Hey, I’m late to the party on this one — but I know some of you like shopping Fashion Bug, so here’s the heads up: The new owners will be closing all Fashion Bug stores by early 2013, and the website is shutting down update — ALL Fashion Bug stores shut down! in Sept. 2012.
If you miss Fashion Bug, here are some other places to try:
- Avenue — Discount codes right on their homepage, and plenty of sales. Sizes 14 and up.
- Catherine’s — Check the slides on their homepage for current coupon codes. Sizes 16W to 34W / 0X to 5X.
- CJ Banks — Always a sale at CJ Banks, which you’ll see advertised on their home page.
- JustMySize.com — all sorts of sales.
- Lane Bryant — Lane Bryant has constant sales, and will show you the current sale + code when you click through. Choose in-store pickup to avoid shipping charges.
- One Stop Plus — Sizes 12W to 44W. Check the top of their page for current codes, all the time!
- Sonsi — This is a link to their sale section, so see what you can find. Sizes 12 and up.
- SwimsuitsForAll — A nice selection of swimwear for all sizes.
- Torrid — Sizes 12 to 28, and a nice stop for some of the less frumpy items you used to find at Fashion Bug. Also check their home page for current codes and promos.
- Woman Within — Sizes 12W to 44W. Some really nice sales, plus sign up for email and get a new customer coupon code.
Sorry Fashion Bug is closing, but there are some alternatives!
Priscilla says
Uh oh, I have a gift card for there I hope I can still use it.
rachel says
You should probably do so ASAP! 🙂
Jessica says
you can use fashion bug gift cards at catherines and lanebryant locations as well, not just in fashion bug.
Frances says
Sorry the clothes in the other stores seem a bit price and no where near the clothes
I am interested in.. as well as traveling a bit further.. dont think I will be going to these places in the future.. too bad they had to close Fashion Bug.. I can find a place closer to home and better prices and clothes..
Donna says
Are youi kidding! I refuse to order from a catalog or on line and wait and then it has to be returned. Most stores only go to 24! I basicaly wear 26/28 in many things. Don’t like Lane Bryant prices and sales are better at Avenue, but they are not in my area. We had a Fashion Bug at both ends of town
Where do they expect fat people to go for clothes an hour drive????:
Jeanne says
I LOVED fashion bug, cute clothes and great prices. Lane Bryant prices are VERY HIGH and the quality is VERY POOR. I stopped buying everything but underwear and now it has gone the same way. 4 pair of undies for $30 and have a hole in the seem after a couple of washes. I will NOT shop Layne Bryant. Very disappointing.
allie says
I am upset too! I did almost all of my shopping for clothes at Fashion Bug. I dont know what I am going to do! Lame Bryant is so expensive and most of their tops are cheap cheap cheap (as is poorly made or crappy material). Catherines clothes just seem like they are meant for the old gals and Im not ready to go there yet. Torrid is good but Im in that 30-40 yo range so some of their things are too young….thats why Fashion Bug was so perfect! And if it was one of those weeks where I needed as extended size I knew I could get it there.I am just at a loss for what I am going to do. I can order things online but most of the time I end up sending it back because it didnt fit right or didnt meet my expectations. They could have closed Lame Bryant and I wouldnt have missed them really except for the bras and panties.
Martha Adamsky says
I started shopping on line with Woman Within. Quality is up and down with them. I found out even if I was going to pay a little more Avenue quality is far more superior. Just watch for sales and you get some really nice deals with Avenue.
Doreen says
I am really disgusted at the closing of Fashion Bug….I have a really hard time buying clothes at other stores. At Fashion Bug, I could buy the smaller sizes for the bottom in petite and larger for on top, if need be. I can’t do the same in other stores, Lane Bryant is too expensive for junk and the clothes are always baggy on me and old looking. I’m really ticked off by the closing of Fashion Bug!
maram says
I totally agree with you! Nicer/better fitting clothes, that you could mix and match on sizing. Lane Bryant’s too expensive and is of terrible quality, along with being, as you said too baggy, and never have plus size petites which Fashion Bug did. so sad.
Kristy says
I used to love LB and used to wear out my LB charge card. It seems like in the past 5 years or so, the quality has really declined. The last several times I’ve gone in there, I’ve walked out empty handed.
All I really want is basics that I can mix and match. What happened to their cotton camis? The last time I went in for camis, they were this weird microfiber material that I cannot stand to touch.
rac says
if we have a fashion bug credit card, can we use it at lane bryant when fashion bug closes
Laura Latham says
I can’t believe Fashion Bug has closed; yes, it was one of the best stores that sold, true-to-size for plus size clothing. It was one of the best stores for low-income budgets; and it was of a good variety, quality and modern, updated styles. Some of the plus size clothing at most places, tend to be old-fashined, out-dated or matronly. Some of them did not have, a full range of sizes for plus size clothing. Catherine’s and Lane Bryant’s are usually too high for my budge; unless they are on clearance. I don’t like the new change in Lane Bryant’s styles, they are more casual. It’s harder to find real career fasions at Lane Bryant’s now. Fashion bug was modern, contemporary and trendy. I bought all my clothes for my job there (career wear). Definitely “dress for success”; and you could get all of your accessories as well, there. Loved the lingerie too, for the plus sizes; sexy, cute & classy. And yes, they had them everywhere in most large cities; (all over the city) and they were easy to get to. They will be truly missed.
Cathy Daily says
I think it is a total shame that you all are closing the fashion bug stores!! I’ve bought lots of clothes there over the years and in my area, Mt. Vernon, Illinois, there are NOT a lot of clothes stores. I have a fashion bug charge card also.
jewel takai says
i have shopped at fashion bug for 7 years in ukiah, ca, we have a few other stores like kohl and j c penney, but not as nice as fashion bug for bigger sized ladies. please reconsider closing store we were so blessed to have on in ukiah, ca.

