Coupons

Heads up

  • An alert from Debby: “Just wanted to give everyone a head’s up. Just checked my card and found fraudulent charges from Gettington.com Apparently its connected with Fingerhut.com  Someone placed an order for $559.64.  Clearly I would remember that!! I didnt even know who/what they were. My bank is filing a fraud claim and told me to contact the merchant. I did and they were ABSOLUTELY NO HELP at all. They cant find anything in my name-duh. They will not reverse the charges, cancel the order etc.  They claim they cant track it or connect it with just my card info.Only if you call the same day and this was 2 days ago so nothing. Spent over an hour on the phone with three dif departments and no help at all. They really didnt even care. Everyone be on the lookout for this company and check your accounts!!”

Jewel

  • Jane notes: “The Hormel tenderloins are priced at $6.99 lb. then you get the BOGO. If you find ones about a pound each, then after (2) $1/1 printable coupons, you are paying $2.50 a pound. Look for the smallest ones that are close to the same price to get the best price per pound. I may go back to get some because I had to see if the coupons were still here to print and wanted to figure out the price. These are usually way more tender and juicy than the regular pork loins in my opinion. I always seem to overcook/dry out the cheaper HUGE loins!”

Reader deals

  • Meg asks: “Does anyone have a great sale price on eggs ? I need a lot for our get together. Thanks”
  • And peaches responds to yesterday’s question about… peaches. “Mandy was asking about organic peaches. I grew up on a peach farm in Michigan, and it gets too humid in the Midwest to grow peaches organically. All the organic peaches you see are from California. If you go to one of the Chicago area farmer’s markets though, they are going to use less pesticides than any of the commercial growers from California or the South that sell to the stores in the Chicago area such as Jewel. The peaches that are sold at the farmer’s markets are generally picked way riper too, and are going to taste way better. Most grocery stores want peaches that will keep for a week. It is too early to find good peaches at the farmer’s market. The best time to buy peaches at the farmer’s market is from the end of July until the end of August. Red Haven is the variety that is the most commonly grown in Michigan, and that usually starts the beginning of August. There are some other variates that come in August that are just as good as Red Haven, including Blushing Star and All Star. Most growers will let you sample their peaches if you ask them.”
  • And Anne responds to yesterday’s question about Amazon Prime: “Re: Amazon Prime. I don’t know if I get my money’s worth, but find it a time saver. I used to spend a lot of time searching for items to get up to free Super Saver Shipping. Don’t do that anymore. I also like it for almost-last-minute birthday gifts because they have a good selection of specialty toys and games that are HTF at Target & TRU. The free movies & music are a bonus. I like it because it makes my life easier, not because I think I’m saving tons of money or even breaking even on the investment.”
  • In response to yesterday’s question about Dollar Tree pet products, from Christina M.: “A quick Google search should warn you off Sergeant products!”
  • Kim concurs: “Re Sergents dog product, if this is a flea and tick productl like Frontline, do not use it on your dogs, we used a Sergents product some years ago on our 35 pd beagle and he had a horrible reaction-similar to a 2nd or 3rd degree burn, we put it on him before we went out for the night, and came home to horribly distressed dog, we had to wash him in Dawn dishsoap several times before he was okay. Researched it on line many many complaints, can”t believe they can still have this on the shelf if indeed that is the product. Ma!ybe thats why the Dollar Tree has it-Use Frontline, expensive but worth it, go thru Pet Meds online a bit cheaper.”
  • And Suzann has a response to the question on where to get paint: “For paint, I would try an Ace Hardware. They are my go to spot for all my hardware needs rather than a big box store. .the Ace I go to has a huge housewares department and sign up for their emails to get special offers.”

Schnucks

  • Cori shares: “Schnucks in DeKalb has some Cover Girl make-up on clearance. Lipstick is priced at $2.00 – so get 2 free when you use the $4 off 2 PG coupon from 7/5. Also, mascara is priced at $4.00, so only $1.00 with the $3 PG coupon from 7/5. They have it on the end cap of the make-up aisle.”

