Gift Cards

  • Susan has a comment onthe Spa Finder Gift Card Promo, “Costco has 2 $50 cards for $79.99
  • Brandy says, “Finally took advantage of the 20% off gift cards (Amazon and others) at Thornton’s. The one on 63rd in Woodridge had at least 10 Amazon cards on the display. I bought one… deal says 1 per customer even though I know others have purchased more. Also signed up for a rewards gas card and got $.10 off per gallon (for 3 months apparently), so paid $2.49/gal!! Thanks.”

Heads Up!

  • Lynn sent a comment,” I may be the last one to know this, but  I discovered today that some Amazon Lightening Deals also have other promotions that compute on the PRE-DEAL (regular Amazon) price.  As an example, I bought a men’s jacket normally $78 on lightening deal for $24.99.  I noticed on the item description page that there was a 30% off promotion when you entered a code at checkout.  I entered that code at checkout and it took off another $23.40 (30% of $78).  The net cost was $1.59 shipped.  I thought they might cancel my order, but it has shipped and my card charged $1.59. I’ve tried this on several other items and the math works the same way, although typically the discount is not quite so dramatic.”
  • Rebecca, “Not sure if this has been noted yet, but the Stride Rite store at Oak Brook Mall is closing in 2 weeks. All inventory is 70% off, even off of already reduced prices. It’s a bit of a jumble but the employees are super helpful. For $95, I scored 10 pairs of shoes, including KEEN, MERRILL, and SAUCONY that retail for $60+. There is a HUGE amount of infant/toddler sizes, a lot of boots. The boys’ section had mostly larger (kid 1-4) sizes but some 9-10-12 toddler too.”
  • Julie has some comments on the Crayola deal at Target, “FYI – the BOGO 50% mix and match is a mess with Crayola.  The print ads and in store signage do not include Crayola, but the online site does.  The prices online for the 1 or 2 items I was interested in were higher than in store, but out of stock online.  I tried working it out at customer service, but the gal working the desk yesterday dais that Crayola must have been a separate BOGO sale.  If you go to the BOGO sale on target.com however, it shows all the Crayola items in with the Nerf, Barbie, etc.  I printed out the page with the item I’m looking for mixed and matches with all the other brands and will see if it works.  If so, Crayola also has a 30% off cartwheel to make things even better.”

Legos

  • Maria has a tip on finding Lego storage, “For those who thrift, I’ve seen these at Goodwill a few times. Usually priced between $4.99-$14.99, depending on the condition and which location. I got a pair for $4.99 each and they were perfect. So, if you’re patient – keep your eyes peeled. ;)
  • Julie also a suggestion where to find storage, “Menards had a 10 drawer one that looks identical to the right half of the one pictured above for $20 on Black Friday weekend.  If interested, you might check your local Menards for a cheaper option if they have any left.”
  • Another source from Elizabeth, “i have seen similar ones at Joann’s fabrics as well.”
  • From Meg, “These come up on Amazon Lightning Deals for around $25 and I have gotten the one that is half the size at Michael’s with a 40% off coupon.  That being said, I would recommend not wasting your money.  The drawers do not stay in the guides and you end up with a stack of drawers on the floor.  We use ours for craft and art supply storage and I’m constantly swearing at it.”
  • From Bob, “they have them on sale at menards also”
  • Kathryn comments, “I didn’t have good luck with these…the drawers come out too easily and don’t stay even.”
  • San reports, “That’s sooo expensive and not the greatest quality. Every year I see a fellow teacher throw hers out.
  • On the Lego Minecraft Enderdragon, Julie says “Toys R US usually does a B1G1 50% a week or 2 before christmas. I’m holing out and hoping they will this year as well.”

