Dollar Tree shopping, deals and observations
Posted at 3:19 pm by rachel in dollar tree, shopping tripsNow that Dollar Tree has been accepting coupons for what, three weeks? I thought I’d take Mr. 5 over to the Villa Park store (Roosevelt) to check it out, on the assumption that the dust might have settled a bit. Nope. I had three coupons, which totally threw the cashier for a loop — he pulled everything out of my bag to match it up, read all the coupons 5-6x, then called a manager, who punched them in for him, lol. But other than that, it was all good…
I bought:
2 boxes Dulce de Leche Cheerios, $2.00. Used $1.00/2 printable.
Hefty sandwich bags, $1.00. Used $.55/1 printable. They also had packs of quart bags for $1.00.
Brut deodorant, $1.00. Used $1.00/1 from the 9/9 SS to get this FREE. They also had Brut soap for $1.00, and some people are reporting Brut shaving cream at theirs.
Westsoy organic soy milk, $1.00.
ARMY PLAY SET — not pictured, but the toll for dragging Mr. 5 around the store to take photos. (The other toll being having to visit the picturesque Dollar Tree bathrooms with him!)
Paid $3.73.
A photo tour of other freebies and cheapies
Scotch handheld pop-up tape dispensers with one little thing of tape strips, $1.00. Use $1.00/1 in the 8/5 SS and this is FREE. Dulce de Leche Cheerios, $1.00. Use $1.00/2 printable and they’re $.50.
Bugles, $1.00. Use the formerly-available $.50/1 printable and they’re $.50. Taster’s Choice sticks six-pack, $1.00. Use $.75/2 printable to get two for $1.25, or $.63 each.
Alka-Seltzer + Allergy 48 tablets, $1.00. Use $1.00/1 printable here to get these free. Scotties facial tissue, $1.00. Use $1.00/2 printable and they’re $.50 each.
Curad gauze, $1.00. Use $.50/1 printable to get it for $.50. 5-pack Delimex Taquitos, $1.00. There’s supposed to be $1.00/1 in the 9/9 SS, but I don’t see it in the Trib — anyone?
Libby’s canned veggies, $.79. Use $1.00/4 in the 8/26 RP and they’re $.54 each. Kraft Sizzling Salad Kits, $1.00. My store didn’t have peelies, but some people have found $1.00/1 peelies at theirs!
Colgate MaxFresh toothpaste $1.00. Use $.75/1 printable, if it doesn’t have size restrictions, to get this for $.25.
Hunts diced tomatoes, $1.00. Use $.40/3 in the 9/16 SS. Progresso veggie classics soup, $1.00.Use $1.00/4 in the 9.9 SS and they’re $.75 each.
Crest toothpaste, $1.00. Use $.50/1 in the 8/26 PG to get it for $.50. Bic correction fluid, $1.00. Use $1.00/2 from the 7/29 SS and these are $.50 each.

Stuff I don’t have a coupon for and hope I never will…
If I were in the position that I needed an at-home drug test, I wouldn’t necessarily trust one from the dollar store… then again, if I needed this, I might not have the best judgment.
… And THIS might even look tasty. Get ‘er done!
Stuff that looked like a good deal even without a coupon
I was tempted by the bagel crisps, but could easily eat a bag of these in one sitting, so decided I’d better not!
What deals have you found at your Dollar Tree?
Share here — this was fun, yet random, and I’m pretty sure they’ll have a totally different mix if I go back in another couple of weeks.

Isre a limit of the on the number of coupons you can use in a transaction? I believe I read 2 printables, but what about other coupons from the inserts?
Two printables per transaction. I don’t see other limits, but I would keep transactions small, esp. when they are busy — they can’t scan coupons and are punching everything in manually

LOL at the drug test!
Niki
We will need drugs with all this going on !
haha!!!
Actually, I want to thank Rachel for this deal because I read about it right here at Mash Up Mom. I got 12 boxes of Efferdent for close to free: I had two $1.00 coupons from my local paper and purchased an additional 10 from Coupon DeDe.
So, the Efferdent was free, less 6 cents in tax for each one and 10 cents per coupon at Coupon DeDe.
Total cost: 2 free coupons (in paper) + $1.00 in purchased coupons + $0.72 tax = $1.72 total, versus paying $12.00 regular price at Dollar Tree. (The price in a regular store would have been three or four times that much.)
I love coupons!
Nice! I looked for it at my store but they didn’t have any.
That is an awesome price for NY Bagel Crisps! I love those things and I use them in a oven-fried chicken dish we love over here. And I didn’t see the Delimex coupon at all, not even in the Sun-Times.
I had a tough time with coupons at a Dollar Tree here in Chicago last week. Odd, because this store has been taking coupons for about a year already. I tried to buy 4 bars of soap with (4) $1 qs, and at first they wouldn’t take more than one of my Olay $1 qs—the ol’ “it says one per purchase” misunderstanding. I nicely explained what that meant, and even pointed out the “limit 4 per customer.” Then the cashier called a “manager”, who was very nice, but had to then call another manager. She then told me, nicely, that they couldn’t allow me to get more than two items free (?!!). So I asked if I could use two qs in this transaction, and just ring the other two up separately. She said sure, and also mentioned that they really needed to get the written policy up at the registers, and said she didn’t think it made much sense anyway! No kidding!!!
Good luck to everyone out there trying to use $1 coupons at Dollar Tree!
What do you think of the Dulce de Leche Cheerios? Taste ok or only kids like it kind of cereals?
They tasted like CANDY, lol. The kids loved them — had some with their after school snack to test them out. Way too sweet for my taste.
The Cheerios are so good! Are they close to expiration date or something? I wonder why they’re there… maybe the flavor didn’t work out. I love them though!
LOL Zack, you’re a kid at heart. Expiration date was late Nov., so a couple months out — they had tons of them.
Lol! I am! I just had a giant bowl of the peanut butter ones yesterday… had them from the last awesome Safeway free GM groceries rebate!
I am cracking up with the comment under the drug test! I have seen the pregnancy tests there and wondered… lol…
Apparently, from what I’ve heard, the pregnancy tests work great!
They do! I’ve used them before.
I love the pregnancy tests, though I was able to order just pregnancy strips off of amazon — 25 for like $5. That’s only needed for a crazy pee tester like myself though!
The pregnancy tests at dollar tree are the same ones hospitals use. I know someone who works at a hospital affiliated clinic and they actually buy these when they run out.
The pregnancy tests are very accurate!
I love that Dollar Tree takes coupons now! Every cashier and the manager know me now at my local store. I try and help them out by matching up every coupon to my items on the belt so they don’t have to search through my bags later to make sure I have what’s specified. They do read every coupon carefully 3 or 4 times and then have the manager double check to make sure it’s all good. They are holding firm to their policy of only 2 Internet Printable coupons per transaction. I plan my trips around which 2 IP’s I’m going to use.
My Dollar Tree(Homewood), had Lysol toilet bowl cleaners. Use the $1/2 in the 8/19 SS for $.50 toilet bowl cleaner! They also had the Brut deodorant and bar soap, but no tape pop-up dispensers.
I got the Luigi’s Italian Ice at Dollar Tree today. Used $0.50/1 7/22 RP (exp 9/30). $.50 each! I also got a bunch of the other deals MUM posted- JennyO turkey bacon, Scotch tape pop ups, Brut, Wether’s caramels. V. successful trip!
