Dominick’s deals, week of 3/11/10

Published by rachel at 9:16 pm under dominicks

Here are the best Dominick’s deals I see for the week of 3/11/10. My hit-or-miss ads didn’t show up in the mail yet, so I’m going off a scan again — but wanted to get this up for you because Dominick’s is stepping it up this week! Free salad! Free Marie’s salad dressing! Free cereal! Read on! :)

  • In-ad coupon: $30 gift card with transferred prescription.

Note one: There’s a new Heart Health brochure with store coupons in it. I found mine in a little stand by the pharmacy. Also there’s supposed to be a March manufacturer health and beauty coupon booklet with manufacturer coupons in it (including one for $.50 off Suave, should you need more Suave), but I haven’t spotted that one yet.

Note: Their super coupon policy has changed so that you now need to hit that $10 minimum purchase on card prices.

Non-local readers (hi mom!): Dominick’s deals sometimes apply at sister stores Safeway, Vons, Randalls, Tom Thumb, and Genuardi’s. Dominick’s takes expired coupons back one year, but they can be persnickety about coupons in general. Their official printable coupon policy says that they will not accept FREE printables, nor will they accept printables for more than half of an item’s price. In practice, this varies from store to store and even from cashier to cashier. Dominick’s, unlike Jewel, gives their stores tremendous leeway about coupon policies, so if your store is coupon-unfriendly, you might want to scope out one a little further away.

Catalina deals

  • March Frozen Food Catalina. This is a buy $25, get $10 on your next frozen food purchase that runs 2/28-3/30. Some products listed in ad, and look for tags in store on other items. (Note the OYNO is good on frozen food only, although that’s not clear at all from their ad.) Here is a link to the master list for the participating products in this promo from SuperBob0000 at Slick Deals. One thing that jumps out at me: Green Giant frozen boxed veggies at $1.69. There’s $.50/2 on Cellfire and another $.50/2 on Shortcuts (and some from previous months still active if you loaded them earlier), and another $.50/2 on SmartSource.com.
  • California Pizza Kitchen (3/5-3/28) — Buy 2 Get $1 OYNO, Buy 3 get $2 OYNO, buy 4 or more get $3 OYNO. (Thanks, Mary Beth!)

This is awesome this week if you aren’t already drowning in free fruit snacks from Jewel, because fruit snacks are $1.00 each wyb 5. So: Buy 5 for $5.00. Use two $.50/2 from Coupons.com or from the 3/7 SS. Then load $.50/2 on Cellfire. Then load another $.50/2 on Shortcuts. Now you’re at 5/$3.00 with $3.50 back for a slight money maker. And, if you have e-coupons loaded from previous months, that’s even better!

Three-day sale, Thurs-Sat.

  • Oscar Mayer deli shaved lunchmeat, $1.99. There are expired $1.00 printables. There’s also a $1.00/2 manufacturer coupon in this week’s Jewel ad. Another $1.00/2 in the 3/7 SS.
  • Extra jumbo cooked shrimp, $6.99/lb.
  • Mott’s apple juice, $.99 limit 2.
  • Fritos or Cheetos, $1.29. There’s a $1.00/2 coupon in the Ultra ad, so stop by there first. :) Some people have also found $1.00/2 tearpads.
  • Butternut bread, $1.79. $.35/1 in the 2/7 SS but I can’t see if it’s for the right size.

Buy five save $5.00 group one — $.99 group

There are two buy five save $5.00 deals going this week — they look from the ad like they’re mix/match within groups, but not between groups. So, here’s group one. Prices listed are after buy five, save $5.00 discount. These deals at Dominick’s generally stack, so, buy 10, save $10.00, etc.

  • Eating Right 12 oz cut veggies, $.99.
  • Eating Right salad blends, $.99.
  • Fresh Express salad blends, $.99. Use the expired $1.00/1 from the “strawberries” booklet at Jewel.
  • Selected Marie’s pourable dressings, $.99. 1.00/1 in the 1/31 SS. $1.00/1 yogurt variety in the 1/3 SS. $1.00/1 printable here (IF your Dominick’s takes printables that makes items free) as well as on SmartSource.com.
  • 16 oz POM Wonderful tea, $.99.
  • Monterey mushrooms 10 oz or white button mushrooms 8oz, $.99.

Buy five save $5.00 group two — mix and match

Here’s the second group of buy 5, save $5.00. This is a mix/match deal with different price points. Prices listed are after buy five, save $5.00 discount. Limit 20.

Look for tags in store for additional participating items — for instance, not listed in ad, but listed on a number of Safeway blogs: Nature Valley Nut Clusters at $1.50. Print $1.00/1 on Coupons.com or SmartSource.com or use from 1/21 SS. Also, load $1.00/1 on both Shortcuts and Cellfire from some nice overage.

