I’ve been talking a lot about about Endorse and Ibotta, but one app that I always forget to use is Shopkick, where you get “kicks” for going to certain stores, scanning select items in store, and more. You also get random mobile coupons for stores like Target.

Wish you didn’t need a iphone for these things ,Haven’t gotten one yet .Any suggestions anyone ?I am not a cell phone talker just use a prepay which is great Have 6 phones but all land line (O:

Most all of these work on iPhone or Android, but yes you need a smartphone for the apps. If you really do want one but don’t use often they do have pay as you go plans with smartphones — check out virgin mobile for example.

And honestly, if you wouldn’t use it for anything else but these few shopping apps, it probably isn’t going to be worth the extra fees — you would have to decide the cost/benefit ratio for yourself :)

    No blackberry for this?????

  5. rachel says:

No blackberry for most of them, unfortunately — most of the shopping apps are iOS and Android, sorry.

I was about to install the app. on my phone, but read what it said:

This application has access to the following:

    Services that cost you money:
    directly call phone numbers
    Hardware controls:
    take pictures and videos
    Your location:
    approximate location (network-based),
    precise location (GPS and network-based)
    Network communication:
    full network access,
    pair with Bluetooth devices
    Your personal information:
    read your contacts
    Phone calls:
    read phone status and identity
    Storage:
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage modify or delete the contents of your SD card

Isn’t it a little bit too much access to a personal information?

Well if you look at what it does — it has to be able to scan and store. It reads contacts because you can invite friends. It reads your precise location because it geolocates when you walk into a store to give you the “kicks.” Etc. I’m not sure why it asks for access to call phone numbers, lol — but if you read the terms on any app, it’s pretty scary. All I can say is that I’ve used it and have no problems with it, but everyone has to make their own decisions :)

You can even link your credit card to the app to get kicks based on purchases made at the stores. I guess I am not an overly cautious person when it comes to technology and identity issues so this worked for me. I did a lot of Christmas toy shopping at Toys R Us and earned enough kicks for some $10 Target gift card cash ins. Thanks for the heads up on the free $2 Target gift card.

I saved my kicks all year- had enough for 4 25.00 target gc. Used then on the video games buy 2 get 1 free. Then paid the rest with 5.00 gc from buying this and that. Got 193.00 worth of video games for free! I was so pleased!
