Change Facebook settings — so everyone doesn’t see everything
Posted at 2:35 pm by rachel in advice, apps, facebookA couple of you have been hesitant to use Ibotta and other apps because you don’t want to broadcast everything you buy to your Facebook friends. Kim commented that she was able to go on Facebook and change her settings to avoid this, so here’s how you do it!
First, head over to Facebook and go in your Account Settings from the drop-down menu under the little asterisk thing on the top right, as shown above.
Now, choose “Apps” from the menu on the left-hand side.
Scroll down to the bottom of that page, and click “show all apps.” (By the way — if you want to permanently delete any of these apps, just click the “x” on the right hand side of the screen after each.)
Scroll down to the app you want to change, and click “Edit” on the right-hand side. (If you have trouble finding it in the list, hit Ctrl-F to pop up a search box on the bottom left to search for it on the screen.)
Where it says “Posts on your behalf: Public,” click the drop down arrow and switch to “Only Me.”
Now, click “Close” over on the right-hand side.
Refresh the page (Ctrl-R) and you should see that your selected app now says “Only Me.” This means that only you will see posts it makes to Facebook, and you won’t annoy your friends with the fact that you bought Frosted Flakes at CVS today and got money back from Ibotta.

why don’t you just use a facebook account that isn’t linked to all your friends? I have one set up for my dog that I use for coupons. His “friends” don’t care what I post!
That’s another great option! I found it more of a pain to switch back and forth, so just go in and update the apps every once in a while.
Thank you!
Did this work for other people? I changed the settings to “only me,” and refreshed the page to make sure it was set to “only me” on the Apps page, then closed Facebook. When I posted from Ibotta a few minutes later, it still posted to my friends. I looked at the Apps settings again, and the Ibotta App had changed back to “Friends.” I was able to change the individual post to “Only Me” and I reset the Apps page back to “Only Me,” but I am wondering if every time I try to post from Ibotta it is going to reset itself to “Friends?”
Huh — I’ll let you know the next time I redeem an Ibotta offer.
