What to know at CVS

If you’re new to CVS, ECB stands for “Extra (Care) Bucks.” Here’s what to remember:

  1. ECB are store coupons and can only be used at CVS. They are also tied to your own CVS card, so if you get an ECB or store coupon that prints out at the price scanner or register, it will only work for your card.
  2. Always scan your card at their in-store price scanner, because bonus coupons print out there when you do so. Keep scanning until it says no coupons available, because sometimes it prints more than one set.
  3. Sign up for their ExtraCare emails with your card number and you’ll get a bonus 20% off printable coupon, plus random emailed coupons throughout the year.
  4. At CVS, % off coupons and $/$$ store coupons can be used before any other coupons.
  5. Buy yourself a green bag tag for $.99. Attach it to your reusable bag. Every fourth shopping trip that they scan your tag, you get a bonus $1.00 ECB. (Note: you’ll only get the credit for one trip per card per day.)
  6. ECB always roll, meaning you can use them on any other ECB-generating item and they’ll still generate new ECB.
  7. Limits listed in the ad are per card.
  8. View and print the CVS coupon policy here.

  1. Outlander says:

If you bought those batteries with extra Qs in the package last week, there was $1/1 Q for Bounty I believe.

  2. michelle says:

There is a $2 q for the Listerine deal on coupons.com

  3. michelle says:

Never mind. Its valid on 1L or larger. Sorry ;(

  4. Kim C says:

Am I ready this right that the Bayer A1C Now meter is a $7 money maker?? I wish i knew where i could donate meters because they always seem to be free or money makers!!

    • Ashley says:

Most towns have a pantry who takes them for diabetic residents who have fallen on hard times. I know schaumburg does, they always get a lot :)

  5. pam says:

In which Ss is the visine q? Can’t find it. What does the cover look like?

  6. Tricia P says:

So I went to CVS to do bayer contour and A1C with both coupons that I printed. The clerk at CVS said she cannot take them because they don’t have the 3rd scan bar, the one in the top right corner. Have you hear this before?
Anyone else have this problem? They are a money maker.

    • rachel says:

Not all coupons have those — PDF coupons, for example, don’t. That extra little code is just a unique identifier so that people don’t photocopy coupons, but it’s not always there.

  7. Lilly says:

Stayfree isn’t really free! They are priced at $6.99 at my store and the coupon is valued up to $4.49 max! You still pay $2.50 for two.

  8. Natalie0920 says:

Fyi, I did the Nivea men’s deal and got the $5 ECB, so it is working in Bartlett.

  9. Annette says:

HELP!!! I’ve looked and looked and can’t find the Stayfree coupon. I’ve got 3 different SSs in front of me from Jan 6. PLEASE tell me what the cover looks like and on what page. THANK YOU!!!

    • rachel says:

It’s the one that says Healthy Essentials and has the yellow strip on the top. It’s on the back of the first inside page in between carefree and motrin.

  10. Annette says:

THANK YOU!!! I had to go through the garbage; accidentally threw it out.

  11. Annette says:

I’m back :) Can you explain why the Stayfree B1G1 free deal + the B1G1 free coupon = free? What will the coupon be applied to?

    Thanks!

    • rachel says:

At CVS, you can use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale to get TWO items for free. CVS is giving you one for free. The coupon applies to the one you are buying, and they’ll get reimbursed for the full price of that one by the manufacturer.

      • Annette says:

Got it. Thank you. Just want to make sure I’ve got the story straight just in case I get a hard time. LOVE YOUR SITE. Thank you for all the work you do.

      • Susie says:

The clerk at the Oak Park location (Ridgeland/Madison) wouldn’t let me do this yesterday. He said “yah. Some lady tried to do this earlier and the manager said no” and pointed to the bags behind the counter of her voided purchase items. I just told him to void my BOGO purchases as well and took my BOGO coupons back. Any suggestions for next time if the manager says ‘No” to using BOGO coupons on BOGO products? I had spent nearly $100 on other items and was able to use all the other coupons, just not the BOGO on the BOGO products. Thanks in advance!

        • rachel says:

          Call corporate, try another store.

