I got this flyer in the mail to sign up for CVS Pharmacy & Health Rewards, and finally got around to checking it out. This supersedes their old program, where you automatically got $1.00 ECB for every two prescriptions filled. Now, you must sign up EACH MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY, and it works a little differently — you now have to fill TEN prescriptions to earn the $5.00 ECB, and it looks like you don’t get anything until you hit ten.

Pertinent highlights from their site:

  • Remember, each family member must join to earn, even if you share an ExtraCare® card.
  • The ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards™ program is the only way to earn rewards for your prescription purchases. Any prior prescription rewards program has been replaced by this program.
  • You need a prescription number to sign up online, argh. “No. A prescription number, along with store number, date of birth and ExtraCare card number, is required so that CVS/pharmacy can properly match online users with ExtraCare membership to ensure that earnings and rewards are recorded for the correct person. If you do not have a prescription number, you will be able to join the program in any CVS/pharmacy store starting 2/1/13.”
  • Everyone can join. Rewards cannot be earned for prescriptions purchased in Arkansas, New Jersey or New York; on any prescriptions for controlled substances purchased in Hawaii or Louisiana; or on any prescriptions transferred to a CVS/pharmacy® in Alabama, Mississippi or Oregon.
  • $5 Pharmacy & Health ExtraBucks Rewards will be issued approximately 1 week after every 10 credits have been earned. Rewards will print on the receipt or at the ExtraCare Coupon Center. They’re also available on the ExtraCare Savings & Rewards tab. (You’ll need to have or create a CVS.com account and attach your ExtraCare card to it.)

Oh, this is a royal pain. I don’t have prescriptions for everyone in my family right now, do you? And I really don’t like that you don’t earn anything until you hit ten prescriptions. Why mess with the existing easy-to-use program? :( Anyway, this is your heads up that you’ll need to sign up if you want to keep earning ECB on prescriptions.

Update — I just tried signing up online and it bopped me back to the main screen with no confirmation — I don’t think it went through. Maybe will just sign up in store in Feb.

Sounds like a great reason to switch to Walgreens – which I was planning to do anyway with their $25 per prescription transfer giftcard this week.

LOL. I will not use Walgreens — they’ve messed up my prescriptions too many times and it’s always a hassle — I love my CVS Pharmacy staff, but am not thrilled about this new program. :(

Yes! I thought I was the only one! Walgreens pharmacists have several times given me wrong dosages, wrong medicines, or just not had my prescription when they said they would. For the health of my family, I refuse to have my prescriptions filled at Walgreens.

There was a story on 60 minutes or 20/20 a while back and it reported what percentage of prescriptions were filled incorrectly at all drugstores. It was pretty shocking how many were incorrect.

Since Walgreens had stopped 1/1/12 and still does not accept my insurance, I had to switch and the nearest Pharm is Cvs – I want my Wags back, particularly the staff. What can ya do
