    If you prefer TurboTax Deluxe*, so far the best deal I’ve seen is $49.99 at Target. If you have the Red Card it would be $47.49 before tax.

    *The version with 5 Free Federal E-files and one state software download

      I take that back. I just found the download only version (no CD-ROM) on Amazon for $39.99, but there are already complaints that it won’t download with all versions of Windows.

    Why do you pay for tax software?

    I use the free federal e-file from http://turbotax.intuit.com/ (there are other vendors that allow free federal e-file) and also let it calculate my state tax (IL) and then transfer the info for the state to the free state e-file (http://www.revenue.state.il.us/ElectronicServices/Individuals/index.htm)
