Coupons

  • A find from Laura: “Rock the Lunch box http://www.rockthelunchbox.com/get-coupons/ has a 75 cents off coupon for Honest Kids 8 pack juice boxes. Its a bricks coupon. Ibotta also has a $1 rebate on them.”
  • Also from Laura: “There is a coupon for $1 off Pepperidge Farm Brightside Soft Baked Granola bars on coupons.com under zip code 31705. There is also a $1 rebate on Ibotta.”

Jewel

  • From peaches: “I was just at the new Whole Foods store in Evanston tonight. It is a beautiful store. It is much nicer than the Dominick’s that used to be there. They have a wine bar in the store, and they also have a gelato bar there. They were very busy tonight, and after I left there, I drove down to the Jewel store down the street, which was not nearly as busy. Jewel had organic tomatoes on sale for $.99 a pound, and they had organic kale on sale for $.79 a pound, as well as organic strawberries on sale 2/$5, and the strawberries were driscoll. . .”
  • John W shares: “My MyMixx had a Muller corner yogurt coupon, $1 off 3, which makes it 3 for 50 cents as part of the buy 6, get $3 deal. Also a $1.25/2 Mitchell’s 14 oz. ice cream, which are 2/$5 this week.”
  • Jane replies: “My MyMixx has 2- $1/3 coupons, one for the Greek 100’s and the other just says Muller yogurt on it! Thank You for reminding me, because I have been waiting for my BOGO coupon when you sign up for their email but nothing is coming? I am excited about 17c yogurts!”
  • And peaches found: “Kemp’s frozen yogurt is still 2/$6, and I have a $1 off two coupon on mymixx. I did not get the Muller coupon on my mymixx.”
  • Jane asks: “How is the Smuckers natural PB? We are low on PB and wanted to get some for the buy 6 sale. Its either that or Jif Whips for that price this week at Jewel.” $1.49 after instant savings on the buy six save $3.00 sale.
  • Christine replies: “I like the Natural Smuckers, but my kids don’t like the oil on the top and stirring it around. I like the peanut taste and not as sweet.”
  • And from Laura: “Try storing the jar upside down. All the oil will be at the bottom of the jar next time you open it.”
  • If you happen to pick up Smucker’s topping and brownie mix at the Jewel anniversary sale this week, Suzann suggests: “The caramel Smuckers ice cream sauce is very good swirled into chocolate brownies with extra chopped pecans–I call these turtle brownies– when it is that cheap you can be generous( for 13x 9 pan I would use slightly more than half a bottle maybe more now since the sizes are constantly shrinking).”

Restaurants

  • Today was half price cheeseburger today, and Artie shares: “They will be running this same promotion on Thursday August 13 “National Back to School Day”. I have the flyer in front of me.”

Amazon

  • On the free Fire Stick with Ooma purchase deal, Nancy M. asks: “Can you tell me more about the phone service? I have been looking into getting this for my parents. Does it call internationally as well? Pros and cons please from people who have used it. Can they keep their same number they have had for the past 35 years?
    Thanks!!!”
  • Debbie replies: “We just switched over to Ooma after trying it out for about 2 months and have been very happy with it. We did recently port our phone number to this new service. The porting charge is $39, unless you sign up for the premier (an extra service), which we did as we liked all the extra goodies, such as telemarketing/anonymous call blocking, being able to automatically forward calls to a cell phone in case the internet goes down, extra second number, ability to sync with nest (which we don’t have yet), free calls to Canada, ability to get a text and/or email when someone leaves a voice message, etc. There is a long list of features on the Ooma website as well as a comparison between the basic and premier models. We were paying $44 a month with At&t and I think with all the tax charges and the premier service, Ooma will run us about $15 a month. Without the premier service, it was only around $4 a month. (You get a free trial of the premier service when you sign up, but we liked it so decided to go with the premier service)”
  • And on the Expo Dry Erase Markers deal, Wendy suggests: “Buy some extras now, so when the schools are requesting more in january, you have them (for cheap!)”

