Anti Virus

  • A suggestion from Suzann: “For ant-virus, I have been using the AVG product(avg.com). I use the free version and they put out free updates. The DH reads the tech blog askbob.com and that is how we found the product. I have read is so many places that Norton is considered bloatware.”
  • A follow-up from jane: “We have used the paid version of AVG for many years and really like it. I had forgotten there was a free version, too. I just read the CNET review and it is very good!”
  • Jennifer suggests: “for free antivirus programs and lots of other things go to www.filehippo.com we use malwarebytes anti-malware and cccleaner for spyware. there are lots of choices, dont pay for premium versions, they have free stuff and our family has a computer business that makes its life out of cleaning computers with norton antivirus. lol”

Apps

  • Liz comments: “For the snap app…i haven’t had the problem of disappearing offers but I will usually confirm and check in store by opening the app up..and I will scan the receipt in the parking lot after buying it so there is a 5 minute gap. I scan them right away so I don’t lose receipts.”

Coupons

Meijer

flatmeijer

  • A question from San: “Rachel how would this work at Meijers. Its buy one get one free plus I have the manufacture coupon that buy one get one free?” Don’t think you can use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale at Meijer, but I don’t shop there since I don’t have one nearby — anyone?

Reader requests

  • A question from llz A: “does anyone know where pledge is on sale?”
  • A response to the Mrs. Tea Pot question from yesterday, from a nameless reader: “Re: Joe and Mrs. Tea Pot. You could use a Mr. Coffee pot or any other drip machine to brew loose leaf teas. I use a coffee filter in my Bunn and then add Twinning’s Loose leaf tea to suit my tastes which are rather strong. Or you can simply put bags of teas in a filter which will slow down the brewing enough to prevent weak tea, or finally, you can place tea bags in the glass pot and just let the hot water pour over the bags. “
  • And another tea suggestion from Artie: “I’ve seen teapots at the Wilton Tent Sale in years past. The Wilton Tent Sale, which is held in Woodridge, Illinois, is a popular event for cake decorators and crafters. This year’s Wilton Tent Sale will offer amazing deals on a wide selection of Wilton cake decorating and baking supplies as well as kitchen and paper craft products from Copco, EK Success Brands and K & Company. Located At: 2240 W. 75th Street, Woodridge, IL 60517. Hours of Operation: Doors will open May 29th, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Mon – Fri 9:00 am – 8:00 pm. Sat & Sun 8:00 am – 6:00 pm”
  • And Stephanie suggests: “Try looking at Salvation Army for iced tea makers. My mother-in-law knocked my pitcher off the kitchen counter last summer and cracked it. I went looking for just a replacement pitcher and found an entire unit & pitcher/lids for $5! Mine is Mr. Coffee brand.”
  • A question from jane: “Does anyone have advice/tricks to keep neighborhood cats out of the garden?”
  • And Jennifer asks: “… a while back someone posted on this page a link to order contacts online without a prescription.  Do you happen to have that link still?” Anyone?

Rebates

  • Jadeyzma had a better Smirnoff rebate experience: “To whoever commented earlier in the week about the Smirnoff Rebate check bouncing at Chase. I deposited my $60 rebate check at the beginning of the week and it cleared with no issues (My bank is also Chase).”

Reward programs

  • Shirley shares: “I received an email from Kellogg’s rewards: Get 100 BONUS POINTS each time you enter a code from Mother’s® Cookies and Rice Krispies® cereal until 5/18/15.”

American Express

  • A heads up from feelgood: “For those with American Express credit cards, check “My Offers” at the bottom of your online account. Each of my cards had “Spend $20 or more, get $20 back” at Sam’s Club for online purchases.”

Caputo’s

Coupons

  • A heads up on the upcoming Blue Bunny coupon from theresa: “Still showing Jewel in this lookup, but our Jewel has now put Friendly ice cream in and Blue Bunny was not anywhere”

CVS

  • Confirmation from ellen that the $3.00 ECB are still printing when you buy three $.99 cards: “just did this deal. 3pm wednesday”
  • Heads up from Eun: “I just bought 2 of the Nivea tins and no $5 ECB. It may be dead now.”

Eurofresh

Meijer

  • Some price updates from feelgood for this week’s instant savings deals: “Checked the price of Pantene yesterday to plan for this sale. Shampoos are $3.79, Stylers are $4.19. Plan to get six per transaction. Another 5% off one-time with the Fri/Sat mPerks. Also checked the price for Suave shampoos. Big 20-some oz bottles $1.50 each, so $.50 each after instant when you buy two. Suave Professionals tagged $1.99, so $.99 each after instant.”

