OK! These are supposed to be in the Jewel ad on Sunday January 29 — not in tomorrow’s Thursday ad, so don’t look for them yet. They will only be good Sun-Wed. Do NOT try to print the below, which is for illustrative purposes only; the deal is only good with the coupons from the actual ad.
Picture, so this makes more sense, swiped
from deranged.me, who swiped it from CW.
So here is the deal. The Sunday Jewel ad for most locations will contain five “twice the value” coupons. You can use each twice the value coupon together with any one manufacturer coupon with a face value of up to $1.00 (aside from exclusions stated on the doubler), and the twice the value coupon will double your manufacturer coupon’s value. So, if I have a $1.00/1 manufacturer’s coupon, and hand them that coupon along with a doubler coupon, I will get $2.00 off my item.
These are limited to five per person per day.
You’ll want to pick up a Tribune or two on Saturday and start clipping and getting ready, and then I would recommend heading to the store on Sunday to pick up a couple extra ads before they disappear.
So… start looking at your higher value — like your $1.00! — coupons and think what you want to double. Look at the list of Jewel deals for this week, and you might want to hold off on some til Sunday in order to get a better deal. If you spot any great matchups with doubled coupons, please comment here.

Will this work on the Walgreens RR??? Like if I have $1.00 RR will it double to $2.00?
All the RR that I have seen lately is $2 or higher. I will just stick with the insert coupons or IP.
I think that it should — it says all manufacturer coupons. Unless you get into an argument about it constituting a “competitor” coupon. Honestly, I’ve never seen them do this before so it’s new to me too. (They did it for a couple of stores as a test a while back, but nowhere near me.)
This is awesome!! Thanks for the heads up! So excited!!
That is a great Q and A…. i hadnt even considered the rr being doubled…ty
anybody want to start posting deals?
Do you really think those coupons will be limited? I assume they would come in the Sunday Trib., but I *hope* the stores will have them in those little cups like they do when they have BOGO coupons….
Oh how great it would be if they double cats too – then you could basically get $2 off anything! (I guessing they won’t allow that – or if they do will shut it down before the end of the advertised dates)
ok 5 per day? 5 per order? is this tied to your preferred card, otherwise how will they know? I don’t think they’ve ever tied anything to the the preferred card, so not likely….
Didnt even think about $1 rr’s…. Technically it’s a manufacturer’s coupon
What $1 rr’s are out right now? Depending on your jewel they might actually limit it to 1 transaction per person/per visit like when they had the in ad 1¢ hot dogs, buns & soda wine tags….
The manager at the Wheaton Jewel on Main St/Schmale had no idea what I was talking about so I hope it happens at all Jewels.
So it looks like if the Suave kids shampoo is on sale for $1 and I buy two of them and use the $1/2 Q and then it doubles to $2/2 then its free shampoo! And if you buy 3 birds eye frozen veggies at $3/3 and use that printable $1/3 Q and then it doubles to $2/3, then you can get 3 bags of frozen veggies for $1. Sounds good to me! I hope this promo works well for Jewel and they make it a regular occurance.
The suave kids shampoo is $1.50, so it’ll be $.50 after doubled $1.00/2
I double coupons all the time at Mariano’s up to a dollar. Here are some items that I have gotten great deals on in the past for either free or cheap: pasta sauce, coffee creamer, Musselman’s applesauce, boxes of tea, Welch’s refrigerated juice, cereal, Land O Lakes deli cheese, yogurt, Fresh Express salad, ketchup, BBQ sauce, juice boxes, Blistex/Chapstick, frozen veggies, pizza, corn dogs, Mr. Clean, soup, Eggo Waffles, peanut butter, and bread.
As I go through the coupons every Sunday, I cut out coupons that I know I can probably double and get a good deal on, and I keep them in my Mariano’s file. That way when I go, I have them with me. Everything that’s on sale is not always in the flyer so I have to be prepared.
Wow. This is really big. I do the doubles at Mariano’s too but they make you have a $25 order. They do have really good prices on lots of things but taking the time to scope the store is a hassle. I hope people don’t try to do what is excluded on Jewel’s doubler coupon. Seriously, if the store’s get a lot of people doing what Jewel has asked them NOT to do, they might discontinue this.
