I heart my piPhone
I’ve had my piPhone a month now, and wow — do I love it. (Which is good, because if you’re going to splurge on something, you’d darn well better use it a lot, right?
) And now I’m serendiptitously coming across others’ posts on how transformative the iPhone has been for them, for instance:
- The amazing transformative power of the iPhone — wherein I learned of a neat free application called Lose It!, which provides calorie and exercise calculations and tracks your progress toward your weight loss goal. (Downloaded!)
- How I became a digital mom and why I love it! — wherein I learned there’s a neat free WordPress app for the iPhone, and read some interesting comments on what frugality means. (Downloaded!)
I’veĀ barely scratched the surface of what this can do, and am sticking to only downloading free apps (spent enough already!), but I have downloaded the Stanza and Kindle ebook apps (and am starting to load the free Kindle ebooks as they appear). I use the Shazam app to identify songs that are playing on TV or in restaurants — too cool. There’s an “urban spoon” app that helps pick restaurants by cuisine and price and includes reviews; this is useful when I’m traveling. I take photos of the kids and email them immediately to long-distance grandparents; I can check my email on the go so it doesn’t get piled up during the day; and the email/Internet features have been great when I’m traveling and dependent on flaky hotel wireless access. I have used the GPS/mapping feature to get myself un-lost, check weather and news on the go, and catch up on my FriendFeed.
Am I alone in my nonfrugal love here? What free apps have you found you can’t live without?
(I forgot to mention in my original post that I purchased a refurbished iPhone at Best Buy — the first store didn’t have any in stock, but called another local store to hold their last one. Still expensive, but not $297! So check around for refurbs if you’re thinking of making the leap.)
