Jewel — Unilever/GM/Dr. Pepper Catalina madness

OK guys. Gear up for this one. There’s a new Unilever/GM/Dr. Pepper (UGDP for abbreviation purposes here on out) Catalina deal at Jewel starting WEDNESDAY — 7/29-8/12. What’s scary good here?

  1. There are ten kajillion participating products. You can look at a full spreadsheet here — courtesy of the wondrous, wondersome Couponers Wanted — but prepare to be overwhelmed.
  2. This is a buy $30.00, get $15.00 back deal — you’ll get three $5.00 OYNO coupons here. This is HUGE. One thing to remember here though is that many of the Unilever beauty products are OSCO items, so the Catalinas there work off preferred card, not sale prices.
  3. This deal overlaps with other ongoing Catalina deals. What does this mean for you? It means that there is a double dip on certain items — you get TWO separate sets of Catalinas for buying the same item! Caveat: I have never seen two $/$ Catalinas running at the same time before. This is how it SHOULD work, but this is something to try at your own risk before someone reportsĀ  back on how it’s working.
  4. There will be a Unilever coupon insert in Sunday’s paper, giving you some good coupons towards the deals! (No list available yet, so stay tuned…)

This is just a head’s up, since I don’t really have prices for you guys yet — perhaps there will be some in Thursday’s ad — but wanted to let you know so you could start thinking about it and pulling your coupons together! I will come back with some scenarios later.

Double dip deals

  1. Through 8/9 — Skippy Natural peanut butter, buy two jars, get $1.00 OYNO. You’ll also get credit towards the $30.00 purchase required for the UGDP deal.
  2. Through 8/2 — Dove Go Fresh Therapy and Natural Moisture Therapy 25.4oz shampoo and conditioner, Vaseline intensive rescue or cocoa butter 6.8oz lotion, 300 or 500 count Q-tips. These are all also part of the Unilever beauty products Catalina deal, Spend $10.00 get $3.00; spend $20.00, get $7.00, and spend $30.00+, get $12.00. This is HUGE — if you buy $30.00 of these products through 8/2, you should get back a $12.00 Catalina for the Unilever beauty products Catalina, PLUS $15.00 back for the UGDP deal. Yes. Buy $30.00, get $27.00 back. I kid you not.
  3. Through 7/29 — So working on Wednesday ONLY — 6-packs of the plastic bottles of Dr. Pepper are on the Kellogg’s/Dr. Pepper buy $20 get $10 back promo. So. Buy $30 worth (on sale prices here, since this is a Jewel rather than an Osco item) and get $10 back for Kellogg’s/Dr. Pepper and $15.00 back for UGDP. The preferred card price for these is $1.77 right now, and the sale price is $3.49. Nine of them should get you to $30.00, preferred card $15.93!! Realize that the $1.77 price is limit 8 — but that’s 8 per flavor — so if you buy 2 different varieties you s/b fine. (Or, pay a higher price for the 9th — still a good deal!) (Wed. is a bad day for me to get to the store, I don’t know how I’ll do this!)

For this info, thanks to Couponers Wanted and SlickDeals (Shaws forum).

They’re down any time between 11-2, so after that you should be good! Maybe 3 just to give it some extra padding :) .

  4. Anneon 28 Jul 2009 at 1:49 pm

I’m so excited, thanks for the heads up.

  5. Meganon 28 Jul 2009 at 2:55 pm

Thanks for the heads up!!! We’re moving out to the burbs this weekend, and have been using up the stockpile so there’s less to move. So now I have a sale to look forward to. :)

This deal is exciting! Let’s hope they actually have enough Dr. Pepper in stock! Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the work you do!

thank you for the heads up on this! You and your site are AWESOME!!! I am going to try this at about 4:00 am before my hubby goes to work so I will post how it goes..

This is SOOO exciting. My cup already runneth over. The food pantry is going to be happy.

I just got back from Jewel to do the mix & match deal and the Kellog’s promo. I’m to lazy right now to go through the entire transactions but here a summary:

    Tran #1
    (5) Keebler cookies
-5 OYNO (from Dominick’s water promo)
-5 $1 ips for Keebler cookies
Total $2.72 and $10 OYNO cat

    Trans #2
    (7) 8 ct Rice Krispies
    -10 OYNO cat from above
Total $7.81 and $10 OYNO cat

Tran #3 (to long to type out)
    66 items
    Total $33.20 (saved $109.59)

Wahoo! What a great shopping day, everything on my list was in stock.

The smart balance is part of the mix and match 4/$10 w/ $3 instant savings. I didn’t have coupons and wasn’t planning to do this deal b/ found $1 peelies on the tubs and got 4 of them for $3.

    (4) for $10 – $3 (instant savings) – 4 $1 peelies = $3

For the Wed. only Dr. Pepper catalinas, is that Dr. Pepper only, or can it be 7-up, Diet Dr. Pepper, etc…?

