Ace Hardware
- John noticed some information on the free paint: “The coupon is also on page 2 of today’s Ace ad in the Tribune. It says “average availability 40 quarts per store,” not sure how long that usually lasts.”
Activities
- A find from jenniferh: “oodrich theaters is starting up a spring FREE movie for kids series. FREE!!!! saturday and sunday 9am and 10 am. included titles are Ice age, 3 stooges, rise of the guardians, madagascar 3, hotel transylvania, the pirates, paranorman, and the lorax. Free is good for us because you never know how much a 3 year old will sit in a movie!!”
Aldi
- A heads up from Amy: “It is 6 oz of blackberries. Our Aldi had a sign today.
But still a great price!” - From jenniferh: “Yep, west dundee had it mislabeled as 1 pt. I asked at checkout and they gave me a free 6oz (i was buying a bunch anyway) as a “price match” and then they fixed the sign. I guess if its in the ad and you are the first one to catch it they will price match for you.”
Amazon
- On the $5.00 Kindle Hunger Games trilogy, Jen noticed: “Also, these come up on the list of Kindle Prime books that can be “checked out” for free with membership.”
CVS
- A deal idea from Susan: “I got a coupon out of magic coupon machine at CVS for $10 off crest white strips. This week you get $10 off white strips automatically with your card. There is a $7 coupon out there and a $10 mail in rebate. I got the $63 ones (there are cheaper strips). $10 off automatically. $10 CVS qpon. $7 manufacturer qpon. $10 mail in rebate. I had some ECB’s to burn so I thought it was worth it:)” $7.00/1 is in the 2/10 RP.
Dominick’s
- LauraL found: “On page 5 of the Chicago Suntimes, there are three $2.00 Grain Berry coupons. One for cereal, muffin mix and snack crackers. For each one of these products, they are showing the Dominicks price at $1.99, so all would be free. Plus there is a mail in rebate for another free item.”
J.C. Penney
- Maggie posts on Facebook: “Just wanted to give you a heads up to check your email from JC Penney today. I got a $5 off $5 online or in store purchase from them this morning.”
- LauraL got it too: “Check your email from JCPenny. I received a $5.00 off $5.00 coupon.”
Meijer
- Observations from feelgood: “Toaster Strudel for .94 each sounds like a great price. Will have to check Sunday inserts and printables for coupons, they’re usually around .50 off on 2. Much better deal at Walgreens this week on Right Guard, $1.00 for two as Rachel had posted.”
Reader requests
- One from edie: “After all these comments and information, I was sold to ditch Comcast. Now, my hubby agreed, but insists that he NEEDS to watch the Blackhawks! If you don’t know they are doing fantastic and headed for the playoffs. If I’m right they are only shown on Comcast Sports. Is this true?? Is there any solution for this? Please also updates on any hardware would be great!”
- Sara responds: “If you live in Chicago, you are blacked out of all local teams on the live online viewing options. This includes, NBA, MLB, and NHL. Some will allow you to watch the game after it has occurred but not live if you are in the local viewing area.”
- A question from SoapboxTray: “Does anyone have that book “Don’t Panic – Dinner’s in the Freezer”? Just curious about cooking meals ahead and freezing and how they are.”
- One review, from de: “Have read it and liked the book.Got it from the library. Have made egg bakes from her recipe. She includes instructions for preparing the dinner for the the day you’re cooking as well as freezing the meal you’re fixing.”
Resale shopping
- Debbie says: “I’m a Goodwill shopper and ours (Champaign) doesn’t do the Club Goodwill card or scratch off ticket. Our ‘color’ changes on Sunday or Monday and lasts all week with 50% off. We have 20% for seniors 55+ on Wednesday’s.”
- From Matt: “Good Will also sends you a postcard during the month of your birthday for 25 percent off any purchase.”
- But Debbie replies: “Again, our Goodwill doesn’t do the postcard in your birthday month.”
- Kari O. sheds some light: “There are two different sets of Goodwill’s. One does the club card with all the mentioned discounts and birthday postcard. This is the ‘south east Wisconsin’ group which includes ones all over IL, including Paletine, Lake Zurich, Round Lake, etc. The other Goodwill’s are starting the “Star Card” which will feature similar discounts but not identical. This group includes McHenry and others, I think it’s considered the ‘northern IL’. I just received an email last week about the new star card but deleted it. Which stinks cause it listed all the locations that aren’t SE Wisconsin. Both sets overlap each other, so it’s very confusing. The best way to tell apart is the tags. The ‘south east Wisconsin’ group uses nice color coordinated tags. The northern IL group does not.” She adds: “I prefer the south east Wisconsin group. They’re better prices, higher quality, and less of a ‘warehouse’ feel I think. I go to Round Lake, Mundelien, Lake Zurich, Algonquin and Paletine. All these take the club card.”
- Matt also says: “The St. Charles Savers actually runs better deals than the other thrift stores as usually when you walk in the door they have sign that says “Manager’s Special” and it typically states two different colored tags are 50 percent off.”
- Finally, he adds: “My most recent ValPak has a Savers coupon for 50 percent off clothing, shoes, accessories and bed and bath. It’s good until March 23, 2013.”
Target
- Kevin shares: “The Target Tropicana strawberry bananna was sold out. Refrigerated juices are stocked on Sunday and Thursday morning. Buy 4 Tropicana Farmstand Juice 46 oz $3 Buy 1 Kellogg’s Eggo Waffles $2 Total = $14 Use 4 $1/1 Tropicana Farmstand coupons found in the 3/3 RP Pay $10 Get back a $5 Target Gift Card”
- Tori’s experience: “Actually, the few times I’ve price matched Amazon at Target, they have an ipad at CS and they scan your item and them punch in the number for it and search at their select matching sites (Best Buy is one). If it doesn’t come up, they won’t match, if it does then they will.”

