Jewel — Wish Big Win Big holiday game

Jewel is starting a new Wish Big Win Big game tomorrow 10/27. I guess it’s better than last year’s pan thing! Anyway, here’s the deal.

  • Pick up an official game board at the in-store display.
  • “Earn a Game Ticket with qualifying purchases* every time you shop at participating Jewel-Osco locations between October 27, 2011 through February 1, 2012 (while supplies last).” Look on the official rules on their site for exclusions. Also, you can earn three per card per day, not counting bonus items (see below).
  • Open your game ticket for “special coupon offers” and four game markers, which you put on your game board.
  • Earn bonus game tickets when you buy specially tagged products.

Anyway, you can win over $30,000,000 in “prizes and money saving offers.” Including $250,000 cash, dream vacation, vehicles, iPad 2, LED TV and more. So it pretty much looks like McDonald’s Monopoly. I’m planning on winning the $250,00, though, so … ;)

There are a bunch of bonus items in this week’s ad. I’m not listing them all because most are not great prices, and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to buy them just to get a game piece — for example, that 8 oz $2.99 Jewel chunk cheddar cheese. (Store brand cheese is $5.99 for 32 oz at Dom’s and 3/$5.00 at Ultra this week.)

Rachel, it is going to be awesome when you and I both win the $250,000….. I already told my husband that I feel it. I am totally going to win! Hah!

      • Bev says

Somebody should print hard-to-get pieces. I have most all of the pieces, except one in each area. So many of the prizes never are won because the person who has the hard-to-get piece doesn’t know it or throws it out. Somebody should put up a trading site. Two working together could do better. Buy the pieces you need to win, etc. Share the prize–something like that. Google 2011 Jewel-Osco and see how few prizes were won.

  2. Robin says

I liked the pan thing at least you got something (I got ten pans by shopping myself and collecting from others). My problem with this thing is your most likely not going too get anything. The only silver lining so far is the coupons though from the four I recived they are for 25 cent off mostly jewel products(they do have a long exp. date). In my opinion with a lot of the tickets going for the “new” jewel brand and the coupons are for the same thing this seems like an elaborate promotion to get people hooke on the house brand. Another annoying thing the ticket though being given away for a long date are only “while supplies last”.

As a side note I will checking the parking lot, garbage cans, and empty carts for discarded ticktets and coupons. Yes I’m weird like that.

  3. Merri says

I think this is a way to counter Dominicks Deal Match. Keep people buying the products at Jewel and hey you might win something. Even if the prices aren’t that great compared to other stores prices for the same product.

  4. Su Miller says

I actually liked the pan thing too. I only got enough for 1 pan for myself, but at my job we combined and saved up enough to get the whole set and then gave them to a girl as a wedding shower gift.

As for this…Meh. I wasn’t that impressed and it seems like it would take a LONG time and a lot of luck to save up tokens to get anything, other than entries into the $1000 shopping spree drawing (which to me seems like a crock, since you need to send 2 tokens in to them to be entered in the drawing, and only 1 entry per envelope. That will add up given the cost of postage).

  5. John W. says

There’s 135 million game tickets and $4.4 million in prizes (the other $28 million is lousy coupons). So the value is about 3.3 cents per game ticket. That assumes, of course, that you actually collect the tickets and get the prizes (if the prizes aren’t claimed, Jewel doesn’t hand them out). The $1000 prizes are a waste of time and postage, I think. If 60,000 entries are sent in, you’re losing money on average. Has anyone identified which of the collectible tickets are the rare ones? (There will be one rare kind for each prize.)

