Today while we were out and about, I thought we’d stop by ALDI for cheap blueberries. Yeah. Guess what the warehouse was apparently out of, so no delivery today? Hopefully later in the week, lol.

BUT, I picked up the sneak peek of next week’s ad while I was in the store, and guess what? Next week (starting 1/9), SimplyNature is back in stores! Remember back in the fall they ran these natural and organic foods as a special buy to see how they’d do, and then they said they’d be back in January? Well: Yup! :) They’re also listing 16 oz bags of gluten free chicken nuggets for $4.99 — and if you’ve ever priced gluten free chicken nuggets, you know this is good.

Those are some good prices! I can’t wait to check the ingredients on the 32 oz yogurt, wonder about the sugar content. My store was out if blueberries this weekend too so must be a big issue.

  2. Megan says:

Glen Ellyn store has blueberries. I got some this afternoon.

    Great news about Simply Nature!

  3. Cara says:

Has anyone tried any of the SimplyNature products? Any good?

    • rachel says:

The apple juice is good, and the pasta sauce tastes like regular jarred pasta sauce — maybe one step up from Ragu. Haven’t tried anything else, but it also looks like they have added more items since the fall trial, so will see.

Do u happen to know if the nuggets are dairy free too? I tried to enlarge the pic, but can’t tell. If they are, I am so excited!!!!

    • rachel says:

I am sure hoping so! I can’t tell from the picture in the ad either, it doesn’t say, and I don’t think this is something they have carried in the past — I’ve never seen them there!

    • Susan C. says:

I am hoping they will also be soy free. My son is on meds that can be fatal if he consumes soy. I spent a better part of today calling manufacturer’s to clarify the ingredients of products we already have in our pantry. I can’t believe how many products have soy, soy isolate, etc. in them!

I had switched to organic food recently and realized that you really have to do your research on different brands and what they add to their products, to make sure you’re really getting only good stuff in your food….

My Aldi had the organic toasted oats, regular and honey out yesterday. I bought a few boxes, excited that it was so cheap,
at home noticed a few weird ingredients listed as added minerals and vitamins that I wasn’t sure of, so I looked them up and here is what I found:

Ferric orthophosphate: can be implemented to treat nose bleeds and reduce the risk of hemorrhages. And since it is a form of Iron III, it can sometimes be used as a nutritional supplement. In addition, ferric orthophosphate does not cause rancidity in food. Overall, this substance is a form of iron supplement which is regarded as safe; however, consuming more than the recommended dosage can be unsafe, especially for children. On another health note, in 2007, ferric orthophosphate was prohibited from use as a food ingredient in the European Union in directive 2002/46/EC.

    Sodium ascorbate:
While sodium ascorbate is relatively safe, its extensive intake may lead to several side-effects. The common side-effects that persist or become troublesome when using sodium ascorbate, especially in a liquid form as injections, include burning, stinging, pain, or swelling at the injection site. Severe allergic reactions include rash; itching; difficult breathing; hives; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; bone pain; muscle weakness; severe or persistent diarrhea; mental or mood changes.[7]

Pyridoxine hydrochloride – bad in high doses

Thiamine mononitrate: is synthetic and has the potential to illicit mild to severe allergic reactions.

None of my other organic cereals have these listed…..

I just don’t get how products are allowed to be “Organic” if it has those harmful ingredients in them? Yep, you really have to be careful with the word organic. Is it organic or not???? Companies are so MISLEADING and will fool and trick you!

  7. Claudia517 says:

Love it that Aldi is making organics affordable. I just don’t think I will ever be willing to pay $10. for a gallon of milk, organic or not.

    • yvette says:

I used to think that way too, until I started doing a lot of research on this and realized that the regular food isn’t really food….