I am in the same boat as the person that is a hugh Hawks fan. I bought the nhl plan for $45 after a 10% discount for using Discover. There are 25 games left in regular season and 4 are on Wgn or Nbc. I get the games the next day and thereafter whenever you want, they are recorded for your viewing. I am very happy with my Roku players in all my rooms and love Netflix streaming….. GL with it, it is well worth the savings.
you don’t need comcast to watch the hawks. we have wowway. you just need to make sure the package you get from the cable company has comcast sportsnet in it……my husband doesn’t miss a game!!!!!!!
Package? I get internet from Comcast but have no Package. What and how much is Wowway? Sounds interesting.
Use this link to get pricing info:

Much cheaper than Comcast, but not available in all areas. Customer service is better as well. Not as many On Demand options. No NFL Network.
Dominick’s Big Cheease (back page last ad)
Bought 10 bags of Kraft Cheeses for .99 each last nite 3/5
Loaded the JFU prior at $1.99 ea, and was not needed.
B1G1 at $1.99 through today or .99 ea. approx $2lb.
Confused with Cheese sale starts/continues 3/7 as it appears the $1.99 B1G1 Sale price is/isn’t valid?
Oh shoot! Yeah the cheese BOGO started Sunday but I didn’t realize the JFU pricing overlapped — it’s only good through tonight. And no it wasn’t on sale for $1.99, you would have had to load the price. Let me post it real quick.
For the Blackhawks games ( or any sport for that matter), I stream the games for free online from firstrow1.eu and then hook my laptop to my tv via hd cord. BE CARE THOUGH! The website is full of scams and ads. It took me a few times to figure out how to get it to work without so many pop ups and to find the “secret” x buttons. So if you aren’t computer savvy, beware or have someone help you. They warn on the main page that regardless of what anything says, nothing needs to be downloaded. Otherwise, it works flawlessly besides the less than perfect picture quality.
Careful with these sites. They aren’t streaming legally to the US, and as you note they have popups and all sorts of junk. I don’t recommend them here, but if you are using them, make sure your virus protection is very good and up to date, and run adware and malware detectors frequently.
Exactly! Thanks for helping clarify. While it works, it’s risky.
TY
To SoapboxTray,
I have both Don’t Panic books and LOVE them! Some of our favorite recipes come from those 2 cookbooks (the soups are my favorite!). Often I end up just making the meal the same day, but I have definitely made ahead and froze meals. The quality is still good! I’m actually thinking of creating a freezer meal prep day with friends. If I do it and you are in the Chicagoland area, I can include you!
THANK YOU! That is so nice of you! I am in Northern Burbs. I still consider it Chicagoland
I just bought the Kindle version book I will see about the other one too I didn’t realize there was another. I just skimmed through it and they seem pretty easy too which is what I was concerned about. Thanks for the positive feedback I am going to try and do 2 meals to freeze this weekend. It is a start!
Can you add one more reader request, please!?
Freind of mine ask me to buy 10 bath towels!
Could anyone give an advaise on any towel deal somewhere?
I don’t buy towels in that quantity for myself. The last time bought a towel was a couple years ago with $10/$10 coupon in Great Indoors. That store is out of business now…
For cheap thin towels try IKEA. (I actually like thin towels).
Kmart has some for $2.50

I’m not sure but I think you get a $5.00 gift card if you spend $50.00 at Kmart this week. Also, there’s a few Kmart’s going out of business, you might want to check those too.
For anyone looking for the Bounty DuraTowel deal, the McHenry Meijer is fully stocked today and it’s the last day for the sale price ($3.26) and the Catalina’s are printing for both Meijer and Bounty DuraTowels too!
Jenniferh – if you ever have to leave in the middle of the movie, because your child was too upset, ask for a refund. I’ve never done it, but when I was at the playground talking about how we left wreck it ralph because my kids were scared and begging us to leave other parents said they will give you your $ back. Kind of makes sense, who is going to try to scam the theater by watching half movies for free. And this way people are more willing to try a movie out, but leave if their child is disturbing others.
I have left the theater before, but it is sooo embarassing! If its a free movie and aimed at kids though…. i feel that many of the adults there are in the same boat and more sympathetic to my plight. i don’t dare bring my 3 year old to a full price movie as i know many people there payed full price and DO NOT want a whiny kid kicking the back of their chair, yelling for more popcorn or taking “potty breaks” every 5 minutes.
free paint coupon also states valid on flat enamel paint only. If I’m correct once enamel paint is on interior walls and then latex paint is then applied over it, the latex paint will peal off. Enamel paint on walls will also show every imperfection of that wall, though it is good for trim, doors, or cabinets.
I bought 4 Oral B Indicator toothbrushes @ 1.74 ea. from Target yesterday, I used two $1/2 Oral B coupons paid $4 and change and received a $5.00 Target gift card. I found 2 more coupons to use today and was told they would only accept one coupon. Manager stepped in and said he would do it this time but not again. The way the coupon reads I should not have had a problem. Or am I wrong?
Target’s official policy says four like manufacturer coupons per household per day. So you were fine. Here:

Has anyone spotted a good deal on Zyrtec 70 ct or larger. Would love to use the nice $10 coupon that is in the 3/3 RP before it expires on Sunday.
The Goodwill in Westchester does do the Club Goodwill card.