Billie Davis says
We live in a small rural town with limited clothing store options especially for the Plus Size figure. I have shopped Fashion Bug and have been very pleased with the quality of the clothing and the fashion choices that are NOT frumpy for the Plus Size gal. We just got a Kohls, what a disappoint that was. I left that store and went straight to Fashion Bug and purchased my clothing the same day Kohls opened. Please reconsider closing your Fashion Bug stores especially in small rural areas that only have a Walmart or a Kmart to shop for clothing.
A very sad customer
Rolla, Missouri
Cheryl Broda says
i always buy my clothes at Fashion Bug they fit better than Lane Bryant clothes and are less expensive. Can’t figure out why you nare closing these stores you should reconsider and close a few Lane Bryant and Catherines. Now what am I to do.
Megan says
I am so upset that their closing. I have no idea what I am going to do. I leterally get ALL my clothes there. The other store Catherines even lan Bryant are more geared to older people or dress clothes. Fashion Bug had cute tshirts, lounge wear or even club gear. They had a cute teen dept. I cant understand why their closing. I am going to be so lost without them. I seriously went there in Decemeber and spent almost $700 I bought 1 of everything I could fit in in the store. Are the clothes makers going out of business? Where can I buy their tshirts and stuff if their still making them? I pray another store of Fashion Bug maybe just under another name will reopen. If it was done right there is so much $ to be made. I pray for all the hundreds if not thousands of employees of Fashion Bug, their personal cloth companies and on down the line this is effecting. SO many people will be jobless now. Sad.
Charlotte says
Have you checked out Torrid? They (used to?) sell cute, plus sized clothing.
Kathleen Magee says
I really like your store nice clothes . I love dolman sleeve sweaters .
jewel takai says
i am writing a second comment, with a idea. maybe jcp could contact the suppliers of fashion bug and buy their clothes etc from them. they are alway struggling mayber that would put jcp back in business. the suppliers of fashion bug had so many great colors and style not found in ross’s or khol.
just a thought
Alicia says
Is fashion bug in ukiah, ca still opened or did they close already?
D Holmes says
I could never buy clothes from your store. You messed up by not providing all sizes. I am a size 2. The smallest you carried was 6. Not everyone has succumbed to the getting larger trend. I will not miss you. Bye bye.
Marie says
Is that anything like how not everyone is an anorexic Barbie doll with a bad attitude?
Jessica says
there are hundreds of stores that sell clothes for smaller people at a reasonable price but very few that sell clothes for people over a size 6 (which apparently is considered plus size in many areas, and is far from being correct). Is it really too much to ask that acctual plus size people 14-32+ have a reasonably priced store with nice clothes.
jb says
Lady , you need a meal !
Linda Z. says
I know that whatever I say isn’t going to change anything but I am so disappointed. I always loves the tops with the bilingual on them. No other stores compared. I was always complimented on my style and would often be asked where I shopped. I also loved the jewelry and jeans. Don’t know where I will shop now. It’s going to be tough. Can’t somebody do something?
Linda Z. says
I’m correcting my spell check. I meant that I loved the tops with the bling on them.
Nanci says
I was buying my clothes for a long time at fashion bug. Then I noticed for the same clothes I bought prior, they would be more expensive with the discounts…sale? Raised the prices then gave a discount and the same clothes I bought were more!
Adriane says
I have shopped at Fashion Bugs since I was 15yrs old now I am 45, I have raised both my daughters on this store, it hurts me to see it closing. I wish there was something could be done. I love this store and would do anything to see it remain open
dee w. says
Oh No!! I have bought from fashion bug since they opened. There is not another store that caries the variety of plus sized and reasonable prices, as Fashion bug. Please reconsider, and keep us in Fashion!!
Ember says
Just a thought for all of you who don’t know… Avenue.com is quite comparable to Fashion bug in style, selection, price, and quality but they carry a little bigger sizes.. I love that store too!
Sharon says
We welcome all sizes 12-26 to come shop at your local Ashley Stewart Stores or online at ashleystewart.com
Jan says
Fashion Bug closing is just breaking my heart.
I never get to go shopping very often but Fashion
Bug was my choice my store over any store for my
clothes. I am very upset right now. I cannot
possibly shop till 2/3 and the store will be closed.
I am so sorry for anyone that loves the store as
much as I do!
terry says
i just can’t believe this. i do not like lane or catherine’s one bit. i just don’t know where i will shop. khol’s clothes are no fun and rather ugly if you are plus size. this really depresses me now i will have to see my shrink this week.
susie says
i love Fashion bug were in the world will i go shoping ihave went to others stores but i always come back to fashion bug to shopits going be hard to shop for nice pretty cloths.i dont care for l j s or lane catherines or just my size guess i will just shop wall mart.
Linda Perez says
Cannot believe they closed the only decent store for larger women to shop at. I live in Santa Maria Ca. not a huge town but good size (now) and there is not one store besides Macys and JCP (not for larger sizes tho)to shop. So that means there are no larger size stores here. I too have ordered online. Six months ago bought around $400 worth of cloths and kept two things. Absolutely hate shopping on line. Wouldn’t be so bad if it was all free s/h on returns. But it usualy is not then that ends up costing u alot just to return things. Why in the hell would they close Fashion Bug. Really a bummer I too didnot hear a thing about it until store was gone already
Xanthe says
I am so upset that Fashion Bug is closing. I am not considered Plus Size, so places like Catherine’s and Lane Bryant will not work for me. I literally buy all of my work clothes from Fashion Bug because I struggle with buying pants…I have a curvy figure, just not quite plus size…..Why????
steph says
Theres a local store where i live called “SPARROW” they specialize in edgy indie rocker jewelry and have excellent quality and price. They have begun to create an online store which should be open sometime this spring 2013 (anytime now) There site is going to be: Shop-sparrow.com. They have begun to upload photos of what they’ll carry onto there Facebook, twitter, and Pinterest site.
Facebook.com/ShopSparrow
Twitter.com/ShopSparrow
Pinterest.com/ShopSparrow
They always run amazing promotions, freebies, gifts with purchases, and major discounts. There jewelry is excellent quality and very durable. If you have a Facebook, twitter or Pinterest account you should add them to get notification of there grand opening. Im sure they’ll do something amazing 🙂 Cant wait I’m so excited for them to open. THey carry fun edgy pieces!!!