I gotta agree on the whole $1000 shopping spree mail in entry. The rule about 1 entry per stamped envelope & they defenitly tried to make it difficult with very specific instructions. I am however doing it. I ever doing it. I luckily have the 3×5 flash cards i bought on an amazing sale just by change i needed them, envelopes & stamps. Its funny cuz i never mail anything anymore but bought a book of them to mail my boyfriends mom a mothers day card. I didnt buy the forever stamps of coarse because i thought flower stamps that say love on them were more fitting for the purpose. That was stupid cuz i heard stamp prices are going to increase & i wont go buy the 2 or 3 or whatever price increase amount stamps cuz its a hassle & wilp just use 2 i know the post office counts on that. So i dont mind using my stamps on it. I didnt think they’d increase the price again because it felt like they just did it such a short while ago. I was apparently wrong. But if ur doing it like me have u noticed uv gotten more of the 2nd one? Iv sent out like 7 sets but have

      • Chicago NW suburbs says

Continued… lol im using a smartphone & couldnt scroll down to finish. But iv sent out 7 sets & have about 6 of just thr 2nd one with no matches. I wonder if they printed more of the 1. Or just by change. But what i was thinking is that the fact that its so difficult to enter & most people dont have the supplies or are willing to overlook the cost vs. Odds, that maybe i have a good shot. The less people entering & more i send then better my chances. Thats why im really doing it. I know its kinda stipid but

  6. cass says

I live in the chicago suburbs, and wanted to know if there is anyone in other states that is in need of game pieces that they are missing…kind of like a trade you have some that i need and i have some you need….

I theory is that each state has different game pieces so therefore its almost impossible to win…

I just got 120 new game pieces from a shopping trip today and not a single new game piece that i needed…

let me know if you want to see if its worth it to swap out game pieces

While im glad to hear someone from Chicago won & am glad for that person. Since i live in the Northwest suburbs im thinking why didnt i go there. Statistically speaking it lowers my changes of another big winner happening in my area. There is a lot of jewel-oscos in a short drive from my house. About i can think of at least 6 in a half hours drive time by me. I know that people have won the lottery twice in fact a family in my town did. But although its unlikely i gotta try. When i thinkk of the hundredsof people that probably have them or tossed a potential winner or rare ticket & may never know, i cant beone of them. I know all my family gives me theirs because they dont care to try so theres gotta be a lot like that.

My wife was at the store on Roosevelt (near Ashland) when the person was there claiming the prize–well, talking to the store about how to collect. She got excited and has since stopped deriding me for being interested in this game (I pretty much never participate in this sort of thing).

It was great to hear that someone won, even if it lowers my odds. I’m ok with that. It’s all in good fun.

I’ve won $2 and hope to get somethign nice for christmas with the prize money. lolz.

  8. BK says

    Hi,

I think that I may have some new info to make it a little easier when going through your game pieces. All of the winning game pieces under $5000.00 will be TOGETHER INSIDE ONE TICKET. There will not be a sweepstakes entry in that ticket, just 4 winning game pieces.

I can list all of the rare and super rare ticket numbers for all of the prizes over $5000.00 if anyone is interested and if you do not already know what they are. I am not sure which of the two is “rare” or “super rare” but I do know what to look for.

(I have not read through the whole blog yet but I did just learn about the one ticket winning thing)

Also a gentlemen in his sixties won a $10,000.00 Vacation prize in Moline, Il this week. He chose to take the cash. Apparently the big winners in the game for customers have a choice of the prize or cash equivalent to the total value amount.

They say that the employees do not have that choice.

Jewel’s Win Big promotion is AWFUL! Way too much work for little reward. Piles of tickets, opening them is a pain, no new game pieces after the easy ones are found, the coupons are worthless (who saves $.25 coupons that aren’t cumulative?) The pots and pans in last year’s promotion may have been cheap but the game was easy and at least the prizes were real.

  12. nikole says

I think we should try to match up and split the winnings if we can. Just post ones that ur super close to winning and what pieces u need. Then get together and split prize.
    I need. 1. 50
    2.54
    3. 44
    4. 59
    5. 76

These are all ones that I am missing only that one piece to win the prize. You provide the piece, we split winnings. Anyone else need some key pieces?

  13. Becky M. says

Well I never win but my hubby was hoping we would so he kindly taped EVERY piece we got to the board…we’re still missing a ton!

