Unsolicited endorsement for this overfilled plush mattress pad

Two years ago, I wrote a post about how to fix a sagging mattress — now updated for 2016!

This mattress pad helps, but doesn’t fix it

So I was poking around on Amazon recently and started reading the reviews of this Pinzon Basics Overfilled Plush Mattress Pad … Figured it was worth a try, and definitely cheaper than going out and buying a whole new mattress. We needed a new mattress pad anyway, and although this one is pricier than I’d like, it also looked like it might help us sleep better.

We’ve used it for five nights now, and: I highly recommend it! No, it didn’t fix our bed. No, it’s not exactly the same as getting a new mattress. But, yes! I’m waking up with less back pain than I have had in years, sleeping better, and in general lying much more comfortably. You can definitely tell the difference over a regular mattress pad, and so far I’m glad we made the investment. MashupDad, although initially skeptical, is also now a fan. Check out the other reviews of this overfilled plush mattress pad here, and I’d love to hear your thoughts if any of you try it out as well. I’ll see how it holds up over time (and know that we really do have to replace this horrid mattress at some point!) but for now remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm not even dealing with the bit about not being able to afford it (I am choosing not to!), but we've owned our sagging mattress for 5 years. WHY is it already doing this? Does anyone own a mattress that actually lasts without sagging after a few years? Argh.

I am looking for a new mattress cover. My DH shreds the sheets and the pad with his feet at night! It's falling apart. do you see this as pretty sturdy like it will wash well when you wash it? And I feel your pain with braces and "life" etc. We have so many dental bills right now I could cry. ;-) I am going to investigate this. Thanks for the post!

It's very thick. I haven't had it long enough to speak to how it will hold up. Reviews on Amazon seem good -- some people said that the backing melted in their dryer, though, so my plan is to wash on as gentle as possible and air dry (or just run briefly then air dry the rest of the way.

We were having similar issues ( sagging mattress and money always going to some other necessity) My mother in law was getting rid of a pad like this so we took it. I agree my back no longer hurt. It was a good quick fix, and super cheap for me! ;)