Does anyone compile Mariano’s deals online? I can never seem to find a good list.
Last October, my Jewel was 1 of 5 in the Chicagoland area that did this double coupon promotion for a week. Each day after I finished shopping, I went to the customer service desk and asked for another sheet of the double coupons from the ad, as they did not have them available with the weekly ad. They gave them to me no problem each day and I was able to score some great deals. So glad they are opening it up to more stores, even if the limit is 5 per day. Sad that it is for only 4 days this time though!
Maybe I’m crabby today, but what is the big deal here? At most an extra $5. If they want the business, then double all our $#^%$ coupons for one day. It’s the least they could do for the crummy prices they’ve had lately. ARGHHHH!
Lol Stacey! I understand what you are saying! By the time I drive out to Jewel, I will have wasted $5 in gas. I will bring hubby with me so he can do a transaction too, maybe then we can save $10 and make it worth it. Especially if I make sure to pick up my CVS prescriptions that day too, which is rigth next door. Maybe then I can justify it. Since I can walk to the Dom’s on the corner of my block, the deals usually have to be pretty decent at Jewel for me to drive over there. It’s not THAT far, its just that it isn’t on the corner like Dom’s!
I don’t exactly use $5 bills to start our fireplace up, LOL. Right now, $5 is 1/10th of our weekly food budget! $5 is 5 dozen more eggs, or 2 gallons more milk, or 10 pounds of flour and a canister of oats. $5 for hardly any extra work? Heck yes!
I had someone in line behind me the day I bought all the baby food and formula and stuff huffing about how long it was taking because the cashier needed a manager override for all my coupons and a price check on the formula that rang up as $15 instead of $4. But he wasn’t willing to hand over a bunch of $20 bills to hurry up his wait!
Ha, love this, next time I get someone sighing, etc, I’ll just turn and hand them my coupons and offer to ‘hurry up’ for a cash exchange!
I think we need to set up a separate cashier, complete with sign, for “rich people who don’t need their money”. We know no couponers will get in that line!
But if you have to buy more newspapers to get the coupons, not quite a “free” $5, wouldn’t you agree? If they have sheets and sheets of them available at the store, you can bet I will make the most of it. And for the record, I don’t light my fireplace with $5 bills, and I still pick pennies off the ground. I just thought it was a lame promotion from Jewel, given the prices they’ve had lately on just about everything that isn’t a loss-leader.
I have to agree about Jewel prices. I find the best deals at Meijers and Dominicks for stocking up. Paying $2.50 for a gal of milk is way too much for me. I stick with the 1.97/gal at Dom. or the 1.18/gal Smart Balance at Meijer.
If you are paying 1.19 / 1/2 gal of smart balance milk at Meijer then you are not taking advantage of the Meijer coupon 1$/2 which makes that milk .59 per 1/2 gallon wyb 2….
I shop at Mariano’s and used a $1 cat I got from buying Kikkoman on Doubler Wed, they took it without a problem so I would assume Jewel would double cats/RRs too.
It’s a much better promotion than the game that is ending soon. I wasted 45 minutes on Thursday going through all of my game pieces. I’d prefer a $5 off $25 coupon, but I’m not complaining about double coupons.
BK, thank goodness that game from hell is about to end. After hundreds of dollars spent at Jewel, I’ve won a .99 spice, one donut, and a can of olives. I’ve tried to make the most of the .25 coupons, my favs being Stoneridge ice cream (when it was 2.88) and the seltzer coupons and a few others. Other than that, a big yawn…
Oh, LOL….. I want a $5 off $25 coupon, too, but my daughters are totally crazy for that game…they ask me every day if I went to Jewel, and I get free labor when it comes to checking the game pieces…also, I have never seen anyone so excited over two free doughnuts and a couple of free game pieces…plus, we did win $2!!!
I am happy Jewel is giving us this oppurtunity….. maybe they will get others doing this. it has to start somewhere…maybe we can all get behind this…
Newbie to double couponing here…if my Q says ‘Do Not Double’, will the store obey that? Or is it just wishful thinking on the part of the manufacturer?
It’s new to most of us! I believe they will, since Jewel is eating the cost of the doubled part.
