Rangerdave shares that the freezer for this year’s 2013 Jewel freezer deal is a 5.2 cubic foot Continental chest freezer, and believes this is the model — yes, Sonya confirms.

Rangerdave is right, that is the freezer.
“Finish Automatic Dishwashing Detergent (Store Q. save $5)”-This was just a $5 off coupon not a free coupon. I don’t know why they did that. There were a couple of coupons that just gave $ off while the others said free. And some had a ridiculous amount off like El Monterey Snacks which was up to $9.99. My guess is that they did that so they could reach the $170 off in coupons. But then I’m always looking for a good conspiracy theory.
Is Ultra Foods offering a freezer deal this year? I’m trying to compare deals. Thanks.
Don’t know yet — they have been usually 2-3 weeks after Jewel’s, but generally either don’t announce it in advance or only a few days before.
Ask the manager at Ultra if they will be doing the freezer deal and he said that they will be doing it but not util March!
And you can take those store coupons, stack with manufacturer’s coupons and take them to your local Meijer (that accepts stacked competitor’s store coupons as well as manufacturer’s coupons that is…
)
According to the specs, the freezer has a “defrost drain”. I assume this means it is not a frost free model? Anyone know how often a freezer has to be defrosted, and how much of an inconvenience will this be?
None of the little chest ones have been frost free. I don’t defrost mine often (every couple years maybe?) if a bunch of ice builds up — you just take everything out and unplug it. You can do it with a hairdryer if you’re impatient or just scrape the ice off and refill it, lol. It also gives you a chance to see what is on the bottom
I’m new to Illinois and have really been wanting a chest freezer, but their company’s inability to spell “adjustable” is making me doubt this products quality. Would this be a wise purchase?
Never heard of the brand but would really like the coupons.
Kari O.-I bought our last freezer from Jewel and it was at least 8 yrs old. It has been wonderful. The only reason that we got rid of it was because the lid cracked. We never had a problem in all the years that we had it. The new model has a better constructed lid too and it has a basket and drain. I’m thrilled with it and have already added a few free pizzas that I got with the coupons!
Update – We purchased our freezer on Sunday. I was a bit put off by the fact that it is not frost free, but this model does have a drain and we keep the freezer in the basement so it will be no big deal to hook up a hose and let it drain out into a basement drain. I love this freezer so far! It is just big enough to handle “overflow” from my kitchen freezer, but small enough that I won’t get into trouble with food waste due to forgetting what was in it. The first one we bought had some cosmetic damage on the lid, plus the vent on the back was dented. We brought it back the same day and they gave us a new one no questions asked. Followed the directions for getting it up and running and I already have a bag of chicken breasts and two pizzas in it. Very happy. Can’t beat the price/free food combo!
It said on the manual ” do not install in any location not properly insulated or heated e.g. garage, etc. freezer was not designed to operate in temperature settings below 55 degrees Farenheit.
