ALDI meal planning week of 1/28/18 – 2/3/18

Six Easy Dinners from ALDI for $60.00

ALDI meal plan — Start cooking 1/28/18

  • Sunday: Parmesan pork roast with Brussels sprouts & sweet potato.
  • Monday: Slow cooker BBQ chicken sandwiches. Top with pickles and serve with one oz of tortilla chips per person (reserving the remaining 9 oz of the bag for Friday).
  • Tuesday: Creamy tomato hummus soup (substitute chicken broth for vegetable broth), with strawberries & BBQ chicken grilled cheese (double recipe to serve four; omit BBQ sauce & use leftover BBQ chicken from Monday).
  • Wednesday: Slow cooker salsa chicken — just put 3 lbs of the chicken breast in your Crock-Pot with the jar of slow & low chili verde sauce on low for 5-5.5 hours, then shred & enjoy in flour tortillas with avocado, a little shredded cheddar, and sour cream. Serve with sliced pineapple. Note: If your store doesn’t have the chili verde sauce in its special buys aisle, you can substitute a 16 oz jar salsa of your choice + a packet of taco seasoning mix. The chili verde sauce is very mild; taste it and see if you want to spice up the chicken a little more to your own taste.
  • Thursday: Smashed potatoes with sausage, peppers, and onions, plus green grapes.
  • Friday: Loaded baked chicken nachos (perfect for a Friday night family movie dinner!), topped with halved grape tomatoes, avocado, olives, and sour cream. Serve with garden salad topped with any olives & tomatoes you have left after topping the nachos.
  • Saturday: Leftovers, family pizza night (ALDI sells a nice big take-and-bake pizza), eat out, or date night.

Let me know if you give it a try!

Things to know about the ALDI meal plans

A couple of notes

  1. I try not to repeat main dish recipes more often than once a month, but you will see favorite easy recipes come up again in these weekly ALDI meal plans as the same meats and produce items come up again on sale. Part of the fun of meal planning lies in mixing old stand-bys with something new each week.
  2. If one or more of these recipes isn’t to your taste, or if you have other ingredients to use, you can adapt the recipes in this ALDI meal plan to your family’s preferences — or just use the ideas here to supplement your own meal planning.

Ad markets and dates

This week’s ALDI meal plan reflects prices from the current week’s ad (running 1/21-1/27 in Sunday ad markets, and 1/24-1/30 in Wednesday ad markets). Non-advertised prices were collected on 1/24/18 at my local store in the Chicago suburbs, but non-advertised prices and produce deals *may vary* by location & region. In either ad market, shop any time through Saturday and start cooking on Sunday 1/28/18.

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you for these meal plans! I homeschool 5 kids and have ZERO mental energy to plan dinners. Family meals are so important to us and this site makes it so easy to accomplish them! I found you a couple months ago and have used your plans ever since. Most of the time I don’t even look at the plan or shopping list until I’m in the Aldi parking lot because I know you’ll have a great week of meals all planned out. So thank you for all your work putting these plans together and know that they are VERY much appreciated by me and my family!

I'm excited to be making the Salsa Chicken tonight for dinner! I see that it needs to be cooked for 5-5.5 hours. Is that on HIGH or LOW?

Thanks!!

I live in a Sunday market area. Every time I plan my shopping list each Sunday, then look at your blog for inspiration, I feel like I missed the boat, because your list is based on the shopping specials that ended the day before. Can you give some hints as to when you shop and when you post your updated meal plan? I always end up spending more because I just shop and over-buy, rather than meal plan, and I believe your plan would give me inspiration to help me do better, I just don’t know how to get in synch with your market & blog.

Looking forward to making the most of my budget, and the Aldi specials with you! Thanks!

I also have a suggestion- I have the app Flipp. It posts all the ads in your area. For Aldi, I can view the current ad and even the one coming up a week in advance. This is super helpful as I’ve been able to plan what I’ll get this week and what can wait. I hope that’s helpful!

I was thinking about the situation with the different schedules for the markets and have two suggestions for Andrea. Rachel has all her Aldi weekly plans listed weekly in the "Aldi Meal Plans" link. You could click on the various weeks to get an idea of possible menu plans based on what's on sale in your area for that week. Use copy/paste until you've fleshed out your weekly menu, print and take that shopping. Another option that would take probably a little less time is to use the search tool in the upper right corner to search specifically for recipes that use something that's on sale in your ad. For example, I searched for "Naan" and up came the regular recipes for lemon chicken skillet madness, naan pizza, and all the Aldi Meal Plans that had naan. Cut/paste, list is done. :)

Hope this helps, MamaHan

Hi Andrea -- For these meal plans, you'll want to shop by Saturday for the plan that starts Sunday. Because I'm in a Weds ad market, I post new plans every Weds (the day my ad comes out) in order to give as much overlap as possible between both markets. You'll find the specific ad dates for each market, as well as the date to shop by, included at the bottom of each post under "ad markets and dates." Hope that helps!