Menards

  • A grass seed suggestion from Don: “Jane, I like the natures finest brand grass seed from Menards and through Saturday they are on sale/rebate – a 5 pound bag is 9.99 and offer a Menards $3 rebate…… I have been using this seed for years and like both choices – Northern or Thick n hardy – hope that helps”

Rebates

  • Catherine also had trouble with the Smirnoff rebate: “I also had a problem with the Smirnoff rebate. I received $15 when it should have been $60. I called them and they looked it up and said they would send the other $45 in another check.”

Sales

Sweepstakes

  • Did you enter the Jane sweeps yet? Connie points out: “You can enter your code every 12 hours for lots of extra entries! With four days left, that’s almost 50 extra entries.”

Target

  • From Pookie: “Huggies wipes are still working has to be the correct ones, if they didn’t print something was wrong. Make sure the machine is on before you try or return and rebuy at a different register.”
  • And pam has an alternate plan for using the Catalinas: “I’ve read a lot of reports of people having trouble using the Huggie’s Catalinas (that are printing at Target) at Target. I don’t think Target is accustomed to these type of cats that are OYNO. Instead of trying to deal with that headache, I was able to successfully use mine at Ultra Foods today! This is according to Ultra’s policy, which you can find online.  The $10 one (I  believe) scanned on it’s own, the $5 gave a problem and had to be manually entered.”

Walmart

  • Here’s a find and a suggestion from Suzann: “Wal Mart is having a price rollback on the Fruit of the Loom short sleeve 100% cotton tees(men’s dept.) for $3.58 each. They are so basic and come in about 25 colors–I have been buying these for myself for several years. In the women’s dept. everything is fashion, not your basics and way more expensive.”

Rebates

  • If you, like feelgood, had trouble with the Seagram’s rebate a while back — you’re not alone. From April: “To feelgood, I had same expirience a few years ago with rebate from Staples and Chase bank. I deposited rebate for about $6 and it’s bounced. Chase charged me returned check fee, don’t remember how much it was. I had to straighten out it with customer service. Chase reverced charges after conversation. I also calles Staples rebate center and they promised to mail another rebate, but I have never got it. So it seems to me that maybe Chase bank is a common denominator here. Anyway it’s a lot of headache, sorry.”
  • Sarah had a different problem: “For the Smirnoff rebate…I recieved a postcard that my rebate was not valid stating my rebate form was only valid in Washington?! I picked up my rebate at Jewel! I called and the person on the phone said she would have a manager review it. That was two weeks ago. I’ve heard nothing.”
  • And ellen had yet another problem: “my daughter got her rebate but it was for $40.00 instead of the $60 she was promised. I don’t know if she deposited it yet. she banks at chase too”

Target

  • Considering the sale Fitbit Flex? From lynn: “I’ve had one for about a year and it definitely motivates me to move more. I find it to be quite accurate and the charge lasts a good while. I would like it more if I had the very expensive Tory Burch bracelet for it, but overall, I’m quite pleased :-). I can’t compare to other products though, as I’ve not used any. HTH”
  • Connie also likes hers: “Ive got a Flex and I love it. Its a visusl reminder to me to stay on the right path, and the fun little celebration when you hit your daily goal is great! I got mine at Costco with the extra bracelets so I can change colors whenever II want.”
  • And Cari likes hers, too: “I love my Fit Bit Flex as well. I have it synced with a lot of aps. If I had the money I would upgrade to the one that tracks heart rate but I am really happy with my flex!!”
  • If you still have the high value Purina Purpose coupons, Jane comments: “I bought 2 of the listed codes for the Huggies wipes this morning at Target in Bradley and did NOT get a Catalina. I did finally find 2 of the Purina Purpose cat litters in stock and was able to use that high value $10/2 manuf. coupon on them AND they are now generating a $10 Catalina on 2 boxes! It is listed on the shelf as well.”

It gets bigger and better every year; they had to move it to the Schaumburg Renaissance two years ago because it keeps growing. My hubby, son, and I all LOVE it; thus, I’m sad we’re going to be out-of-town during the event this year. It’s always on Father’s Day week-end. We’ve been the last five years. The original creations on display are made by LEGO fans of ALL ages from all over the world. LEGO has later taken and turned some of the creative ideas into actual sets. This event includes displays, contests, stop motion LEGO movies, vendors, etc. It is well worth the visit! Happy building!”
