Free Purina Pro Plan at PetSmart

Published by rachel at 10:54 am under coupons, inserts

OK! For those of you looking for pet food deals, I read from eller777 on Couponers Wanted (yes, it’s CW day!) that this weekend’s 1/31 SmartSource is supposed to contain the following coupon: FREE (up to 13.99) One (1) 3.5lb-6lb bag of Purina Pro Plan brand Cat or Dog Food, any variety. Expires 2/14/2010. Only redeemable at PetSmart.

  1. I do not see this in the coupon previews online, so it is most likely regional. I would buy one paper, check, and then go nuts if it’s in there and your pets eat this kind. :)
  2. vani13 on CW says that this coupon is in today’s (Friday) Chicago Sun-Times inserts. I don’t know if it’s in the ones you buy at the store or only the delivered one. If anyone picks one up and sees this in there, comment here! Update: Confirmed by Julie — she just picked up five copies and the coupon was in there, so run! I’ll let you know tomorrow after I pick up my Tribs if it is in there as well. Now if my darn cat didn’t only eat Purina ONE, I’d be getting a lot of papers this weekend…

I found three papers at Walgreen’s. The FREE coupon is inside a SS circular. Thanks for the heads-up, we don’t usually get this paper!

I never knew there was an early preview on the chicago tibune. I don’t really understand. Is there no chicago tribune on sunday? It just comes out on saturday?

I’m going to go try to find a chicago sun times.

Got nine papers today so nine bags of 6 lb dog food = 45 pounds. Paid tax of $7.55 plus $6.75 for the papers of 14.30. Basically 32 cents per pound. The store had not yet seen the coupon but had no problem using it. The shelves were VERY full but i bet it won’t last for long!

YAY. I got six coupons so far. It sucks buying so many newspapers just for one measly little coupon. BUT, they are already going for 2 coupons for 5 dollars on ebay..So, it seems worth it. I think the whole purina strip is going for like 15. Ridiculous.

I know this is like my 3rd post..I’m overly excited haha. I’m calling everyone I know and telling them to get papers haha -

ANYWAY, did anyone see the pouches of pro plans at petsmart? I tried to look the pouches up on petsmart.com and couldn’t find them.

can I buy the early version of the sundays paper today, on friday?? ifso, where?? please tell..

  9. rachelon 29 Jan 2010 at 5:31 pm

Heather — No, the earliest you can buy the Sunday Tribune is mid-morning Saturday — they put out an early edition on Saturday morning.

Felicia — It’s in today’s Sun-Times, not the Tribune. It’s supposed to also be in the Tribune inserts on Sunday — will verify once I pick up my early edition tomorrow AM.

Monica — Glad you got yours! The Tribune comes out 7 days a week. However they put out an “early edition” of the Sunday paper which you can pick up on Saturdays. This is nice because you can grab coupons for Sunday shopping. Both the Dollar Tree and Menards sell the early edition of the Sunday Trib for $1.00. So if this is the one coupon you want, you’re actually better off getting the Sun-Times today for $.75 :) .

The Jewel in Lisle has Purina One cat food bags on clearance. I don’t know the price but it usually is $2 less than regular.

is available in the machines? or only the in store sun-times?

Thanks for the information this afternoon! I spent 9.00 on papers (plus found 2 free inserts at a Starbucks) spent $13.65 on the tax and came home with $208.50 worth of product. Our dog was wagging her tail tonight at dinner time!

  13. Feliciaon 29 Jan 2010 at 9:40 pm

I bought 3 papers, wished I bought more till I realized this coupon will be in Sundays paper too. I’m fairly new at this and have to say, I feel a bit guilty for wasting so much paper since I don’t even read it! I recycle but can’t help but look at the pile and think…poor trees….

Any information about coupon-friendly Petsmarts would be greatly appreciated. I have enough coupons that I wouldn’t mind driving for both the cat and dog food (well, maybe not all the way to Wisconsin or Indiana).

  15. Chris Schelthoffon 29 Jan 2010 at 10:52 pm

Felicia – I take all my papers to a puppy place. I think the trees would rather be recycled than peed on!

  16. Feliciaon 30 Jan 2010 at 12:49 am

    That’s funny Chris…guess I’ll stick to the recycling :)

Found it in the Sunday Tribune!

Okay, was this a good deal or not? My brian is too tired to figure it out! (Though I think I pretty much “broke even.”)

Went to petsmart with 8 Qs. Cashier took 12.99 for each (despite the fact that some packs rang at 8.99 and some at 11.99.) SIDENOTE, had I known this ahead of time, I could have gotten away with a lot of “filler items!” At one point, she was giving me 1 Q back and charging me $16.xx for my 8 bags. I told her to try to adjust the Q down to 8.99 and ultimately I got charged 8.96 and got 2 Qs back. I was confused to say the least. The tax was 6.97, so I think I “lost” 50¢ (if you base that each Q “cost” 75¢.

    Here is the receipt:

    cat food 9.99
    cat food 9.99
    cat food 9.99
    dog food 11.99
    dog food 11.99
    dog food 11.99
    dog food 11.99
    dog food 11.99

    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn -12.99
    manu cpn – 9.99

    subtotal 1.99

    tax 6.97

I know she did it wrong. Just want to make sure i would not be better off if I went back and have them re-do it which I have no doubt would be a big headache!!!

  20. rachelon 30 Jan 2010 at 1:52 pm

LOL, what a mess. The coupon says “up to $13.99,” so where your cashier was getting $12.99 from, who knows. From what you comment it looks like you used 7 coupons for 8 bags and paid $1.99 + tax OOP. In that case, I wouldn’t bother to have them re-do it, for several reasons: 1) what’s your time worth?, and 2) since you already left the store, the coupons are gone, and they’ll be even more confused, and, 3) now you have an extra coupon (since you got 8 bags and used 7 coupons), so can go back (when someone else is working!) and get one more free bag — that gets you 9 bags for $1.99 OOP with 8 coupons, so it will be like you got 8 free and paid just $1.99 for the 9th. If you have them redo it, the proper way to do it would be 8 bags free with 8 coupons or 7 bags free with 7 coupons, so you’d either have to give up that 8th coupon or give back a bag of food.

  21. Julie Walkeron 30 Jan 2010 at 2:24 pm

I will leave as is. I did make one mistake on the receipt (which may cause a headache for anyone literally doing the math!) She only input 6 coupons total. 5 for 12.99 and 1 for 9.99. If she had put in 11.98 for the last Q (where she put in $9.99) I would have really had a good deal!

I think I may have gotten a little shorted here, but not by much, but not worth going back. My time (plus the impending headache it would cause) is not worth it. Even though I am going back to use the 2 Qs she gave back!

    Coupons give ya headaches!!

  22. [...] a quick google search it’s been confirmed MashUp Mom confirms that this coupon is ALSO in the Chicago Sun [...]
