CVS — Green Bag tags WILL be phased out later this year
Posted at 10:37 pm by rachel in announcements, cvsThis is too bad! Some of you have mentioned that cashiers have warned you that CVS will be phasing out their green bag tag program, and it is unfortunately true. Jill Cataldo received a statement today:
CVS/pharmacy will be phasing out the Green Bag Tag program later in 2013 in order to focus on other environmental initiatives which we believe will have a greater impact on our local communities. Specific information on timing and future plans will be announced at a later date. While the Green Bag Tag is no longer for sale in our stores, current cardholders can continue to use their cards until the official end of the program. We will be contacting customers who are actively using the program with more details in the near future.
So you are no longer able to buy new bag tags in store. If you already have a bag tag, however, keep using it to earn $1.00 ECB on every fourth scan until they officially phase it out.

Love using my bagtag. This is a bummer. Not happy.
We actually lost our green tag and tried getting another one at 1 CVS near me that was all out, where they explained CVS was phasing it out. As luck would have it, another CVS near us still had them up at the register, so I tried buying 1. The staff had no idea why it wouldn’t ring up, so she took the cardboard off and scanned the green tag. Lucky day, it was my 4th scan, so instead of charging me $1 for the green tag, they actually paid me $1 ECB to take it. Definitely ymmv on this, but if you see one at the registers, you might try buying 1 still.
Bummer! I’ll still bring in my own bags (because I like them better than the plastic sacks), but it’s a shame I won’t get the credit any more!
I’ve racked up 280 uses ($70!)with that tag. It definitely made me shop CVS more often, but I guess the cost to CVS outweighed that benefit overall.