$1.00 after discount

  • Betty Crocker fruit snacks. See the last entry under Catalina deals above!
  • Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal. Use the $1.00/1 from the 2/14 RP to get these free. Or if you have the $3.00/5 from the Butera or Ultra ads a while back, use here and get 5/$2.00. This is a great price for Oatmeal Squares.
  • Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. $1.00/3 2/7 RP. There are also a number of expired $1.00/2 and $1.00/1 touch of honey (if included) — check the HCW database here if you’re a keeps expired coupons type of person.

  • Rosen’s rye bread, $2.29.

Refrigerated/Dairy

  • Minute Maid OJ, 2/$4.00.
  • Oscar Mayer basic lunchables, $.99. If it includes subs, use $.75/1 on Coupons.com.

Loading e-coupons — and printing Dominick’s coupons

Load e-coupons now at four different places. They only come off once on one item — so for example, if you have $.55/1 Lucky Charms loaded, but buy two boxes, you will only get the $.55 savings on one box. After you use an e-coupon it disappears off your card, but sometimes they reappear on the sites so you can reload them. If you have the same e-coupon loaded from both Shortcuts and Cellfire, usually both discounts come off.

I really don’t care for Dominick’s and even though the fruit snacks are a money maker…I’ll stick with my Jewel. I did go to Dominick’s today to pick up some string cheese for the little one because it is very close to my house. I bought 2 packages (same kind). I handed over 2 $1 internet coupons. Cashier informed me that their new policy is to only accept 1 “internet” coupon for 1 of the same 2 items. So, I had to rip thru my coupon folder to find a “manuf” coupon for the 2nd same item. The cashier informed me that they are doing this so that people don’t buy 5 of the same item and use 5 same internet coupons because most likely the person copied the coupon which is fraud. Really, so call everyone dishonest and assume that if a person comes in to the store with more then one of the same internet coupon, they copied it? I explained to them that each person is allowed to print 2 per computer. It’s just not worth explaining anything to them….not worth our time!

If the whole wheat Barilla pasta is included in the sale, it will make a nice match up with the $.55/1 coupon from this past Sunday’s paper. Meijer has Barilla on sale too, I think $.89/box.

    Oh thanks! I’ll add that.

question about the buy five, save $5, mix & match, group two…..Do you think I can mix and match between price points? For example, can I buy 4 Quaker Oatmeal Squares for $1 each and 1 Honey Nut Cheerios for $1.50?

I have the Dominicks ad, since yesterday – but it doesn’t help me answer my question.

    Thanks!

  5. rachelon 10 Mar 2010 at 10:40 pm

Angela — yup! Whenever they’ve done these you’ve been able to mix/match between price points, just as long as you buy in groups of five.

How do I find out the participating products for each catalina deal? I am interested in the Betty Crocker Fruit Snack. I heard some people bought the wrong ones last year and didn’t get the catalina so I just want to double check before I go to the store. Thanks.

I read on a Safeway blog that Kellogg’s fruit snacks are also $1 after discount, and we just got that $1.50/1 vocalpoint q. I may look at that. I am hesitant to try nut clsuters and granola bars. When the e-coupons come off they sometimes freak out even at self-check. It seems that when I have e-coupons my manqs don’t scan (case in point – caribou gave me trouble at self check but not a reg. register). But at the register sometimes they notice them, and they don’t come off until the end so there’s a risk of running negative since you can’t always know what will come off for those items. Sigh. I do need Splenda, so could buy that with a bunch of NV products and hope for no negative, but dom’s is sometimes more trouble than it is worth! LOL I have to be ready to walk away if they refuse my manq on top of e-coupons. ugh.

I went on my way to work because I had a pile of Squares qs and knew they would run out fast. Hit up Elmhurst for 9 Squares, 3 Fuel, 2 Kix, 1 Krispie. $5.86 :)

  8. Amyon 11 Mar 2010 at 8:49 am

For the Cheetos, there are also tear pad q’s for save $1 on 2.

  9. pton 11 Mar 2010 at 9:13 am

My stockpile of kid cereal is finally running low (I haven’t bought in any forever!) and I’ve had some requests for Lucky Charms and Fruity Pebbles…I like the look of this list esp the produce…and might have to actually go to Doms this week! Wish me luck, I might need it! : )

Anyone have luck with the Hamburger Helper? Didn’t get mine.

  11. Meganon 11 Mar 2010 at 10:38 am

LC, I tried the HH deal a few weeks ago and no cat printed. Were there any signs up at your store? Mine didn’t have signs, so there was no proof of the deal. :(

  12. rachelon 11 Mar 2010 at 11:53 am

Shirley — I don’t think there’s a fruit snacks list, but haven’t heard of anyone not getting them this time.

