Jewel fav 4 and Kellogg’s/ConAgra trip, 8/27/09

Published by rachel at 11:25 am under jewel, shopping trips

jewel3

Actually, I made a couple of trips through and got more MEAT, but I’ll only outline one so you can see how the meat deal works :) — and see another Kellogg’s scenario.

And, if you got the VocalPoint coupons in the mail, all the Rice Krispies are on sale today — so you can buy 6 boxes (as always check the “sale” price at your store to make sure you hit $25.00) for $15.00, use the FREE + the 5 $1.00/1 coupons, pay $7.50, get $10.00 back — I did this on my first trip. We’re drowning in cereal here; I think it’s time for another food pantry run!

Jewel 08/27/09 -- $3.51 oop

The above cost me $3.51 –it should actually have been $4.26, but I see on my receipt that the self-checkout person scanned one of my $.75 coupons an extra time. (She actually kept trying to double scan coupons, and I caught a couple!) Anyway…

8 Hunts snack pack pudding, $8.00. Used two $1.00/4 printables (I told you about these when they came out, but alas, they’re gone).
2 Chef Boy Ardee, $2.00. Used two $1.00/1 printables (ditto above).
2 Morningstar “chik’n” nuggets, $7.34. Used two $.75/1 tearpad coupons (but she scanned one twice, so I got $2.25 off instead of $1.50).
1 single pub burger, $1.20.
1 thin-sliced Jewel signature chicken breast, $1.52
1 thin-sliced Jewel signature chicken breast, $1.92
1 thin-sliced Jewel signature chicken breast, $1.54

Got the $4.10 instant discount for buying 4 of the “Fav 4″ meats. Used $10.00 in Catalinas from Kraft and $3.51 in cash (should have been $4.26, if you’re playing along at home!), and got $10.00 in Catalinas back for the Kellogg’s/ConAgra deal. Now, on the little packages of meat, I ended up paying $2.08 after the instant discount for a total of 1.87 lbs of chicken plus the pub burger (which is about .5 lb). So that works out to $1.14/lb — a nice price! :) And that’s why we like Fav 4.

And, if you did the Kraft deal, check the dates on your Catalinas — mine were expiring tomorrow, so I had to get over to Jewel to roll them into new ones!

I’m planning a Jewel run tonight. I sure hope they have the oil. I would love to stockpile some. Thanks again for your great lessons. Hopefully they’ll be fully stocked and I can get some good deals!

  2. Corissaon 27 Aug 2009 at 12:14 pm

Does the Fav4 stack? Could I buy 8 packages of meat and get $8.20 off? I doubt I’d be able to find 8 packages of meat that I’d want to buy at once, but just in case . . .

And thanks for the info on the Rice Krispies, I totally forgot to check this morning when I was there. I already used my free box q but I could use the 5 $1 coupons, and still get 6 boxes free!

  3. rachelon 27 Aug 2009 at 12:18 pm

Corissa — Sure does! The $4.10 comes off for each set of 4 qualifying packs you buy.

  4. Helenon 27 Aug 2009 at 1:22 pm

huh. I’ve never even looked at the meat (although I’ve heard you and others talk about this ‘trick’) but the thin-sliced chicken looks nice. May have to check it out today…hmmm

Thanks for the super-simple explanation of the Fave 4 deal. Maybe I will try it soon. I didn’t even really think they would have packs that small :) I usually think in terms of 1# in a pack = good for recipe. Got to rethink ways to get 1# of meat :)

  6. Juliaon 27 Aug 2009 at 2:12 pm

I did the meat thing today myself, although my Jewel did not have packages quite that small. Still, I paid $9.03 for about 4 lbs of meat (chicken, 2 pub burgers and 4 pork ribs), so that’s about $2.12 per pound, which isn’t bad considering! (plus it allowed me to use up at least one of the $5 coupons from the Con-Agra deal). Thanks for the tips!

Is there a definitive list of all that is included in Fav 4?

