6/15).
  • Hershey’s $2/3 8oz+ Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s, Hershey’s Miniatures, Hershey’s Eggs, Cadbury, Jolly Rancher or Whoppers bags (3/31). Did you get the CVS store coupon for Whoppers that has been printing out this week? Hold onto it for a sale Sunday!
  • Hungry Jack $.50/1 premium hashbrown potatoes (5/12). These go BOGO at Jewel sometimes.
  • La Victoria $1/2 12oz+ salsa or taco sauce products (5/5).
  • Maxwell House $1/1 product (4/13).
  • Mitchum $1/1 regular or for women product excludes trial and multipacks (4/21).
  • Wonderful Pistachios $.50/1 5oz+ package (5/17) DND. Although these used to be $1.00/1…

So, how many?

It’s an OK week. I’m probably doing four. You?