I am really upset that all the Fashion Bug stores are closing!!! I have watched them slowly close here in Camden County NJ since last February when the one around the corner from me closed. Your other stores will not make you the money that Fashion Bug would have and I know the majority of FB shoppers Will Not shop at your other stores even if they had decent and well priced clothes, Why? Because you closed the Best Store out of them all!!! Fashion Bug had something for everyone, small, big, short, tall, young or old. You are a foolish company to have closed them!! I have the Premier charge and loved all the perks I would get, Fashion Bug was my Favorite Store for many, many years and you took that away, not a good business move!!!
Victoria says
I agree with you all that shopping won’t be the same without Fashion Bug, my go to store..It seams that there are so many of us complaining about them closing, and they are closing because the store wasn’t making money?? find that hard to beleive!..I found a great seller on ebay that caters to the larger size woman, great prices and super fast free shipping..the name is 845hdgirl05..she carries nice clean new and preowned stuff, up to 7X..I check her out once in a while and always find something I can afford. In the meantime, I will not be shopping at the Khols, or Walmart, not wasting money on cheap stuff..You all have a blessed evening and RIP FB!
Lynne says
I also agree, as I watched the Fashion Bugs near me close one by one. I am not plus size(anywhere from 8-12), but often need different sizes on top & bottom, and Fashion Bug always seemed to have good quality merchandise that fits well, lasts & wears well through washings, etc.. I’ve bought so many things there. I will miss them a great deal!
I also have a Fashion Bug charge and was told by one of the sales people in the store that Dress Barn will accept the charge card & gift cards. However, I do not plan to use the card ever again, anywhere else. Even if it is accepted elsewhere I will boycott and never shop at any of their other “Sister” stores. Actually, I can’t use Catherine’s or Lane Bryant anyway, since they have sizes too big for me. I am extremely disappointed & feel a sense of loss & sadness that comes with any change for the worse. Nothing remains the same.