Mariano’s

  • Don has some Mariano’s Deals, “Shorewood store has several specials, specific to their store. They have coupon books in store with $5/$50 limit 1 and same book has Perdue s/b breast $1.68 so $1.50/lb after spending 50 with coupon. My 1st stop in store was to show the front desk manager a print of their ad showing the milk and asked if he will honor the $3.50 for a full gallon and he said absolutely, when cashier asked I advised her of that and had no problems. BTW, I had the produce guy bring out more potebello mushrooms and they were really really nice and fresh…. the c/s at this store is top notch…..”

Meijer

  • Janelle sent this deal, “Meijer is having a fantastic sale on fine jewelry (12/10 & 12/11) for 2 days only. Everything is 70% off with another 10% taken off at the register. Add the Santa Bucks on top of that and you can score some amazing jewelry very cheap. I purchased a $200 necklace for $44 last night. :) Today is the last day.”
  • Maria comments on the Free Colgate Toothbrush, “Last night stopped at the Niles store and no toothbrushes.  Went to Customer Service hoping to get a raincheck and they told me to go pick out a Meijer toothbrush as a substitute.

  • Kelly answers, “On the Borsin garlic and herb cheese, if I remember correctly, it’s similar to a whipped Philadelphia garlic and herb cream cheese.”

Apps

  • Evelyn noticed: “Jingit now shows that it’s available for meijer, lowes and home depot!”
  • Krystle comments: “Jennie O Oven ready turkey reset for me, so $3.99 turkey breast at Jewel (after $1 MFG, and $5 checkout51). Just wish Ibotta reset as well :)”
  • Allison posts on Facebook: “Free Met-Rx Gummies at Walmart with Shopmium rebate. Limit 5″ Use code GMEFHHTP on signup to unlock a welcome offer for 100% back on a Lindt bar.

Amazon

Dollar General

  • A heads up from Jane: “Update on Libby’s deal: I read on another blog (couponaholic.net) that if you use a coupon on the 3/$1 price, it will not give you that sale price and adjusts it to a higher price. I feared this would happen since I have had many ongoing issues there so I decided to price match at Target or Walmart. My Target doesn’t carry Libby’s brand so I headed to Walmart where they do and are actually 50c each on sale. They did ask to see my ad to verify the brand and then I got 32 cans for 8.3c each after the deal! I also found another zip code to use to print another set of coupons (10001) With 2 computers, I was able to print 8 coupons. Happy husband putting his cans in the basement for his stockpile and noticed the dates on cans were 12-2017. Awesome deal!”

Fresh Thyme

  • Nancy M. shares: “Fresh Thyme had avocados 3 for $1″

Garden Fresh

  • Alice found: “Garden Fresh has 5ct or so bags (avocados) $1″

Groupon

  • Samantha shares: “I decided that the Timber Ridge was a really good deal…. Thank you for posting!! I’m staying a Sat. and Sun. night and it works out to $150 a night with all fees and taxes! I wanted to stay a Thursday night because on Friday mornings in Dec. they have a Thomas the Train show over at the Grand Geneva but couldn’t get to work with our schedules. I would suggest checking out the Holiday activities and makes it an even better deal in my opinion.”
  • Amanda posts in Hot Deals: “Going along with the tea theme I found this deal on groupon for only $10.” And today only use code SAVE for 10% off.

Home Depot

Meijer

  • Thoughts from feelgood on Campbell’s: “That’s an interesting question, Meijer VERY rarely has mPerks that stack like this one ($1.00 off every four). I plan to also bring the $1.00/5 printables and use self-serve checkout. After scanning four soups, I’ll see if the $1.00 mPerks comes off. If it does, I’ll scan four more and pay. If it doesn’t, I’ll scan just two more and use the $1.00/5 printable before paying.” I have noticed them more and more frequently. In my experience, they have come off of each item, just like they say they will :).

