Zaycon Foods is back — Ground beef only, now LFTB free
Posted at 11:05 am by rachel in events, salesYes, I was indeed annoyed at Zaycon around the whole LFTB fiasco a few months ago, and still think they handled it poorly, but their stuff is darn tasty.
They are back in IL with a ground-beef only sale, and now specifically advertise it as LFTB free! (Yup, them and almost everyone else now, right?!) They say the chicken sale will be coming back to IL in the fall, for those who are wondering.
So here’s the deal:
- Zaycon has fresh 93/7 ground beef at $3.29/lb!
- Pick up in Gurnee, Bolingbrook, Joliet, or Schaumburg.
- Pickups are all Tuesday, August 28 at various times depending on location.
What’s a Zaycon?
Again, if you’re not familiar with Zaycon Foods,
- They sell fresh boneless skinless chicken breast, ground beef, and bacon by the case, as direct from local farmers as possible.
- Pre-order, then head to local pickup locations at the specified date/time to pick up your order.
- They schedule events across the country — they were in IL in Nov. 2011, then March 2012.
Here’s their details
Zaycon details about this beef, straight from their email.
• LFTB Free
• Comes in a 40-lb case with four 10-lb chubs per case (approximate weight–see note below).
• No chemicals, additives or water added to meat during processing.
• Processed at a USDA-inspected, state-of-the-art plant employing strict operating protocols (including HACCP) and the highest in food-safety standards.
• Prior to processing, inspectors from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service randomly sample cattle under a monitoring plan and perform testing for antibiotic residues.
* USDA nutrition labeling standards defines “extra lean” and “lean” ground beef based on the lean/fat ratio. While not part of these guidelines, the term “super lean” is often used in the grocery sector to describe ground beef at the upper end of the “lean” category (i.e., “Zaycon Foods 93/7 Super Lean Ground Beef”). This ground beef product is 93% lean and 7% fat.
[NOTE: This product is an approximate weight. Some cases will weigh slightly less than 40 lbs. Customers receiving cases less than 40 lbs will receive an exact credit representing this difference in their ZF account.]

Anyone interested in splitting an order for Gurnee pickup? 40 pounds is a bit much for me!
Submit followup comment and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks you sooo much… I just needed to scroll a bit farther!
Any one in the Downers Grove, Westmont, Oak Brook, Westchester area or a few miles north or south want to split an order? Maybe you can pick it up? (Its a little hard for either my husband or me to get away from work during the day.) And we will give you a little cash for gas?
Just reply to this post and let me know how to reach you.
We’re in Bolingbrook, and would consider splitting an order. [email protected] if you want to discuss details. Hubby works in Downers Grove if that helps.
Great! I’ll email you now.
I missed it. What was the LFTB fiasco? Would you buy from them again Rachel?
They said they didn’t have it. Then it turned out they did, but they were kind of defensive about it, and never apologized — since their whole shtick is being fresher, no additives, etc., a lot of people felt misled. But now it’s gone out of theirs (like everyone else’s, lol).
Yes, I’d buy from them again — I’m disappointed in the way they handled that particular situation, but think the LFTB thing blew up like no one expected, and it was in everyone’s beef. I’ve been happy with their customer service in general, and happy with the products. However, I’m not buying beef since I still have some left from last time — I’m going to wait for the chicken in the fall.
I just wanted to say thank you for creating a community where we can find like minded individuals. I split an order of the ground beef with virtually a complete stranger that I connected with on this post. It went beautifully and I now have enough ground beef for lots of yummy winter crockpot recipes. She and I are already looking forward to a chicken and bacon split later this year.
We had the ground beef in spaghetti the same night and I have to say the beef tasted beef-ier. I imagine it will make tasty burgers too.
I agree. Good to hear some feeback on the quality. I missed it this time because I was on the fence about it for too long.
That’s awesome!
They’re supposed to be back with chicken in a couple months, so I’m looking forward to that.
I read on Facebook that September 15 is when they start taking orders for chicken in IL.
“Zaycon Foods is gearing up for our annual Roll Out America event. We will be bringing our famous Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts to all the lower 48 states. Ordering will be open mid-September. Start clearing out your freezer now you are going to want to stock up, as the drought continues and food prices are on the rise. Zaycon continues to bring your family high quality products at rock bottom prices.”
