Here are some common questions about Dominick’s Just for U that keep cropping up in comments, email, Facebook… and the answers they don’t really themselves provide. :)

Q: I redeemed an offer but it still shows available online. Can I do it again?

A: No. For whatever reason, offers do not disappear off of your card after you redeem them.  However, “one-time offer” personalized deals will only come off once. Electronic coupons in the Coupon Center only come off once. So you kind of have to keep track of what you have already used.

Q: I have an offer that says “limit 2″ and then under that says “unlimited.” What the heck does that mean?

A: This means that the offer is limited to two per transaction (shopping trip), but you can do it multiple times. Come back later and do it again.

Q: Can I use paper coupons with “personalized deals?”

A: Yes. You can always use paper coupons with personalized deals, since they are just prices.

Q: Can I use paper coupons with the electronic coupons in the Coupon Center?

A: Sometimes.

  • You can use paper manufacturer coupons together with store electronic coupons. Those that are the same as in the store coupons in the paper ad are always store coupons.
  • You cannot use paper manufacturer coupons together with manufacturer electronic coupons. The register will beep and say an e-coupon has already been applied.
  • The coupons are not labeled as store or manufacturer online, so there’s no foolproof way to tell about the ones that are not the same as in the ad. MOST of them, but not all of them, are manufacturer coupons.

Q: Are coupons available to load until their expiration date?

A: No. They often disappear from the coupon center before their expiration date, so load them if you think you’re going to use them.

Q: A coupon I loaded disappeared from the Coupon Center, but it hadn’t expired. Is it still on my card?

A: Probably. Click on the “shopping list” link at the top of the Coupon Center in Just for U and it will list the e-coupon if it is still on your card.

Q: I have multiple offers that require a $10 minimum purchase. Can I redeem all of them on one $10 minimum purchase or do I need $10 minimum for each offer?

A: You only need one $10 minimum purchase for all of your offers that require it; you can redeem them all in one transaction.

Q: Just for U made me choose my closest store. Will my offers only work at that store?

A: No. They are valid at any Dominick’s location.

Q: What happens if I have a personalized price for an item that goes buy one, get one free?

A: You get two for the personalized price, which is generally lower than the jacked-up price on a BOGO sale. The first item will ring at your personalized price and the second at $0.00.

Q: What happens if I have a personalized price on an item in an instant savings deal?

A: You will get the instant savings off the personalized price. So, for example, if you have Skippy peanut butter at a personalized price of $2.02, and there is a “buy four save $4.00 instantly” deal going on, you will get them each for $1.02 when you buy four.

Q: I’m not getting offers that are advertised to everyone on my card. What’s up with that?

A: No one knows. Dominick’s customer service will promise to get back to you. To date, they have not fixed it for anyone that I’ve seen. I’d head to customer service and grab a new card, just for kicks.

Q: I have an offer that says it’s good on “selected varieties.” How can I find out what varieties are included?

A: Sometimes items are tagged in store, but it’s usually trial and error. No, I’m not kidding — they don’t make a list available, and often items that seem they should be included are not. If you buy an item and the discount doesn’t come off, head to customer service. They’ll either give you the discount, or you can return the item.

Q: How do they figure out what personalized deals to offer me?

A: These are supposed to be based on items you have bought previously and items they “think you will like.” These are often competing items to the ones that you actually buy, kind of like when you buy Jif peanut butter and a coupon for Skippy pops out of the Catalina machine. Some, however, seem to be completely random — I’ve had dog food on mine, and I have no dogs, for example.

Q: I am reading on other forums that people share personalized deals. How do they do that?

A: At Dominick’s, they can look up your card by phone number. So, what happens if you use someone else’s phone number instead of scanning your card? You get their personalized deals instead of your own. I’m making no comments here about this, but that’s how they’re doing it.

Q: I have two different electronic coupons on my card for the same item. Will they both come off if I buy one item?

A: Sometimes, but not always. If you are at a store with self-checkout you can do it there and see what comes off right after you scan the item.

Q: I often find that my Just for U offers don’t come off right at the register. Is it just me?

A: No, it’s not just U. This happens a lot. Always, always, always check your receipt before you leave the store and get a refund at customer service if items ring higher than expected. If you’re especially nervous or your store is especially suspicious, print out your “shopping list” as proof in case it becomes necessary.

Thanks for this primer – I’m also having the problem of not getting offers that are advertised to everyone. I think I’ll take your advice and just pick up a new card!

    2. anne says:

I think I might have missed this update, but I used a RR at Dom’s earlier this week, and tonight was told,”we can only take a RR if it’s for a specific item.” They said it was a new change. I thought they took them, but only one per transaction?

      • rachel says:

They do not take RR, nor do they take general “on your next order” Catalinas from other stores. While some individual stores might take them (since they can make their own store-level rules), their official coupon policy says no.

      Thank You !

One other question is Deal Match
If you have a deal match price and dominicks has a B2G2….
Do the two combine? or do you get only one promotion or the other?

      Pepsi 12 pk 5.99 B2G2
Pepsi 12 pks 3 for 10 Target Deal Match.

      Should I be able to get 12 – 12pks for $20.00 ??

      • rachel says:

You’d think so, but that has not been working for people the last couple of times there was a deal match price and a b2g2 sale. I don’t know why.

And on your second question, I don’t know, lol. If it’s limit 2 I don’t know if that refers to you can only buy two per transaction or if the price would come off the two you pay for on a BOGO sale. Never tried or seen anyone report on that one, so if you try it, let us know! :)

I would like to add that if u have a smartphone and want to save paper, you can email your list to yourself. They will go off of that.

    5. Hina says:

Two more “Just for U” questions:
      1. I have a offer that says “Limit 2″, do I need to buy both items on the same transaction or can I buy one now and one later?”

      2. To piggy-back off the question “What happens if I have a personalized price for an item that goes buy one, get one free”, I had a personalized price (for Breyers ice cream) with a limit 2. I used it during the BOGO sale, buying only two cartons, however, in hindsight…could I have really bought 4? Since I had a limit of 2 and I was getting two for free?

    6. Jen C says:

Thanks for this post. I’ve been trying to find the advertised for everyone milk and Oreo’s for
2 days and was seriously starting to think I was crazy, because I can’t find them anywhere. I might try the new card idea. Anyone know if Wal-Mart will price match the advertised for everyone items?

      • BabyCarnalla says:

Yes. If it is in the ad they will PM at Walmart. My mom did the eggs the other day no problem. And if anyone was going to have a problem, it’s my mother.

    7. Shirley says:

If my JFU pricing doesn’t specify the quantity limit, how many can I get? Last week, I had a personalized bread one-time deal but it didn’t state unlimited or how many I can purchase.

    8. Susan says:

The J4U pricing is so confusing, it reads differently on my savings list printed out from their website than it rings up (i.e., savings list shows Laughing Cow cheese at $2.99, but it rings at $4.29 minus .30 card savings, minus 1.11 J4U personalized, minus 1.00 for the e-coupon). Just yesterday I printed out this from the FAQs on the J4U page “Can I combine manufacturer/store coupons with these prices?” Their response is “Yes, you can combine a manufacturer or store coupon with your personalized deals…” which makes it seem like J4U are store coupons. Not so! I went to complain today and the c/s person, even though paged, had disappeared and I never got to talk to anyone!! I also had the misfortune of picking up the wrong variety on a price match item and having to pay full price. Dominicks doesn’t make it easy, I am going to stop shopping there.