  8. Lindsayon 27 Aug 2009 at 5:04 pm

Can anyone fill me in on Jewel’s “Fav 4″ meals? This isn’t part of the Kellog deal is it? How does this work?

  9. rachelon 27 Aug 2009 at 5:40 pm

Lindsay — please read yesterday’s post that explains “Fav 4″ in detail — it should answer all your questions!

  10. rachelon 27 Aug 2009 at 5:41 pm

Greg — There is a list on Couponers Wanted (couponerswanted.com) in their Jewel forum. There’s no google doc to point to, so I’d recommend joining up and exploring their list and other deals if you want to get more advanced :) .

  11. rachelon 27 Aug 2009 at 5:43 pm

Laurie — they do sometimes, esp. the bigger Jewels. You will have better luck early in the morning or if you catch them right when they’re restocking — they’re usually pretty darn picked over by the evening. I found several packs of thin-sliced chicken under a pound today :) .

  12. Monicaon 27 Aug 2009 at 6:13 pm

On the pub burgers, I got the “Jewel Pub Burgers” which worked fine, but I noticed you bought S&D pub burgers. Are both included in this deal or does it vary by the store. I didn’t see any FAV 4 stickers on any S&D burgers at the Jewel I was at.

  13. rachelon 27 Aug 2009 at 6:22 pm

Monica — I got another pub burgers at another store — both said “jewel pub burgers” on the UPC label, but this one also had a “stockman & dakota” sticker slapped on it. So I’m not sure, but maybe they’re the same — anyone else know? :) They were both priced $3.00/lb. Huh. Different UPCs though:

    Stockman sticker: 261126401205
    No sticker: 231125803003

They both worked to trigger the discount, so hth!

  14. Monicaon 27 Aug 2009 at 6:27 pm

Just caught my eye that yours looked different than mine. Was just curious that’s all. No big deal. Thanks for responding.

  15. jenniferon 27 Aug 2009 at 6:33 pm

Went to Jewel today to work the kellogg deal. I got 5 boxes cocoa krispies, 1 hunts snack pack and 2 cbrd. I received my cat. Then i tried 3 wesson canola oils, 1 CBRD and 2 keelber cookies total was $26.05 with tax and cats didn’t print. The CS first tried to tell me because prefered card price and i showed her my receipt from previous order and gotten my cats then she said it is one set of cats per customer and it is linked to my jewel card.

  16. Helenon 27 Aug 2009 at 6:58 pm

Yup, I got 3 of the thin sliced and one tenders. Yay! It’s like $1.59/lb :) Will blog of my adventures later.

  17. Kimon 27 Aug 2009 at 8:47 pm

Jennifer my guess woudl be you got the wrong oil or cookies. I am also guessing this cuz the oils would come to 7.50, The Chefboyrd- $1, and the cookies 5, which is 13.50…so if you paid 26.50,my guess if you had the wrong sizes??

OR if you meant 26.50 before preferrred…did you get Keebler Fudge shoppe or Keeble Sandies…the sandies have a different price break than the fudge shoppes. I forget what the Sandies price break was, but I didn’t buy them because it wasn’t a good one.

Hilarious when cashiers make stuff up like that! But sorry you had a bummer of an experience- it happens to all of us…but never feels good!

  18. Christyon 27 Aug 2009 at 9:41 pm

Went to Jewel today and tried to get my cats using the sale price instead of the preferred price. I had never done this before and it worked like a dream. I got 2 bottles of Wesson, 1 box Special K crackers, 1 can of Pam, 2 packages of Keebler crackers with peanut butter, and 1 Hunts snack pack (plus a head of lettuce for salad today!). My sale prices on all but the lettuce were a little over $26 but my preferred price including the lettuce was a little over $17. I had just $2.35 in coupons so my OOP was $14.94 and I got the $10 back in cats! Now I’m going to roll them over in my next trip :) This is fun!