School Supplies

  • Liz notes on the school supplies deals roundup: “24 pack pre-sharpened Ticonderoga yellow #2 pencils at Staples is actually 24 pack Ticonderoga yellow #2 pencils OR 18 pack pre-sharpened Ticonderoga yellow #2 pencils. You can get a better deal price matching these two from Office Depot/Max at Staples with the 110% price match guarantee. 5 pack Sharpies. 2 pack PaperMate clear point mechanical pencils. With price match the sharpies are $0.90 (110% of the difference between $2.00 and $1.00) and the mechanical pencils are $0.40 (110% of the difference between $7.00 and $1.00)”

Target

  • S Joy shares: “SavingStar has Save $5.00 when you spend $20.00 on any of the following Unilever® products: Simple®, Noxzema®, Pond’s® and St. Ives® facial products including: cleansers, scrubs, wipes, and moisturizers (excludes trial and travel sizes) AND Save $1.00 when you buy any ONE (1) Ponds® towelettes or Noxema® product. And Target has $5 gift card when you by 4 of Noxema, Pods, St. Ives and Simple facial products. There are a ton of things to do with this, but I just did: Buy 8 Noxema Anti-Blemish Pads (90 ct)  at 3.99 each for 31.92. Get $10 in gift cards. Get $6 from SavingStar. 8 for 15.92= 1.99 each. Can do same thing with Ponds towelettes, St. Ives facial scrub, etc. etc. Lots of options!”
  • And on the Clorox dust wipes people were having trouble finding at $1.34, Kelly says: “Actually today, I bought the Clorox Dust Wipes at the Wheaton Target for $1.20! The shelf price was $1.34. Both coupons came off at full value ($1.25 each) so I made .05 cents on each one. And I already got my $2 back from Snap. So $2.10 mm for me. I did notice there was a larger, slightly different pack of Dust Wipes next to these for $2, I think. Maybe some stores sell those only, thus the higher price.”
  • A heads up from Diane on today’s Black Friday in July sale: “I got all excited when I saw this – was looking at a 32″ Samsung TV, which was $239.99, supposedly reduced by $80. Then I did a google search & found the same TV elsewhere for the same price or a few bucks less, so buyer do research!”
  • But Suzann notes that: “That is one heck of a deal on the KitchenAid mixer. I upgraded to this mixer from the smaller size and thought $249 was a great deal.”

Tony’s

  • A correction to yesterday’s deal from letsshop: “Countryside [update: actually Bridgeview] Tony’s has Krakus $2.99 # so w/$1 coupon some real cheap ham (:”

Amazon

  • Deanna has an addition to today’s Five Kindle Freebies list: “A free one I’ve read that I really enjoyed – a new twist on romance genre”
  • And Jaci is wondering: “Do you guys feel you get your investment back on prime? I keep going back and forth on whether or not to sign up for it. Certain things you get straight from there instead of bothering with the stores for it.”

Paint

  • On yesterday’s paint question, Cheryl replies: “Menards marks down paint to 5.00 a gallon or 15.00 for a 5 gallon can . These would be colors that someone was unhappy with for whatever reason. They would be in a back corner of the paint department.”
  • And Minxy says: “I think Behr paint from Home Depot has great coverage and colors are true to samples (I’ve used that and Benjamin Moore). They’ve had $5 off a gallon around Memorial Day and Labor Day for the past few years. They just had a special of a rebate savings of $10 off one-gallon cans and $40 off five-gallon pails, but that ended on 7/6.”
  • Another idea from feelgood: “For Martha looking for paint, Sherwin Williams will have a 40% off promotion July 17-21. You can also get a $10 off $50 coupon by texting COLOR to 27579 or by joining Paint Perks here: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/special-offers/preferred-customer/

Reader requests

  • Charlotte asks on Facebook: “Does anyone have any experience with the Sergeant’s Bansect from Dollar Tree? I saw it today, and I was tempted to get some for our dogs… but want to research it first.”
  • Mandy is wondering: “Don, where are you finding good Organic peaches? I love peaches, but, even the O ones in the grocers I go to are not the sweet, juicy wonderful fruits we used to get. We even tried the local farmers markets, but, most said they weren’t really organic and they weren’t terrific either. Of course the price was way up there, which I don’t mind, except they just were not worth it.”

Target

  • If you’re still out shopping tonight, Tori comments: “It may be late for this, but if anyone has the ‘This Way To Summer Savings’ Target coupon booklets that have been floating around at the customer service desks, you can get a great deal on Magnum bars. There’s a $1/1 Magnum Target coupon in the booklet, and you can price match Ultra’s $1.99 price (today is the last day) for .99 Magnum bars.”
  • On the Nivea body wash deal, seachicago points out: “Nice! Coupon says “limit 4 identical”, so not those stingy “limit 1 per customer” coupons that Target often has!”

Tony’s

  • A weekly deals addition from letsshop: “Countryside [update: Bridgeview] Tony’s has Krakus $2.99 # so w/$1 coupon some real cheap ham (:”
