Heads up FREEZER deal — Jewel

Published by rachel at 10:13 am under jewel

I’m reading both on Jill Cataldo’s site and more on her site here and on Couponers Wanted that Jewel’s annual freezer deal should be coming up THIS WEEKEND starting Sunday Feb. 7. Happy Super Bowl! What’s the deal?

  • Buy a freezer for $150.00, and it comes filled with $150.00 in coupons for free food!

So if you need a freezer, this is a great time to buy one. I’d get there early…

so you buy freezer at Jewel?

  2. rachelon 02 Feb 2010 at 10:33 am

Yes — this is a once a year only thing, and each store usually has 20-30 freezers available. If you click that link to Jill Cataldo’s site she has some more info on what was included in last year’s deal (the list of coupons for this year is not yet available).

I think it is 5 cubic feet, so not that big in size. Rachel?

I don’t know — I already had a freezer so never got in on this. It’s a chest one, not huge — if you go digging on Jill Cataldo’s site she has the old ad from last year posted somewhere, or I’ll add here when the link to the new ad giving dimensions is available.

I already know the dimensions – basically, if you round up to the nearest foot, you would need a spot two feet by three feet on the floor (three feet wide and two feet deep). It’s also jsut under three feet tall. So no, not huge. however, I have checked around and $150 bucks is a decent deal on this size of a chest freezer to begin with, add in the free groceries and it has paid for itself. and YES I do plan on getting one.

I did this deal YEARS ago when they first did it. It is a small freezer, but if you don’t have one this is great. The trick is to find the free food when they go BOGO and you make out that way. The coupons are not always based on the highest price of the item, they are based on the lowest retail value. Either way I still think it pays for itself. Buy the freezer keep the coupons, sell the freezer.

I’ve been planning on buying my freezer since last year when I heard about this deal for the first time. I’m a little bummed they are rolling it out on a Sunday since I don’t shop on Sundays. Hopefully there will still be one left for me on Monday:)

I have read somewhere about them only releasing them at a certain hour? do they release official details about this at some point?

It’ll be in the ad at some point. Apparently some stores sell out early and some still had them a few days later — at least last year, who knows, this year! They should be available at open for non-24-hour stores and at midnight for 24-hour stores. Some stores last year put them out early!

I did this two years ago and love my freezer! Most of the coupons have long expiration dates, many through December, so you have plenty of time to wait for BOGO sales on the products.

The freezer works great and the change on my electric bill was negligible. I’d definitely recommend it!

You can get a freezer early, for $170 and still get the coupons. So for those of you who can’t or don’t want to wait until Sunday, it may be worth the extra $20.