I have shopped for many years at Fashion Bug and you could find some great deals and fun clothing. Some of their prices were high but they always had great sales and coupons, coupons, coupons. Farewell to those days. I’ve always disliked Lane Bryant but now I absolutely loathe it. I am really needing some new pants for work. I have purchased a good basic dress pant many times as fashion bug for about $30. Tonight I went to Lane Bryant out of desperation, I have seen the same pants there before with the LB name. Well yes they had them but the $59.95. That will be the day I spend $60 buck on a pair of basic black pants for work. They are crazy. I will never return there again. Ladies try Burlington Coat Factory, Ross’, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx for plus size clothing. You may have to hunt a bit more but you won’t have to pay $60 for pants. Thanks for listening.
Lynne says
Sorry, Just reread my statement & noticed I meant I am a size 8-12, not the plus sizes being 8-12. Sorry for the confusion.
FlyingRoo says
I was just looking for their website, it’s been a while since I last shopped at Fashion Bug, I had no idea they are gone… too bad.
For those interested, CJ Banks has really nice stuff, true to size, good quality, from career wear to casual… the prices are better than any of the stores you mentioned. I discovered them last year and I’ve forgotten about LB, Avenue, etc since then….

I wanted to get a gift card when I saw the Fashion Bug store had closed. I never received notice that the store was closing yet I have an account. Is there any way I can get a gift card? Lane Bryant clothes can not compare and Catherines are too expensive. WHAT ARE THE NEW OWNERS THINKING????
leeshato says
I prefer this store to Lane bryant which is to expensive or Ashley Stewart. Lane Bryant brought them out then closed them. I thing that is because many of us who shopped a lane Bryanst started shoping at Fashion Bug.
Michelle says
With Fashion Bug’s loyal following, its amazing they didnt make a go of it.
Must be mismanagement. Hope the new owners realize how popular the store was and do something about getting them back.
Pamela says
Out of all the womans stores in Springfield MO I really liked shopping at Fashion Bug. I haven’t been able to find a decent pair of undies anywhere (I’ve been shopping there for over 5yrs.) I really hate it when I have to start the search all over again.