  19. shellyon 28 Aug 2009 at 6:43 am

Good Morning! I bought 3 weston oils and 4 boxs of popcorn (everything was what was listed and should have the $$ as well) and didn’t get Catalina.. My Aunt says she has heard of problems when buying the popcprn, so I thought I would give you ladies the heads up.. Other wise later on in the evening got 5 weston oils cost $12.50 and got back $10.00.. Thanks and Have a Great day!

  20. rachelon 28 Aug 2009 at 7:23 am

shelly — I don’t think 4 boxes of popcorn will do it, since it’s BOGO — only 2 of them would count, since 2 ring up at zero. So three Wesson at around 5.45 each is 16.35, and even if you take the full 3.49 for 2 popcorns you aren’t hitting 25.

  21. Michaelon 28 Aug 2009 at 8:37 am

is it normal when you scan an item that it will say 5 for 12 as the sale price? the sycamore jewel was coming up that way when i used the scanner last night. Any how made two runs last total price would have been 82.20 but with coupons and cat’s only spent 16.20 out of pocket. Tonight our Jewel has the Preferred Card update so heading there after work.

  22. Angeliqueon 28 Aug 2009 at 9:02 am

I tried stacking the Kellogg’s/ConAgra deal but it didn’t work, only got one set of $10 Catalinas and I was at $56 for sale prices. Even without that extra 10 dollars I still did pretty good. Total of my order was $100, scanned my preferred card and coupons and it came to $48. Got back $15 in Catalinas ($5 for Tombstones) and I can send in another $10 Fuel for School rebate plus I’m up another $5 for the Tombstone utility rebate.

Makes my total cost at $18 for the following: 6 Tombstone pizzas, 3 Yogos, 2 Keebler cookies, 4 Keebler snack crackers, 2 gallons of milk, 1 package tomatoes, 1 lg cottage cheese, 1 Raisin Bran, 1 Mini Frosted Shredded Wheat, 2 lg Pop Tarts, 1 bag of potatoes, 3 Morningstar Farms breakfast meats.

Has anyone else confirmed that the Kellogg’s/ConAgra is only 1 per customer? I am a little frustrated that the ad does not specify any limits.

  23. rachelon 28 Aug 2009 at 9:11 am

Michael — Yes, just like in their ad they often list things as “10/$10.00″ instead of “$1.00.” Bring a little calculator if it’s frustrating — I use the one on my phone to add things up and figure out single item pricing all the time :) .

Angelique — No, this does not stack, you need to do it in separate transactions. (It rarely does stack, the Unilever/GM one was an exception a couple weeks ago.) And no, it is never one per customer, you can roll the Catalinas you get in one transaction into another one. Sometimes it does take a couple minutes for it to reset, so use a different card (I have my husband’s keytag) or go out to your car and drop off one load before doing another run. Sounds like you did great, even without the stacking.

    Hi,
1.Do you know if the morning star chickpea patties and spicy black bean patties are working for this deal?
Will buying 7 will make up for $25 and will I get the $10 catalina?

2.How many rice crispy cereal will work with the conagra deal?I have the $1 coupons and free coupon.
    Thanks
    Meg

  25. Michaelon 28 Aug 2009 at 9:47 am

at my Jewel they did not have the tear off pads for the Morning Star’s was it some other place in the store?

  26. rachelon 28 Aug 2009 at 10:08 am

Michael — I found the tearpad a couple of weeks ago. Always grab coupons you think you’ll use later :) . You can use the $1.00 printable from the original post, though: http://www.mashupmom.com/?p=8851

Meg — check the spreadsheet linked in the original post to see what’s included: http://www.mashupmom.com/?p=8851 . What you need to do is scan one in your store to see what the “sale” price is — in mine, the “chik’n nuggets” scanned at something like $4.05, so 7 would do it, but this again can vary between stores.

And again, at mine, 6 rice krispies worked — I think that’s working for most people, but scan at your store to make sure the price isn’t different. If you use the free and 5 $1.00 coupons, you’ll pay $7.50 with $10 back.