  14. nikole says

Hi there! I have extra pieces too. Just shoot me a message back of what you’re missing and if I have it, I will mail it to you fast. Also, if you see anyway we could match our pieces up to share a prize, let me know ASAP. These are the ONLY pieces im missing if you have them.

Over 12 million game tickets and 170+ stores in IL alone. It’s like playing the lottery. But I was lucky enough to win an iPad2, so I got with friends, family, and coworkers trying to hunt down that last piece I need for the 50k. Who knowsthough, those tickets may have been distributed and thrown out by a customer.

  17. nikole says

These are the ONLY pieces im missing if you have them. I know…Im missing the same as most but contact me if you want to work anything out.

My mother is A shopaholic and gets about ten game tickets A day. All we won was A few of donuts. I think we are on A wild goose chase. LOL

  19. says

I did some doubles deals in the River North store today and they were giving away triple tickets…and one cashier was just giving them out by the handful. Not sure if all stores are doing this, though. I still have only won donuts, seasoning, and $5!

    • Amanda R. says

Ha! At Grand and State? I hadn’t won anything the entire time, but a cashier gave me a handful on Wednesday and I won 3 donuts in that pile alone! After months of nothing, I was pretty excited :)

      • says

Yep, and that was my lucky store because it was the one where I got the olive oil for the $5 during the first week (which gave me false hope, lol). All in all I got $5, 5 donuts, and 1 seasoning packet. It was fun though!

  20. PATTY says

it will be interesting how many items will be won..i just hope that they post the winners..will be something to see>>>>

    • Ricky says

Don’t count on them posting the winners cuz there was only a handful. How funn, one of the ‘big prize’ winners won almost the first day…. then nothing….. :(

  21. PATTY says

The only thing i won, if you want to look at it that way, was a bigger middle due to the donuts that i won….i also won a 12 pk of soda..oh well…

  22. Lin says

I guess I was really lucky! Besides donuts (which I’ve never redeemed) I won a couple $2 and one $10 off any purchase!

  23. Stacey says

My winnings: one seasoning, one donut, a can of olives and $2. I have made use of some of the .25 Q, tho’! The $2 did not occur until last week, BTW :)

  24. Joe says

The comments on the Facebook page are amusing. Some guy is talking about a class action lawsuit, for what? Cause he didn’t win? LMAO!! I should start one against the Illinois Lottery because I buy scratch tickets every week and I don’t win, lol. People need to realize that winning tickets may have been handed out and thrown away. I have talked to dozens of friends, family and coworkers who have done just that.

  25. Joe says

The only complaint I have with this promotion is how the winning tickets were distributed. But then again, I said before, they might have been given out accordingly and evenly but the lucky customer failed to open up and check it. Oh well. I would play this again though if they brought it back.

  26. PATTY says

YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE WINNING TICKETS BEING THROWN AWAY..WHO REALLY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TICKETS THAT ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WE NEEDED…REALLY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING BUT PLAY AND HOPE YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET ONE OF THE MAJOR PRIZES..I DID NOT..HOWEVER I ENJOYED THE GAME!

  27. Joe says

I’m pretty sure it was more recent than that. http://triblocal.com/barrington/community/stories/2012/01/barrington-woman-celebrates-25000-prize-in-jewel-osco-game/ This article was from 1/31/2012 and her name is listed.

Patty- Some shoppers just don’t think that it’s possible for them to win. Especially the bigger prizes. A lot of people I know had tickets and was just thrown out. A few coworkers told me they received them every time they shopped. Those tickets always ended up in the garbage. I can only imagine what could have been in those game pieces. Oh well…

  28. mari says

I have two rare game pieces. SJ22 for the $25,000 vehicle of choice and SJ12 for the $50,000 vehicle of choice. One of these two pieces might be what you are looking for to claim the prize through
Wednesday, February 15. I am missing SJ26 and SJ15. Those are the other two rare pieces for the cars. Maybe we can combine pieces to be a big winner.