I worked at fashion bug years ago and at that time they carried junior sizes along with plus sized clothing and while working there I noticed multiple women who would come in and buy for themselves (in the bigger women section) and their daughter would buy in the junior section. I think that is how they messed up and started to losing alot of sales is by taking away the junior section. You know how many plus size women that go shopping and would love for their daughter to shop at the same time so that they are not going to multiple stores??? I could not believe when I went into that store after I quit working to realize they had taken the junior section out and made it a plus size only store. THAT WAS THEIR DOWNFALL
helene clifford says
When will the fashion industry realize that obesity is an epidemic in the U.S. and start catering to the plus size woman and not size 2 to 10. What is now considered size 2/4 was a size 10/12 20 years ago. And the other store’s .selection…if they were giving it away I wouldn’t take it. I always knew I would not come out of Fashion Bug empty handed; I could count on them having what I wanted. In the larger department stores, the largest plus size is 24, that is if they have a plus size department. Get real. At least go to 30, or have separate stores, like Fashion Bug, that cater only to the plus size woman.
Jennifer Gustafson says
I am heartbroken that Fashion Bug is going out of business. I will not be shopping @ Lane Bryant or Catherines ast//they are too expensive. They do not carry what I would wear. Thanks for making it harder for plus sized women to find quality clothing @ a reasonable price. Jennifer Gustafson.

I and my two daughters have shopped at your fashion bug stores in st joseph mo and liberty I believe we have spent thousands of dollars in your stores for christmas 2011 alone at least three thousand dollars we really enjoyed your store ,not to mention all the other amounts we have spent, never left the store without at least 150.00 I would suggest you send me your list of dealers and I would be happy to open a store of our own, after all there is more real woman out there than twiggy sized gals to look your best along with acting your self is what a woman is about, I know if you sent your dealers to me we could be in a exciting and profitable business I am sure that I could make a million the first year, So how bout it send it on the way.
Sincerely

Not happy about this at all. The prices at the other stores are unreasonable!!!! I know our fashion bug here was always great quality for great prices. Very disappointed. They make it very difficult for plus size women to get clothes!

so very sad. I loved this place. I use to live in Seattle, Washington was lucky enough to live in the center between 3 Fashion Bugs and only shopped there. I am currently in an area in CA that did not have one so I traveled several times to get to one or ordered online. So very upset that they are out of business. i totally agree with those about Lane Bryant and Catherine’s…. way too expensive, poor quality and limited choices for combining outfits 🙁

Ohhhh noooo. This is a huge part of my childhood. I have shopped here since 11 y.o. , and it was my only source of clothing in my 20’s. Very iconic to me. I
I saw major plus-sized collections. Wonderful, unique misses clothing/accessories. Plus, I always saw a great junior department( siZes as low as 0). I believe a kids section too. There was also a male section at one time, didn’t last but a year or so, but it sure helped me provide clothes for everyone with my fashion bug credit card. You will be missed FASHION BUG!

I hate that you are closing all fashion bugs. Most of lane Bryant tops don’t ever fit me right where yours did. Catherine closed there store where I live so I can’t even go there. Both stores did real good here and I never understood why they removed them. Stupid people I guess.

I AM SO UPSET ABOUT THIS. I USE TO WORK FOR LANE BRYANT AND THEIR CLOTHES ARE WAY OVER PRICED. I HAVE SO MANY CUTE THINGS FROM FASHION BUG. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY ARE CLOSING THE STORES. YES THE OTHER STORES ARE EITHER FOR OLD TYPE GRANNY STYLES, TOO YOUNG, OR TOO EXPENSIVE. I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS AND I GUESS THEY ARE ALREADY CLOSED. SAD.
Veronica says
I was also told that we could use our Fashion Bug CC at Maurices. They have cute cloths from work to play time!I’m excited!

I bought all my good fitted clothing from Fashion Bug. There are no clothing stores in my area that carry quality styles for plus size women like Fashion Bug. So disappointing!!
Jamie Roney says
I am in mourning! Say it is not so! I have loved Fashion Bug from the start and even modeled for them one time in a fashion show. There is no substitute! Like the other comments, the other affiliations do not provide clothes that I desire, appreciate, want to spend high dollars on, or fit right! Fashion Bug was the place to go to meet my petite needs!
Marlene says
I cannot believe they closed!!! How did I not hear about this before???
I have been wearing their LA Blues specially sized jeans for several years. They were the only pants that fit my figure correctly – big bottom and thighs, small waist, short rise. Anybody know where I can find something similar? Most brands that fit the hips are too big in the waist and come up to my bra in front.
I am so mad that I was in the store in Aug. and NOBODY mentioned they were closing! I would have bought several pairs if I had known!