Helen — how much was the kix after discount?

Megan and LC — not sure what’s up with the Hamburger Helper, sorry!

  13. Helenon 11 Mar 2010 at 11:55 am

Kix is $2 after, so then $1 after q. So when you average out the free cereal with the $1 cereal, it’s all good :)

  14. Helenon 11 Mar 2010 at 12:17 pm

Also, Wheaties Fuel is $3, then $2 after deal, then $1 after q. So I basically paid for all those. But since the GM Cat, we LOVE this cereal!

  15. LCon 11 Mar 2010 at 1:03 pm

Megan, no signs up at my store either. I’ll call Catalina tomorrow to see if Doms has this promo.

I’m guessing not, but I still got a great deal after eqs, man qs and that great .99 sale. :-)

  16. rachelon 11 Mar 2010 at 2:23 pm

On Hamburger Helper — I think I must have had the wrong end-date on it. Because I see it in the national catalina deals list as ending 3/7, but wherever I got it from (I no longer remember) said it was one of the ones ending 3/21. Sorry!! I removed it.

  17. Heatheron 11 Mar 2010 at 5:09 pm

Cheetos coupon is also in the Strack & Van Til ad. Same company owns Ultra and Strack’s, and many times times they have the same coupons in ad.

  18. janon 12 Mar 2010 at 10:46 am

FYI..I did the BC fruit snacks today. Bought 5 and only got $1.50 cat not $3.50 cat. Only did this deal because it was a MM. Wound up paying $1.00 for 5 boxes with ecoupons, mq’s, and cat rebate…but, definitely not the MM I was looking for.
The deli creations are not part of the lunchables deal. It was only your basic small square box lunchables. The Dom’s at AH rd and Palatine had lunchable deli subs(without water) reduced to .59…of course because the exp date is coming…and there are .75 printables..good luck with that! I didn’t have those q’s with me so I didn’t do it, but I might go back.
They also had Oscar Mayer shaved deli packages reduced to .99(exp tomorrow) if you are interested in freezing some packages it worked well with the $1 q off 2 pkgs for a total of .49 a pkg.
I wasn’t sure if the .79 barilla pasta was going to include the Piccolini(.55 q in 3/7 ss) and it did. But, alas, I did not have any q’s with me. It did not include the wheat pasta..had that q with me!
Hope this helps someones shopping trip.

    Got this catalina today:

For every $50 you spend at Dominicks with your Fresh values Card, you get a $10 Kohls Rewards Certificate.

    Runs March 18-22 only.

Says not valid with any other offer or discount.

  20. Erinon 12 Mar 2010 at 2:05 pm

On the Betty Crocker fruit snack deal -

I have heard that the Sunkist fruit snacks don’t work towards the Cat deal. I can tell you that I bought fruit roll ups, fruit snacks (scooby and my little ponies) and fruit by the foot and they worked fine.

  21. Shirleyon 12 Mar 2010 at 2:21 pm

Here’s what I brought home today:

    4 BC fruit snack
    1 NV granola bar
    1 NV nut cluster
    2 Oatmeal squares
    1 Honey nut cheerio
    1 Corn flake
    3 Barilla pasta

After coupons and e-coupons, I only paid tax ($0.25) and received $2.5 catalina. Originally, my total went to negative. My cashier had to call the manager. They wonder how I get into the negative with just the coupons I handed to the cashier. Finally, they realized I also have e-coupons so the manager had to give me back the NV granola bar coupon so the total comes back to positive.

  22. Cherion 12 Mar 2010 at 5:48 pm

Is the frozen food cat a mfr coupon or a store coupon? I was wondering if I could take it to Jewel and then use it for frozen food there on the Chill deal.

  23. Krison 12 Mar 2010 at 7:01 pm

Dani Jewel doesnt accept free internet coupons nor do they accept internet coupons for more than four dollars. They also dont accept expired coupons. Whether you like it or not you have to shop a number of places if you want to get the best price. You cant blame cashiers for being hesitant to take internet coupons. If it turns out it was a copy they could get warned or written up and minimum wage jobs like that are the only ones really hiring right now. I work at Dominicks and I dont know what that checker is talking about. A woman came through my line just the other day and bought two and the same thing and use two internet coupons. If there is a rule against that its news to me. She should be trained how to tell if its a copy. I am. you shouldnt stop shopping anywhere because of one bad experience. some cashiers are better than others. thats just the way it is.

  24. rachelon 12 Mar 2010 at 9:23 pm

Cheri — I’m pretty sure I’ve read that it’s a store coupon — anyone done it and can verify?