Online deals

  • DON likes the Finish Line college sweats: “These are great – we purchased and received 2 a few weeks ago and I am quite impressed with the quality”
  • An idea from Kate: “Feeling generous? My local homeless transitional center is always looking for all of these things to provide someone just moving into a permanent residence.”
  • Amy likes the Disney blankets: “I got these last year and they made great gifts for friends kiddos, such a good deal!” I agree. I got one for my kiddo two years ago and she still uses every night! I actually am considering getting a second for her to take to “school.”

Reader requests

  • Karen is wondering: “Does anyone recommend a tree farm in Chicago to cut down your own tree at reasonable prices?”
  • From Jesse in Hot Deals: “I would love to purchase a kitchenaid for christmas as a gift, but they’re always so expensive… I’m hoping there is or will be an amazing deal someone knows about? Thank you!!” An addition: “or maybe a similar mixer with another brand? I know I saw one Walmart has for $20 (Hamilton Beach) but it is a lot more simpler.”
  • Rosemary’s advice: “My opinion is that no other brand will compare to a Kitchenaid. But here’s something I learned: a couple of years ago my old mixer started leaking oil. Instead of paying to get it repaired, I ordered a new Kitchenaid from QVC because it seemed like a great deal. I could tell right away the quality was not up to par with the older one, so I called Kitchenaid. What I found out was that they make a line exclusively for QVC which is not of the same quality as what you can buy in the store. That’s why they’re cheaper. I sent it back.”
  • Jane asks: “This is even a better deal than the BOGO coupon we had last week to print for this sale. Please tell me Walgreens does not have a problem with the word Walmart on the coupon. I never know how they will be, anyone know the policy? Thanks.”

Strack & Van Til

  • From Sharon: “I went to Stracks in Crown Point tonight. I took the ad from Meijer (this past Sunday) and price matched the Butterball Turkey for .89 /lb. I believe the tagged price was 1.99 per pound. I also wanted to get a ham, I feed 40 people at Thanksgiving, lol. Ron, the manager, told me that I had to spend 25.00 in order to get one ham and one turkey for the discounted price. I bought the Butterball, .89/lb, used the 6.00 off Stracks Q, then stacked it with the Butterball and two items Q from 11/9 SS. The Betty Crocker potatoes are on sale (which is one of the items in the Butterball Q) for .99, I used the 50/2 in the 10/26SS, then also bought a few Pillbsbury Pie Crust 1.49 (when you buy6) and used the Q from………….urg, forgot which. I like the Pillsbury, it is much flakier that the Aldi brand, and for 1.25, sure thing! I stocked up. Long story short, they will let you stack the 6.00 off Stracks and the 3.00 Butterball! Yay! But, have the ad with you If you don’t have the Meijer ad, Wise Way has the ad for Butterball at .99/lb.”
  • She adds: “Follow up to the above: I still have one more ham and one more turkey to get, but I rec’d another ad for Stracks in the newspaper today…….meaning, I have one more 6.00 Q from Stracks! But now I have to buy 25.00 more to get that price………………Hills Bros Coffee at 5.99 with 1.00 off Q? I think so! I’ll stock up on that for the winter ;)”

Target

  • A Coffee-Mate report from focadima: “Bliss is included”

Thornton’s

  • Tori shares: “No Amazon [gift cards] in Plainfield, they said they don’t carry Amazon. But I did get Bass Pro Shop and Wendy’s. They also had Chili’s, Applebee’s, Burger King, Cabela’s, itunes, xbox, Cracker Barrel, and a few others.”

Ultra Foods

  • Mandy reports: “I was hoping the Kraft cheese catalina deal running until 11-30-14 at Meijer was also working at Ultra. NOT! So, if anyone else was wondering, I shopped at Ultra today and bought 5 Kraft cheese, and no CAT.”
  • From amy: “Found tear pads at Ultra in Wheaton. $2/2 Kraft Cheese or Dairy Products. I was able to get the Kraft shredded and chunk cheese for $.88 when I bought 6 of them. Coupons expire 11/30.” Be careful, I found some similar coupons at Caputo’s but they were for produce wyb Kraft products.