        • trish says:

Wow, I am shocked! That is my usual store and I have never had a problem with a coupon there, ever. They are always so nice/trusting/cooperative. I used the Stayfree coupon Sunday morning and there was no issue. Maybe that person was trying to use more than one and the cashier misunderstood? Either way, I am sorry to hear this!

    • Charlotte says:

Ok, I need both the overnight as well as the regular ones. Could I do one overnight @$6.99 and one regular @$3.99? Or would the CVS BOGO automatically deduct the smaller amount?

  12. Iris says:

Has anyone done the Aveeno deal? We were all excited last week, but have not seen that excitement today. Are they running at the same price as last week?

    • rachel says:

I don’t think so — there are no prices in the ad but it’s probably ok deal with the small lotions (yet the coupon is not good on those). Anyone tries it, let us know :)

      • Iris says:

Not a good deal. I just came from CVS and verified. The Aveeno went back to regular price. Hopefully Walgreens or Target will have a sale later on before the coupon expires.

    • kate says:

The small Aveeno lotions do not work this week. It excludes these on the tags but I tried it anyway and it didn’t generate an ECB

  13. Kati says:

Help! I tried to find the $2/2 for the Finish Deal in the RP- I checked both and I can not find it? Can someone let me know where it is exactly????

    • rachel says:

It’s in the SmartSource with Lean Cuisine on the cover, about halfway through.

      • Kati says:

I have the $2.15 off one- but on your post it says something about another coupon in the RP- is this coupon available? Please see below:

You could buy eight All for $32.00. Use four $2.00/2 from the 1/6 RP or eight $1.00/1 from the 12/2 RP or some combination thereof. Pay $24.00 with $10 back for a net cost of $14 for 8, or $1.75 each.

  14. Sarah says:

Not quite as good as the 1/6 Smart Source BOGO coupon, but better than the Visine printables: I have seen Visine “Tired Eyes” (in the purple box) at two CVS stores in my area with $4/1 peelies on them. With this week’s sale, that makes the price 99 cents each after coupons and before the $10 back when you spend $30. I haven’t seen the peelies on the other types of Visine. At one store the peelies were right on the front on the row of product, but at the other store, the bottles with the peelies were in the back of the row. I used these last week when the Visine was full price and we got free eye wipes with purchase. This week’s deal is even better, so I guess I’ll have to get more! It’s a product I use fairly regularly, so worth stocking up on it. :)

    • Sarah says:

Quick update: use a $4 peelie in conjunction with a BOGO for the best deal. That way you get $8.99 off, for a net cost of $.99 for two bottles of Visine. I couldn’t do the math earlier when I just posted. Sorry.

  15. Sara says:

The $5 mail in rebate is printing again.

  16. dani says:

kinda late at doing deals this week…been busy. anyway…big oppps…..this deal doesn’t work but my manager at cvs let it go through which was incredibly nice….the coupon is for 70 count or higher….those bottles are 60 count…..

Scenarios: Online, Flintstone vitamins are $8.49 for the 60 count (prices may vary somewhat in store). So buy four at buy one get one 50% off and you’re at $25.47. Use two $5.00/2 from the 1/6 SS, and you’re at $15.47 with $6.00 back for a net cost of $9.47/4, or $2.37 a bottle. Or another idea: online, Citracal + D 120 ct is $13.99. So buy one get one 50% off and you’re at $20.99. Use the $5.00/2 from the 1/6 SS and you’re at $15.99 with $6.00 back for a net cost of $9.99/2, or $5.00 each.

    • rachel says:

Sorry — I didn’t have the coupon in front of me and the database didn’t list restrictions. Instead you could use two of the $2.00/1 from the same insert and the deal is just $1.00 less good.

  17. Sarah says:

I have been looking and looking for the Bayer $5/2, Alca-Seltzer Cold $2/1, and Mitchum Deoderant $1/1 all in the 1/6 SS. Were these in the same SS? I have looked through all five of my inserts at least three times. I am on the West Coast and get the San Francisco Chronicle, so maybe I’m missing these from my paper? I find it strange that all three of these are could be missing. I know I’ve had and used the Mitchum coupon before (that’s the brand I use!) Can someone tell me what the cover of the SS that these were in looks like, just in case?

    • rachel says:

Coupons can vary by region. Here, the Bayer and Mitchum were in the one with Betty Crocker on the front. Looks like Alka-Seltzer also the same one.