Furniture

  • Melissa asks: “Looking for places to buy a comfortable, easy to clean sofa. And of course, the lower the price, the better. We have only gotten couches for free
from my parents for the past ten years when they upgrade, but we are out of luck this time and very little in the budget to replace one that has developed a terrible smell because my child got ill on it. I have been looking at Big Lots, Hobo, Bargains in a Box. Are there other places that could offer low price points?”
  • Jaci suggests: “Just like us with the recycled furniture! Craig’s list or even if you have a value city furniture by you?”
  • And an idea from peaches: “Melissa I would check out craigslist for used sofas as well as Goodwill and the Salvation Army. You can also join your local freecycle. People give away sofas fairly frequently. You could also post at freecycle that you are looking for one. Things like that go really fast on freecycle if they are in halfway decent condition. Also try checking out some moving sales this weekend, You could also look at Ikea, but there sofas might be more than what you are willing to pay”

Headaches

  • More on the migraines topic from CarolS-T: “I get cluster headaches which are awful. Drinking lots of water definitely helps – 16 oz every 2 hours. I have also found that 1/2 – 1 oz of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz orange juice every morning helps, too. No science to back this up, just my own experience.”

Hot Dog Day

Jewel

Kohl’s

Office Depot | OfficeMax

  • On the $10 SwissGear backpacks, CMKW shares: “Shipping was free for me, it seems like it is based on the $35 per backpack. I got two and it triggered free shipping. I was unable to use any other coupon codes though.”
  • This is good, because Julie comments on the free store pickup option: “Careful on the store pickup option. I ordered 2 on Sunday, but they only pulled 1 and were out of them by the time I picked them (well, it) up on Monday. Then they substituted another brand for the missing backpack. I got home and realized the brand they substituted was absolute crap, and went back for a refund. Of course, the staff there at the time did not have the authority to make the refund, so they told me to come back at 1:00 when someone would be there who can make the refund. So it basically took me 3 trips and over an hour of time spend in their store to pick up 1/2 of my order and get a refund for the other half, and now I still need another backpack. Had I known all of this before, I would have just paid for shipping.”
  • SoapboxTray comments: “The only other coupon code I was able to use was the free Twizzler with $60 in HP ink, which I needed for work anyway. Tried a bunch of others and it removed the backpack code etc. Thanks for posting!”
  • Julie replies: “Yeah, I looked again today and it looks like they changed things around a bit from Sunday. On Sunday they only counted as $10 each towards shipping, but I was able to enter the 20% off code.”

Target

  • A heads up from Diane: “Don’t run to Target for the free dog treats deal – I am in Wood Dale & they are out anywhere within a 20 mile radius & no rain
    checks”

Valli Produce

  • Some Evanston grand opening deals, from peaches: “At the Evanston store pineapplr is $.98 and a 20 pound bag of Idaho potatoes is $1,49. Bareman Milk is also $1.99 a gallon, but you have to have $25 in purchases. I heard that the crowd was not that bad at the Evanston store today. I don’t think they advertised the grand opening that much, and the store is not easily visible while you are driving down Dempster. The closest Valli store is at least 15 miles away too, and so most people in Evanston aren’t familiar with the chain. When the Mariano’s opened up in April in Skokie it was a zoo at the store the first week.. The other Dominick’s store in Evanston is being converted to a Whole Foods store, and that store in having their grand opening in a week on 7/29. That store is much more visible from the road, and so I expect a large crowd for that opening. That location is going to have a wine bar..”
  • And from John W.: “Also at Valli this week, 1 lb. baby carrots for 89 cents.
The new Evanston store also has a few discounted prices: blueberries and raspberries are 99 cents, sugar and Kellogg’s cereal $1.67, cheap bread and buns for 69 cents.”