  11. rachelon 28 Jul 2009 at 6:13 pm

Lesley — only Dr. Pepper products. So Dr. Pepper, diet Dr. Pepper, cherry Dr. Pepper… but no 7up overlaps! And again, no one is completely sure how this will go — this is how it SHOULD go, but someone has to try to make sure. (I’m out ALL MORNING tomorrow so someone else will have to be the guinea pig this time :)

Did anyone hear about the Kraft rebate coming up 8/7 at Jewel? Here’s the info: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Products/SuperValuPromotion.aspx Combine that with sales/coupons to have a real money-maker!

  13. rachelon 28 Jul 2009 at 9:47 pm

Thanks, J! I figured I’d wait until the date for this was closer because the current deals are confusing enough. :) But they don’t usually make a nice announcement and list like that online, very cool.

So the Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks are included in the spend $30, get $15… does that mean if I buy 16 boxes ($31.84 pre-PC price) that I will spend $15.84 and get back $15??????

  15. rachelon 28 Jul 2009 at 10:47 pm

Kate — the only problem with this is that it’s an instant discount, which usually messes up the cat deals. The PC price is $1.99 wyb less than 4 — so basically you’re getting an instant $4.00 discount on each 4 you buy (to get down to that $.99/box price). That instant discount is generally reflected in the sale prices as well. I don’t know what the non-PC sale price of the fruit snacks is right now (scan a box and see!) but for the purposes of this discussion let’s pretend it’s $2.50. (PRETENDING, FOLKS! Just to keep the math simple — don’t buy these on this assumption :) )

So on a regular deal where there are no instant savings, you’d buy 12 boxes to get to $30.00. However, on each set of four you buy, you now have to account for that $4.00 instant savings — so you’re actually only hitting $18.00 ($30.00 -$12.00 instant savings ($4.00 on 3 sets of 4).

So what you’d need to do if you’re doing ALL fruit snacks, is to find out the sale price before preferred card (use the price scanner if your store has one). You’ll need to hit $30.00 after all the instant savings are deducted. So on our $2.50/box sale price example, you’d actually need to buy 20 boxes (20*2.50=50, -$20.00 instant savings = $30.00). This would cost you $19.80 on preferred prices with $15.00 back. (But you could of course add a bunch of those $.50/2 coupons to help!)

  17. shellyon 29 Jul 2009 at 6:53 am

  18. rachelon 29 Jul 2009 at 6:59 am

You guys are killing me! I didn’t get up early enough — have a commitment all morning and then have to come home and wait for a door guy all afternoon. Leave some for me ;) .

  19. Kimon 29 Jul 2009 at 7:13 am

I did the Dr Pepper deal this morning and it worked just like you said it would! Also did the Qtip and Vaseline deal (it’s the smaller box of Vaseline Intensive Rescue, so make sure you match the size) and worked perfectly, too! I bought 4 Vaseline Intensive Rescue lotions and 4 300 count Qtips. With coupons and previous Dr Pepper catalinas it cost me $6.50 out of pocket AND I got $27 back in cats!!! Yeah! Thank you so much for posting these deals!

  20. Meganon 29 Jul 2009 at 8:00 am

I don’t see anything about the Unilever/GM deal in the new ad. Is it unadvertised or am I blind? :)

  21. tanyaon 29 Jul 2009 at 11:43 am

what size is this for 20oz or 24 oz thanks

  22. rachelon 29 Jul 2009 at 1:11 pm

Megan — A lot of times they don’t advertise the Catalina deals at all, or they’ll advertise it only the last week it runs — so if you know about it earlier than everyone else, you’re golden! ;)

  23. Pam B.on 29 Jul 2009 at 8:08 pm

Ok, I just did the Dr. Pepper deal at the Lockport Jewel and it worked!! What is even more amazing I think I got the last 8 Dr. Peppers so I picked on A&W up, hoping it would work and it still worked!! Woo Hoo!!! Thank You Rachel :-)

  24. tanyaon 30 Jul 2009 at 7:02 am

for those who got the water coupon you should be able to use three water coupons (aquafina) and get $5.00 off a meat its list on back of todays flyer haven’t tried it but it looks like it’ll work

  25. lucyon 01 Aug 2009 at 3:39 pm

FYI – I messed something up – bought the following and made sure it was on the list above – even checked the items numbers. I know no guarantee – just wondered if anyone could tell me what I did wrong. I did use two $10 catalinas from the Dr. Pepper/Keebler from earlier in the week

Vaseline Lotions – 4 bottles – they were 2/$5.00 – so that is $10 – preferred card price because figure it was an Osco item

Ragu – 3 bottles (sale $1.99) but I took the $3.29 price thinking that is what the catalina would take – $9.87

Hellmannn Mayo (sale $3.39 used a .60 coupon) before preferred card – $5.39

Dove Bars of Soap (2/$5 – bought two) – $10 – preferred card price again thinking Osco item

    Spent over $30 no catalinas

  26. Lillianon 04 Aug 2009 at 11:16 pm

  28. rachelon 06 Aug 2009 at 1:47 pm

Lil, the Dr. Pepper double dip is long over. If you read the posts about this deal, they include the end dates of the double promotions.

  29. Lilon 06 Aug 2009 at 5:27 pm
