With this year’s lovely flu season, if you have been having trouble finding the flu shot “in stock,” Jewel wants you to know they’ve gotten in extra shipments. Here’s their press release:

Thousands of Extra Doses of Flu Vaccine Headed to Jewel-Osco®

(Itasca, Ill.) Jan. 14, 2013 – With the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now calling this season’s flu outbreak an epidemic, JEWEL-OSCO® is taking extra steps to help consumers stay healthy.

This week the retailer will ship about 7,000 additional doses of the flu vaccine to its pharmacies, with deliveries scheduled to begin Tuesday, Jan. 15, and continue the next day.  About 170 JEWEL-OSCO pharmacies are to receive some of the additional doses.  Delivery dates are based on store locations, so customers are advised to contact their local JEWEL-OSCO Pharmacy for more information.  The retailer has experienced an increase in demand for the flu vaccine this season compared to last.

JEWEL-OSCO has specially-trained immunizers to administer the traditional flu shot and needle-free FluMist® nasal spray, as well as the Fluzone® High-Dose vaccine for patients ages 65 and older.  The vaccine is available on a walk-in basis, during regular pharmacy hours, and is reasonably priced at $29.99 for either the traditional shot or the FluMist®.  Fluzone® HD is available for $59.99.  This cost is covered by Medicare Part B and many commercial health plans, so many customers may not incur out-of-pocket expenses.

My store has a ton. I am a pharmacy tech at the Mount Prospect/Randhurst store- we had ordered extra shots but then we got MORE in. So yeah try your nearest Osco if you’re looking for a shot. Thanks Rachel.

Call walgreens pharmacy and/or the take care clinic in the area. I know most of the clinics by me ordered a bunch more flu shots. I live in the crystal lake area.

Walk in anytime to any walgreens and you can get a shot. They are the professionals you want to go to for something like this. For a gallon of milk, soda, can of soup….i’ll go where the price is best no questions asked. For healthcare…go to a healthcare professional. Walgreens is a pharmacy that happens to sell a lot of other things. Jewel is a grocery store that happens to have a pharmacy. If for some reason a walgreens did not have any vaccine the one down the street probably does. This stuff gets shipped daily to where it is needed. Don’t believe of a shortage until there is no where within 15min to get it.

Keep in mind the flu shot offered this year does NOT cover the BAD NASTY flu going around that keeps you down for weeks.
There are many MANY different strains of the flu and the virus covered yearly in the flu shot changes and is based on what they assume will be the worst that year.
    Do your research.
Nutrition and healthy hygiene will help more than that shot.
