Have you guys seen these new Brew Over Ice K-Cups, for your summer single serve sipping? I had the opportunity to try the lemonade at BlogHer (too sweet for me, but as always, will depend on your tastes), and they just sent over a couple more samples for review — and a giveaway for one of you!
So these work just like the regular hot brew K-Cups you might be used to, except you brew right over a big cup full of ice to make iced coffee, tea, or other cold drinks. Use a large 16 oz cup (no glass!), since this filled the icy tumbler all the way to the top. I headed over to MashupDad’s office to test these out, since we don’t have a Keurig or other single serve brewer at home.
His coworkers proved to be very willing guinea pigs! Over on the right, he’s sipping a refreshing Donut House Collection Sweet & Creamy regular iced coffee. On the left, they’re enjoying Vitamin Burst Acai Berry iced fruit brew. The interesting thing about these is that they come with all the sugar and flavoring included — the coffee, for instance, included sugar, coffee, and creamer right in the K-Cup itself. So you just brew straight over the ice and drink without having to add any extras.
And the verdict?
We did find that none of the flavors ended up cold enough for any of our taste testers’ preferences, and that the ice in the tumbler melted almost immediately. So, we had to re-divide these into smaller cups and add more ice. Everyone got a taste of: Donut House Collection Sweet & Creamy regular iced coffee, Vitamin Burst Acai Berry iced fruit brew, and Snapple Peach Iced tea. The coffee was a hit for those who like their coffee very sweet. The peach iced tea had a very nice peach smell and tasted more like fruit than like tea. The iced fruit brew had a kind of medicinal smell (likely because of the added vitamins — it contains Vitamin C, B3, D-Calcium, B5, B6, and B12), but the taste was definitely fruity, and much like that of other vitamin drinks.