  27. Megon 28 Aug 2009 at 4:11 pm

can you tell me the size of the rice krispies that worked for you may be the upc :) if you can .
    Thanks

  28. Corissaon 28 Aug 2009 at 4:37 pm

Meg — the 12 oz Rice Krispies work.

  29. Wendyon 29 Aug 2009 at 5:52 pm

Rachel, I LOVE YOU!!! I just picked up 2 packs of shrimp, one chicken and a pack of 2 burgers for $6.00 or so. Jambalaya, here we come! No Wesson oil left, so I skipped the catalina deal for today.

  30. Tina Won 29 Aug 2009 at 9:59 pm

I finally got a chance to use my other 20% off entire purchase coupon today.

    I bought:

    16 packs of Talapia fillets
    6 2pk pub burgers
2 61-70 ct packs of shrimp
    12 thin sliced chicken
    2 chuck pot roast
    2 purdue whole fryers

    promo items
    2 Keebler EL Fudge
    2 Special K crackers
    2 Egg beaters
    2 Chef boy r d rings

    1 cantaloupe
    10 Dole fruit cups

Total $167.50 – $41 Fav 4 – $26.15 preferred savings – $23 man q’s – $15.52 (20% off, comes off after all of q’s and savings). $61.83 OOP. Should have received $10 Cat for Congra and 3*$.75 for Dole fruit cups, no cats. Should have printed I bought $27.08 in promo items and the Dole cat was receive $.75 OYNO when you buy 3. I am so proud of this trip. My deep freezer and freezer are at capacity.

All of the meat were the smaller packs, except the roast and whole fryers, they were $4 each. The shrimp was on preferred savings which knocked them down to $3.50 a pack and then w/ Fav 4 savings took an add’l $1 off. Pretty good price for 60-70ct shrimp.

Oh, at my Jewel they had a promo where you buy seafood and receive a free 2pk wood grilling plank. I received 2 2pk for my purchases. For no particular reason, I asked since I was making a large meat purchased. The packs say to discard after 1 time use. Could these be used more than once?

  31. rachelon 29 Aug 2009 at 10:50 pm

Tina W — I think people are having problems with the Chef Boy Ardee rings — did they ring up $1.15 instead of $1.00?

  32. rachelon 29 Aug 2009 at 10:52 pm

Wendy — Yay! Isn’t that the best feeling? :)

  33. Tina Won 30 Aug 2009 at 12:27 am

    The rung $1.19 each.

  34. rachelon 30 Aug 2009 at 6:31 am

    That’s probably it then — only the $1.00 ones work :( .

  35. Donnaon 30 Aug 2009 at 8:24 am

Can tell me the ring price of the CBAD ?

  36. rachelon 30 Aug 2009 at 12:26 pm

$1.00. They’re on big relief price cut so no difference between preferred and sale price. You need the $1.00 cans not the spaghetti rings that are $1.15-$1.19, you won’t get credit for those.

  37. Tina Won 31 Aug 2009 at 11:34 pm

Oh well. Can’t win them all.

  38. Megon 01 Sep 2009 at 1:33 pm

Is the fav 4 still good? When is the last date?
    Thankss

  39. rachelon 01 Sep 2009 at 1:37 pm

Meg — it’s good through tomorrow 9/2. Just got more chicken today! :)

  40. Annaon 02 Sep 2009 at 2:29 pm

Problem with the cheez-its and egg beaters.
Have done this succesfully many times but not with the egg beaters (in flyer but not on list) and or the cheez-its (on the UPC list but not pictured in flyer). Any insights?

  41. rachelon 02 Sep 2009 at 3:36 pm

Anna — Other people have reported problems with the egg beaters now too. This deal has not been working great. You can try calling Catalina but that’s hit or miss. Otherwise I’d only stick to products you know are working and wait for the next one, because sometimes it’s just not worth the aggravation! :)
